Walter, you seem to pop out of nowhere with that! And, yes it is! Are you getting any closer to being able to post images?

Slowly getting better, thanks Martin. Not helping is the weather, we're looking at 41-43 degrees C today.

Cheers,
Graeme.

First glance Martin, I'd say the Blohm und Voss BV-144?

What's happened to the port wing of your silhouette?

Morning mate!!!! Yes, it is the Bv144. This plane was designed as a successor to the Ju 52/3m after the war. The project started in 1940 and was reworked in winter 1940/41. This new concept was accepted by the Lufthansa. Blohm und Voss got a contract for two prototypes. Because of the war situation the design work was made mostly by french engineers in Hamburg. The construction of the the two aircraft (some reports say one!) was made in France by the Sociéte Louis Breguet in Anglet at Bayonne.

The BV 144 was an all-metal, high-wing monoplane, powered by two BMW 801-801A radial engines. A unique feature of the BV 144 was the wing, which was designed to have variable incience. An electro-mechanical device rotated the wing by its main spar, up to 9°. The BV 144 had a crew of three and was planned to be capable of carrying 18 to 23 passengers.

The first machine was ready in 1944. It got french registration and was transported by road to Toulouse. Because of the war situation all testing was cancelled and both prototypes were scrapped.

The original line drawing showed exposed spars etc and had to be overdrawn.

You have control....

Hello

Sorry for answering so late RIDGE RUNNER.

You are right ,there is some similarities between SIAT 222 /SIPA S-251 Antilope. This was the early sixties " mode " for all-metal low wing four seater.BUT in fact the SIAT 222 is an original design.

About the SIPA , it was born in Italy , it was an aircraft designed (and
some parts already built ) by PROCAER .(wo built the FRATI's Picchio )

All was sold to SIPA .

Cheers

Richard

Forgive me I am somewhat confused. You say the silhouette posted at Post # 4398 is the SIAT 222 yet every photograph I have seen of the SIAT 222 shows a "squarish" Vertical Fin and rudder yet the silhoutte shows a swept vertical fin and rudder which conforms to the SIPA S-251 Antilope. The SIAT-222 was the precurser of the SIAT-223 Flamingo. The SIAT 223 certainly does not have a swept fin and rudder.

Thanks mate!

SIAT vs SIPA.

Some images that may help distinguish between the aircraft.
Line drawings from Janes's...(SIAT above the SIPA)...

The Siebel Si 222 was a 1956 project with a 90 hp Continental.

The SIAT 222 with 180 hp Lycoming flew in 1961 and was destroyed the same year ,killing its pilot Falderbaum

The SIAT 223 is another story .

Cheers

Siat 222

Thanks Noyade and Bradenav. A picture is better than a thousand words. Although the aircraft in the photograph appears to have a fixed undercarriage whereas the silhouette shows a retractable undercarriage. Was the silhouette the possible development?
