Hello

My first answer here :

VOISIN ASTRA TRIPLANE (Renault 75hp)
It was fully armoured (wheels included ! )

It was designed by Gabriel Voisin and built by Astra .

Well, I can safely say I haven't a clue on this one. The undercarriage layout is I am sure pretty unique with 4 evenly spaced mains, and 2 tailwheels (the fact that it even has tailwheels is unusual)...not that that has helped me! I'm guessing its got a single engine either in that pod above the pilot (must be a pretty small prop if so) or at the nose??

I think the "pod" is the fuel tank? Like Skytrain10, I have no idea!!!!!

As per the above; completely flummoxed.

Can't find any images or details of Hans Grade's Triplane that he flew at Magdeburg in 1908, so could it be that?

As I'm off home now, in the extremely unlikely event of this being correct, then "Open House"!

I believe Bradenav has it...but the only picture I have found does not feature the pod above the cockpit.

A little confused as when I submitted my message at 1841 there were no other responses, and yet I now look and find that Bradenav's 2 responses are timed before mine.

We'll leave it to Noyade to confirm...in the meantime welcome to the forum Bradenav.

VOISIN ASTRA TRIPLANE
Nicely done Bradenav! I have it as the Societe Astra Triplane of 1911 that was licensed to utilise the Wright's wing warping system. The frame work was steel tubing and the body enclosed with metal sheeting. The large six extra-heavy rubber-tired disc wheels "minimised landing shocks." It took to the air piloted by Marcel Goffin and despite its excessive weight, turned in a "noteworthy performance." Skytrain10, I'm just assuming that the pod is a fuel tank? And from memory and experience, probationary members posts don't appear until they've been approved?

Control is yours Bradenav. Welcome!

Could that be the FSS-100 Tourist designed by Flugsportgruppe Schönhagen in the GDR?

You are right ,Tu 144 .

The FSS-100Tourist looks like but was not really a copy of the french "Piel
Emeraude"
It was designed by Johannes Höntsch at the Flugsportschule Shönhagen ,DDR,around a Walter-Mikron engine .
He used only a leaflet as basis for his design .
Built from 1958 to 1962..First flight on yhe 9 oct.1962.Total 19 flying hours.
Now in Museum .

Okay. A hint then: The plane in question did not leave the drawing board. There are design drawings of it that feature either turboprop or jet engines.

Is that a "typo" for turbofan, I can't picture props on those underwing pods, that would need very stalky landing gear!

How about the Boeing 727-475 project, AKA the "720 Junior" but abandoned in favour of the tri-jet layout?

Unlikely, but if correct "open House" as I'm off-line 'til Monday

In those days it seems we have some "OSTALGIA" :It's a GDR design .
It's the 154 project for 47 to 78 passengers,or V.E B 154 II,second design,abandoned in 1959.

Cheers

Richard

SincoTC: The turboprop variant would have used a completely reworked wing. It is no Boeing. Ridge Runner: It is not Russian either, but let´s call it slightly lukewarm.

Bradenav, sorry for not responding in the previous post; seems we were both typing at the same time. Indeed, it is the Flugzeugwerk Dresden 154 design. Let me add the three-view for the turboprop variant for completeness:

Your controls.
