Got it in one. The Bernard 191 “Oiseau Canari” was a flying fuel tank, carrying more than 3,000 litres of fuel in nine tanks it was designed for distance flights. In 1929 Assollant, Lotti and Lefèvre became the first French pilots to cross the North Atlantic from west to east flying a “Oiseau Canari”. Shortly after take-off the pilots discovered a stowaway on board: journalist Arthur Schreiber (the blighters get everywhere). Due to his extra weight the aircraft almost ran out of fuel, but managed to land near Santander in northern Spain after a 29h 22m flight.

You have control one11.

Its a Potez 53, 1933 Racer, in the background at the Musee de l'Air, Le Bourget.

Noyade - Yes - Nord Noreclair, 1946, intended for carrier operations but one of the many French prototypes that never got any further......You have control.

PS Looks like a French Junkers Ju.188 behind

That will be the Richard Pearse monoplane of 1902-03 that makes the Wrights look like johnny-come-lately's, yes?

Thanks Graeme, wow, a rare opportunity to post for me, so it was worth staying up till 2 am, lol.

Leaping forward several decades I have no idea if this is easy or not, only that I liked it from the first time it appeared in the pages of 'Flight'

Neither of those RR, but now you mention it it does have an air of Mya about it, almost like a precursor to the M-17 and Mya 55, but no, its not Russian or Israeli.

several decades
So possibly a design of the late 30's or 40's maybe?! The fixed undercarriage looks a little odd. Did it fly?

appeared in the pages of 'Flight'
Another clue? When did Flight become Flight International? Hmmm.

Later than that Graeme, and maybe I should have said 'International' as well, I'm not that bloody old

It never made it to the flying stage. Or possibly even to the building stage

How long is it normal to wait until clues can be given?

Okay, okay, you know what I meant.

Alright then. How about American? Maybe one of Schapel's unorthodox twin-boom pusher designs of the early 80's? Can't find an illustration, but found mention of the Schapel S-4 Super Swat twin boom pusher design for agricultural work powered by a PT6A turboprop.

The cockpit reminds me of the DH-108.

You got it Graeme! the Super Swat it is! Despite the name this was Schapels first major project in 1979, but the composite, PT6 powerred ag plane was too expensive for the market full of Ag Cats and the like, there was a ground attack derivative called the Swat 1, which was claimed to cost 3% of the cost of an AH-64 (which I find very dubious) and also a very nice short span, long nosed, big engined racer with the same planform called Finesse.

I was going to give the clues that it has links to the Land Speed Record (Schapel made the Spirit of America) and the Canadair Challenger (Schapel was chief design engineer on the project when it was still the Learstar 600)

Here's a link to a slightly later article after the Super Swat had already been dumped (which disappointed me at the time - it and the Fieldmaster were the only ag types that ever interested me)

Are you kidding me? Well I'll be damned! I kinda plucked that from my arse! There's only a brief mention of it in an Airdata file section of Air International from the 80's. If you rejected the American idea my next step was to start searching for a French design.

Well I'm still up and I found this before I went to work today...
