Hmmm, I’ve said it before but from my experience the 10-12 millennials I have direct contact with are amongst the most enthusiastic supporters of industrial action. At this point they tend to be the ones getting thoroughly flogged so are appreciative of the time off. I don’t dispute that some people are feeling that way but I don’t see it and I am in touch with a fair sample size.

Edit. What I am hearing is people applying and leaving for overseas gigs on a pretty regular basis. The prospect of back pay was probably motivating people to vote yes, but the company has whipped that away…

Yeah no boomers have ever been guilty of that before.

Selfish and short sighted.

What a bunch of ******** you are.

Not the Network pilots, all you other dickheads.

There's more unity in a primary school playground in a game of red rover.

As much as I like playing the generational blame game, now is not the time.

Did the pilot group meet with the CEO yesterday?

Really seems like they're just trying to weather the PIA storm until such time as IB is declared.

Exactly the tactic! I believe the big wigs at ‘some big mining company’ were told that the plan was to hold out until the commission could get involved to solve it. Sounds like IR know the outcome already?…or would that be illegal?

To suggest that to a room full of angry pilots is just plain stupid though.

From AIPA

The Network EA is currently before the Fair Work Commission (FWC) and we expect the IBD application to be listed for hearing on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 March 2024 although the Company has made a request for an expedited hearing on Friday 8 March or the week of 11 March. We will provide further updates once the hearing dates have been confirmed. One point of clarification is that AIPA did NOT support or endorse the third deal to be voted on by NAA pilots. With things moving very quickly in the lead up to Christmas, the AIPA CoM was unable to consider the revised deal. Thus, AIPA indicated that we do not wish to delay a vote and that the NAA pilots should vote on the proposed EA. Of interest was the inclusion in that last deal of a reduced rate of pay for low time First Officers - a de facto B scale for new, low time F/Os (less than 1500 hours at joining).

We are struggling to recruit any FOs so we will reduce their pay further to encourage more applicants. In the same vain as the beatings will continue until morale improves.

Following this weeks utter debacle with the meeting, QF yet again crying "we can't afford any further EBA costs" & the CEO hiding behind the local management, it looks like it's all over. More pointless strikes that only penalise the very people who are seeking a fair contract. Well played Qantas, looks like you will get what you want, congrats to you & the shareholders. The only catch being you may have created a bitter, revolving door airline with astronomical training costs, massively decreasing average experience levels & a toxic culture, where pilots will never trust management again & everyone else in the company hate the pilots for causing so much trouble! Give yourself a pat on the back QF/Network managers, you may have created Australian ****tiest little airline. Those of you in SH, it's like looking into your future!

You obviously have comprehension problems. There is nothing in the quote from AIPA critical or approving of the proposed pay scale for low time FOs.

Industrial action at Qantas subsidiary to be extended

Extended by another 4 days. 100% support to the guys and gals at Network, but how long is this sustainable? I can’t help think that other PIA measures such as not accepting aircraft with MELs, no extensions or working on days off is more sustainable in the longer term and harder for the company to have contingencies to counter.

Don’t need to plan too long term as FWC may accept the IB application in early March which will end all PIA. May as well make QF hurt while you can.

Also, it’s nicely timed to coincide with the QF half year results, on Thursday, so the media and fund managers will have plenty of questions for Vanessa while she’s trying to talk-up the company’s performance.

One could argue in 2019 with a mass exodus from Cathay and the threat to create a new subsidiary to outsource project sunrise is vastly different to 2024’s genuine pilot shortage hiring minimum hour pilots and unable to retain crew long term.

If we introduced a B scale every time there was a downturn in the economy, a threat by the company, a glut of pilots, a war etc etc we would be on food stamps. There is never a valid excuse for a union to support or a pilot body to vote up a b scale EVER!

Interestingly, AIPA didn’t support a vote for the last LH EA (despite the gun to pilot’s heads), but AFAP did endorse the last Network offer with it’s B-scale.

Kinda blows up your criticism of AIPA.

was a lot of enthusiasm for B scale Mk2 in the turbo operation from AFAP

I always love the older pilots blaming the younger pilots for taking crap contracts but no mention of the fact that they allowed the crap contracts in the first place.
