Yes TFH2, you’re quite right that Alliance can employ whomever they want. It’s their right. But QF have asked Alliance to operate these Jets for them. As a condition of the deal they require at least some (not all) of their stood down pilots to be given those jobs. If Alliance said no, that they want 100% control over hiring, QF could just as easily say “righto, we’ll find another lease provider then who’ll meet our requirements.” Therefore Alliance misses out on that opportunity altogether which harms their pilots too.

That’s how business negotiations work. Qantas has arranged multiple leaves of absence for their pilots for several years at a time over the last decades for many reasons. These have been down with countless airlines both in Australia and Overseas. This isn’t a new or uncommon thing at all.
You are right QF could have just walked away but chose not to because Alliance are a good airline with a sterling reputation. QF would not have walked away though even if Alliance said no because it’s just business to them. They needed this flying done on a smaller jet and Alliance was the best option.

The hiring of QF long haul pilots was merely an added bonus, not so sure why many got upset when this was pointed out. Some were acting like they could not believe a QF pilot might not be first choice. I’m pretty sure most jet pilots in Australia regardless of the airline are all of a pretty similar standard.

However if you still feel I hate QF and their pilots so be it, really no skin of my nose.

Judging by your performance though Tin Foil it would be fair to say Alliance has the same ratio of d!ckheads as the “sky god” airline. Back to that 4 hour flight...
So another perpetually offended child because not everyone agrees with what you have to say therefor start the name calling. Woke much!

This is a stroke of strategic genius:

1. Further evidence to the ACCC that you should be allowed to increase your stake
2. Get the jump on your competitor as they scramble to regain their footing
3. Offer an engagement opportunity to international pilots
4. Have same pilots demonstrate what ARE acceptable terms and conditions
5. Have AIPA international pilots undercut domestic pilots

Does seem to be particularly scabby if Intl pilots effectively undercut domestic QF pilots (both 73 and 71) after years of being "on top". I'd expect 3rd parties to do it, but not the colleagues of 737 and 717 drivers who are still stood down due to a lack of flying..

That is not happening. The contract with Alliance does not go ahead until all short haul (737) crew are stood back up every month.

I would have thought that QF giving away any flying to a 3rd party when they have stood down pilots and the aircraft to do the job sitting idle would have been more a subject of angst than whether those pilots get a slim chance to fly for that 3rd party. It's QF f*cking you over, not QQ. If QF think the e-jet is such a wonderful fit, and wanted to really look after it's underemployed workforce, they would have dry-leased the aircraft. They just found another way to screw over their employees.

I have to agree with you there.

You mean exactly like the recent and rapid expansion of the Network A320 operation in Perth? That’s for a whole other thread, but QF have plenty of recent form when it comes to growing a subsidiary while another (more expensive) entity is mostly stood down.

They’ll do it while they can - the party will be over soon, and they’ll be back to having to do it the old fashioned way of scaring their crews into accepting lesser conditions.

CV has been great for their plans, but it will be short lived.

This isn't even growing another subsidiary (not withstanding their 20% stake), this is QF paying someone else to do what was main line flying, not even subsidiary flying. There is nothing in this for anyone from the QF group, unless they (possibly, maybe, we'll see) throw a couple of scraps your way.
How good is Alliance.

This thread has gone pretty quiet,

I’d like to hear moar about the QF LH crews opportunity to scab on the SH crew to fly a 50t jet. The same jet and operation they would have turned their nose up at circa 2019. After all, it weighs less than your fuel burn PER-LHR. But times change and so do principles right?

Never change guys. I love the mental gymnastics and the hyposcrisy.

I too would like to hear moar about the hyposcrisy. Have any of these people actually applied yet, or should we just work ourselves into a lather of righteous indignation in expectation that they might?

I'd like to think that people who can operate an aircraft can spell more, as opposed to 'moar'.

I'd be more interested to know if anyone who's thrown their hat in has actually heard anything back, and if so, if they are type rated or not.
