Jetstar Aus/NZ Positions
All of us here hope that this will be what make Aussie carriers up their conditions. Who knows though eh.

Ohh FFS, no one is hoping bad will to anyone going to the US. Get over yourself.
All the general consensus seems to be from former expats, is that it can be over before you know it, so be careful. Anyone who thinks you have a forever job is kidding themselves. You’re still only on a visa.

“Here” for me is the US. Our hope is that if there’s enough of us leaving, former colleagues are able to improve the conditions in Australia.
Anyone who goes to the USA or anywhere overseas hopefully will love every minute of it. I went overseas and had a great time, made good money and gained great experience. I don’t think anyone would wish anyone bad luck, what I do get sick of, is people constantly moaning about terms and conditions in OZ compared to the bigger salaries in the USA. Mu answer is always the same ‘we’ll go then’, the more who go the better chance of improvement of conditions in OZ.
If you’re of a mature age and don’t have 25+ years to go, Jetstar may work for you.
Over a career, they’re chalk and cheese.
Pretty sure that is still the case, they pay flights, accomodation and meal allowances but I don’t think the pay starts until you start the induction with Jetstar which is after you are type rated,

The difference in base salary is not that big. Where the difference really kicks in is the over time. QF it kicks in around 54. At JQ it's 75 hours. Significant overtime is also become rarer at JQ these days due to the significant change in the flying. I don't have the figures in front of me but a FO at QF doing 75 hours a month is probably $200k v JQ $150k.
The only way to make money at JQ is day off payments and smart use of sick leave.
Consider that you will also pax in economy everywhere and if you are lucky enough to be upgraded to business on QF you will be treated like the dog you are. Paxing to Bali on the 321 Neo is a new kind of hell I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
No food (the food you do get doing Bali etc you will not want to feed it to your dog) and the airline has no reasources or operational support. You are the last line of defence for everyone else's job and you will be blaimed if you don't catch their mistakes.
You will be screwed over at every possible opportunity.
The only thing that I think JQ has done very well At is the training department. Top notch. Much better than QF. (Don't tell QF peeps that, they won't like to hear that.)
If you can get into QF, don't even consider JQ.

Just for some clarity from what Clearice has stated.
- There are three levels of FO on the 320, 125k, 136k (after 4 years) and 147k (after 5 years), all base salary,
- FO's even on the old contract can make 200k plus easily is you want to work for it (and you will work hard),
- International food you would never touch with a 10 foot pole and the company is getting their arse handed to them currently with FTG and OSCARs relating to the horrible state of food,
- If you pax in the NEO and you're not in extra leg room, go FTG!
You will be screwed over every chance they get especially the new recruits! crewing are the people who are meant to support you are driven by their own KPIs and they will throw you under the bus, with hold information from you and delay submission of flight plans just so when your sign on time ticks over you will forced to do the work out of your own time - ALL TO KEEP A FEW DOLLARS IN THEIR POCKETS.. pathetic.
Mangers are so far removed from the day to day life of jetstar that they useless.. except for a couple.
I cannot stress enough - Do not start with this company if you want to progress into QF, do not start with Jetstart if you want to do more with your career, do not start with jetstar unless you have exhausted everywhere else..

Just for clarity, Jetstar monthly rosters - so 75 hours comes down to 69 / 28 days when you compare with QF 737 mainline. The latest base pay not far behind QF when you factor in highline. Definitely still behind, though.
MUCH quicker command. Easier aircraft to fly long days in. It’s not as clear cut as it might first appear. Agree with a previous poster, current JQ training department is streets ahead and far more progressive than QF
