300 Qantas pilots to get the chop ???
Hempy, MC and Tima9x have all said it.
I posted here because employees found out speaking against Dear Leader can be summarily dismissed. The politicians and journos I spoke about it to simply said they'd heard whispers but nothing on the record. If no one speaks out then it seems no one cares. I can't fight Qf's advertising budget but if everyone could speak out then more would have an understanding of the disaster.
The interesting bit for me is that as a business reader for decades, QF seems to be Australia's ENRON, and I saw it from the inside.
'The Company' gave me everything in life. What every single one of the people I joined with and served under, did, was to absolutely 150% give their all for the greater good.
Which makes the waste, wanton destruction and total incompetence so much more hurtful.
I'm not angry, I'm not anymore affected by whatever happens to QF, but I am deeply saddened by what has been done to it by people who have no idea AT ALL about what their role as supposed 'custodians' of a solid gold brand are meant to be and what they should have valued.
I think most QF staff would feel like a beautiful child or girlfriend/boyfriend has been sexually abused and thrown away with the trash.

SB:
I did think about the wording and thought behind the sentence you (and I have no doubt others) find so offensive, but after considerable thought I let it through, because I actually do believe that is how most feel. It is certainly how I feel. We didn't get a job when we joined Qantas, we were all given a dream that we treasured above everything. It's a tragedy of Shakespearian proportions that it was so abused without so much as a by your leave from the perpetrators.

I would like nothing more than for people to understand how much employees would give, and have given, to make QF 'the best' - for that's what it always was and so easily could be again - albeit a shadow of its former self.
I'm not out to argue with anyone (except with Steve Price once) but I would ask that people see an unmitigated managerial screw up on every conceivable level for what it is and not watch the evening news and say 'bloody Unions are wrecking the country'.
And I say that as the most right wing guy I know. But I value and treat as friends the people who make my life work. My employees live better than I.

Most QF staff would not feel like that. I think you'll see it was a dumb post in the near future.
No. Don't think I will. My attitude hasn't changed in 5-6 years so I can't see it changing overnight.
The worst thing is, they've f**ked it through negligence and incompetence. They didn't even TRY to do the right thing by it.

youre right prospector. theres more and more about society that i struggle with as i get older. suggesting employee angst about their employers competence could ever be anywhere near the same level as the utter destruction caused by sex abuse is just another one.
oh well

I really did not want to comment on this, but speaking as both a former abuse victim and a current QF employee may I observe that there are some broad parallels: The feeling of hopelessness and the inability to get the adults to intervene.
Oh yeah...the rage too.

I would think that if V-Jet works there and would like to draw an analogy he has the right to do so.
(Friggin' PC garbage at work trying to tell him what he is allowed to think & say, if you don't like it, block him or go to another thread)

Nunc est bibendum
Easy Jack. If it's OK for V-Jet to think and say what he feels then it's also OK for others to tell him his analogy is cutting a fine line to what they think and feel is right.
I wouldn't have used that analogy whilst acknowledging- as Australopicus has- that the feelings may be very similar.
Anyway, back to the discussion.

ABC, yep, as usual these threads meander off into the usual rants, theories. I guess it is a rumour network, I just wish we could just post the rumours/facts & leave out the usual tirades.
There is virtually no point whinging on this forum, if you are that pissed off, go see someone who can actually effect change. Do something about it or get on living. If we lose our jobs, so be it, we go look for another one. There are people in this world far worse off than us.
Oh, hang on, now I'm running off topic & whinging, d'oh.

I'm expressing my opinion that PC is out of control in this country

Stop brown nosing Jack and go and look for a job, Keg has thoroughly enjoyed taking a dump on the Jetstar pilots over the years - "sh*t money" "sh*t money" you are all on.
The iconic Qantas pilots are the true 50% men, work 50% of the hours for 50% more pay.
BA 747 pilot clear $160K QF Chappies clear $ 240K
The base rates for the QF WB fleets are circa $300K over 50% more than the legacy carrier pay at US carriers , look here:
Home | AirlinePilotCentral.com
The iconic A380 Pilots at QF were "averaging" $415K for Capts three years back.
The iconic ones on the A380 have also only been averaging just over 400 hours a year since the introduction of type 50% of the flight hours of their US counterparts.
The wage bill for the iconic Long Haul pilots at Qantas could easily be trimmed by $200million a year and they would still be paid more than any of the US passenger airlines.
