I humbly stand corrected.
Wonder why I wasn't autocorrected?

And also parallels between jetstar and what happened to GO.
Which should be a worry to QF pilots, GO was BA's Jetstar. Considered to be a parasite on mainline yields it was sold to a VC firm who later sold it on to easyjet. Easyjet now dominates BA in the European short-haul market, BA short-haul is mere shadow of its' former self at LGW (they will shortly push BA out of the North Terminal). BA Regional is extinct and BA SH at Heathrow is under massive pressure to yield yet more cost-savings to stem the orange tide under a vague threat of the parent group (IAG) bringing Vueling in to fly the routes in BA branded aircraft.

Be careful what you wish for.

Business is where the money is so non-financial numerical domination is not the issue. JB has clearly wiped the floor proving that it is yields that are key with our revolting Kim Jong Un wannabe (at least someone does!).

Long Haul is generally not the natural realm of LCC's- certainly not the profitable section.

I don't think any QF person has an issue with a LCC arm, but the pursuit of the goal beyond all recognition of reality is absolutely insane.

Don't feel too bad, the spelling they were after is Führer, with or without the umlaut.

You won't be autocorrected for the same reason your pet hate - loose - isn't autocorrected. It's not a spelling mistake. Perhaps a grammar checker might correct it?

Ah yes of course

"Remuneration= payment
Renumeration = re-counting (to count again)"

I feel like a looser

I'm sure the Virgin guys would welcome Qantas pilots with open arms to fly their A330s out of seniority.

You'd be lucky to get a shot on a Tiger A320 (self sponsored TR of course ).

As for Darwin ops sleeping north and south BOC, geez you guys speak some dribble. The only flight that was a little on the edge was Narita, but they were six day trips so you had plenty of time to sleep it off.

I 'spose Qantas guys don't take controlled rest at all?

"Just imagine a 18 year service QF FO sitting next to a captain in a red tailed aircraft with less than 10 years service."

Been done before, S%$# happens in aviation.

"That's why it won't happen. You can't have two people operating an aircraft that don't talk to each other."

Yes you can, been done before many many times.

I don’t have a dog in this hunt - zero interest in working for an old-fashioned legacy carrier.

But QF pilots need to smell the coffee. QF don’t care about your accident free past, they just want bodies in cockpits at rates that are competitive with the rest of the market you are competing within.

"Who in their right mind pushes for LESS renumeration for their profession?"

Anybody interested is selling their labour should. Getting a lower price is better than sitting at home getting nothing.

There you have it, writ large, the race the bottom personified.

Ultergra, you just managed to lower yourself to balls standard. The other Virgin guys and myself thank you for your kind words. He doesn't represent any of us. Muppet.

Actually, V-Jet, in Das Vaterland if you are typing "Führer" and your keyboard does not have the Umlaut character you indeed type "Fuehrer".

So Sani-Com was correct.

Prost!

Iron Bar,

If you are not selling you labour then what exactly are you doing?

Who says that being competitive is a "race to the bottom". One of those absurd phrases that catches on in mindless bar chatter and becomes cool to quote.

You just did, when you said "getting a lower price is better than sitting at home doing nothing"

That is a false dichotomy. The choice is not binary-there are other options. The way you phrased it though is exactly the way many people think. There are people actually paying to fly as F/O in some operations.

My underlining.

Well said AnQrKa It's called "price discovery" and "the market." My heart is sincerely with QF employees, however... we may not like it, and it might not be "fair," but if your skill set will only bring you a certain remuneration when allowed to compete then so be it. Be pragmatic and realistic, it will bring peace to you all.

Setting up protected rent-seeking workshops like Australia is so good at is what stifles innovation and competition and... ultimately hurts the workers that have gotten used to the sweet conditions that are now disappearing. The Age of Entitlement is over in more ways than one.

Here, Here!

As Gina so rightly pointed out recently. African mine workers are on the equivalent of A$2 per day. And stop drinking and smoking you lazy Australians.

That’s what Ansett pilots thought too. And United, Northwest, Continental, Air Canada . . . . Guess what, they signed the deal . . . . or the door hit them on the ass.

Lets hypothetically pretend that QF are after a reset, an event, an opening, an opportunity. They will be formulating their chapter 11 and when they do, you will be welcomed back with a contract sitting on the table. Your old conditions, minus 30% or more. The end, nothing more, nothing less. The corridor is full of EK/JQ/KE etc pilots ready to sign.

Exactly what other option do you think you will employ?

There you go, fellas. The age of entitlement is over.

What is likely over is the following, QF long haul pilots

  • Having 25 plus sickies per year
  • Taking a Second Officer on at least ten or so routes to Asia when everyone else just has two pilots
  • Being paid 50 % more than your counterparts at BA, and the large US passenger carriers United , Delta , American & Air Canada
  • Having A380 captains and FOs who have been on the fleet for over six years and averaged less than 400 hours per year
  • Supported A330 pilots who were averaging 300 hours per year 2007 thru 2011
  • Expecting the profit making parts of QF group to keep supporting loss making L
  • Expecting the Australian Taxpayer to subsidize your company and lifestyle
  • Picking up 50 to 100% more on overnight allowances in comparison with your competitors. ie: $300 Aussie per night in Japan,
Asking to much even if you are the most "iconic" airline the world, and your careers have been ever so distinguished.

Effective LH fleet now of about 35 Aircraft , this would be taking you back to fleet size of what 1990 ?
