Would age affect my application?
Your age itself, no (you meet the minimum requirement and it's illegal to discriminate on the basis of age). However, you may also get what I got when I first applied for ATC, straight out of uni (so a couple of years older than you are now): the feedback after my interview was basically to go away and grow up a little, then come back in a few years.
So I went away and worked in the 'real world' for a bit, took on a job that allowed me to demonstrate responsibility, and three years later was successful.

Having said that, that was my experience, yours may differ. Give it a go, and try not to get too disheartened if it ends in tears the first time.

Oh wow okay. I’ve had three jobs (one in a supervisor position) - would that help with demonstration of responsibility?

Have there been many successful 18 year olds or not so much?

Yep there’s a few I can think of that started at 18/19/20 and had no issues.

Not a terrible place to be at age 24 on ATC 6 pay level while mates have just started looking for graduate positions with a huge HECS debt.

Just for clarification, there's no training done in Sydney is there? Meaning you'd have to relocate to Melbourne for a year or so?

corza 11th Jul 2021 12:05

Did anyone in the PPRuNe world apply for the latest round of ATC Trainee before it closed?

goody777 12th Jul 2021 15:24

Training is done in Melbourne for a bit over a year

Correct and they don't pay any relocation or assistance with rentals etc. In addition, very, very few trainees get assigned back to Sydney. The majority of trainees will be allocated Brisbane or Melbourne Centre. Good luck.

I sure did, I've done the OPQ just waiting now. :) Keeping my expectations in check, but pretty excited for a new challenge!

Johno3476 19th Jul 2021 07:22

Just curious if any of the other guys doing online testing atm received any information for the 'Third Suite' of testing that was due to come out today (19/07/21)?

goody777 19th Jul 2021 10:28

Email today about the third stage of testing. Does anyone know if this is a recent addition to the procedure?
I haven't seen anything in this forum about something after the aptitude and OPQ tests and before a phone interview.

Will be interesting to see what it entails when they release the info in a few days.

Yeah didnt get any info, just that they'd they'd get back soon. Hopefully doesn't mean that we're out.

corza 28th Jul 2021 05:48

Has anyone heard anything back yet?

goody777 28th Jul 2021 12:59

Nothing yet. Email last week said something mid this week. Hopefully something tomorrow or Friday. It seems from what I can read on this forum that the third stage of testing may be a new addition so they might be still sorting out some stuff.

goody777 18th Aug 2021 01:18

Third stage of testing done, now the waiting game.

Any opinions from those that completed it? Personally I found the radar sim tests to be the most challenging, especially the ones with multitasking the maths equations.

Fingers crossed for good news.

I can’t say I’m all that confident with those tests! The multitasking maths/radar ones were a bit much, after a few rounds I started ignoring the maths questions because they were too distracting.

Good luck! Hopefully it won’t be a massive wait before we hear something.

WakeTurb83 18th Aug 2021 15:29

Same here. I felt my chances were reasonably ok-ish until the radar screen with maths. Lets see how it plays out. Good luck everyone!

Online Interview

Have only just stumbled across this thread. I applied for the most recent intake and was advised by email on Wednesday (August 18) that I had passed the tests and can now complete an Online Interview.
Just responses to pre-recorded audio, anyone else at this stage? I'm expecting they might not be inviting people to Melbourne this time round unless offered a position? I was invited to attend an interview in Melbourne in March last year but it was cancelled due to Covid, unsure how essential it would be to invite applicants to Vic to determine they're suited.

goody777 24th Aug 2021 07:06

Also received the video interview email, fingers crossed to hear some good news in a few days time. It seems they might be doing the entire recruitment process online now due to COVID, although I'd much prefer to attend an in-person interview compared to recording answers on a computer.

Jai Kishin Singh 26th Aug 2021 02:01

Did you do those 3 test on August 15th as well?

Yeah I completed all 3 suites of testing prior

goody777 29th Aug 2021 09:32

Squigels, or any else finished video interview stage, have you heard anything from ASA yet?

Nothing yet, I've read that they usually have about 50-100 people that would have normally attended a day at the assessment centre in a given intake. I'm expecting that at least 50-100 people would have been invited to do online interviews and it may take quite some days, if not a few weeks, to get through them all. Fingers crossed we hear back with a verdict in the coming days but wouldn't hold my breathe.

corza 29th Aug 2021 11:57

I have completed the video interviews and just hanging out. The further I get into the process the more excited I get, and to say I'm excited is an understatement. I am quite patient and don't mind waiting though being already employed in Aviation.

Exactly how I feel, the further we go into the process the more optimistic I become, need to remind myself every now and again that the chances are always against me until I (hopefully) get an offer.
Hopefully the COVID situation hasn't had too harsh of an impact upon the recruitment team down in Melbourne and we can hear back from them soon.

Maggie Island 30th Aug 2021 13:01

Not to get anyone’s hopes up but there are well over 100 ATCs taking up offers of early retirement over the next year or so. Just about all of these positions will have to be filled again within the next couple years.

Squigels 2nd Sep 2021 08:20

Assuming nobody else has heard anything yet?

Hi all! I've been following this thread for a few years now and applied in this recruitment campaign. Got an email this afternoon to say I have made it through to the online video interviews. I presume given some of you have already completed this, that they are batching the interviews in groups. Fingers crossed for us all!

goody777 3rd Sep 2021 11:32

Best of luck with the video interview. It's pretty similar to really any interview on behavioural experiences in the workplace so don't stress too much about the specifics of the role. With that batching interviews into groups, it might mean we don't hear a final result for quite some time then

EKalpha 4th Sep 2021 07:26

Thank you! That's relieving to hear. I think that might be the case with the interviews - Hopefully that works in our favour!

When I first applied in November 2018 I didn't receive a call after the testing until March 2019. I saw on some other forums that people were offered positions in that period so hopefully we won't have to wait for too many batches before we at least have a verdict of successful or not.

Squowedri 6th Sep 2021 04:36

I created an account just so I could let you guys know that I just received an email today from air services that I didn't make it to the online interviews after completing the latest aptitude tests. So for everyone else out there who is still waiting for a reply you might still be in it to win it!

It's been quite the ride following this thread.

Good luck everyone!

EKalpha 7th Sep 2021 05:59

Oh no! I have a couple of friends that got that email yesterday too..

Just did my video interview then - I think it went well, but will see what happens! I wonder if they are considering doing the assessment centre still in BNE - Just re-read the application and it does say we could still expect an assessment day after the video interview

mikewil 18th Sep 2021 06:29

Does anyone know is the 2 attempts rule still applies to the ATC trainee applications?

They used to state on the website that you are only permitted to apply twice before being barred forever but I cannot find mention of this anywhere now.

When I checked the website the other day it still stipulated you can only apply twice.

Squigels 20th Sep 2021 06:00

Was fortunate enough to receive an email today inviting me to the assessment centre early next week, just a virtual "tour" with some different tests/activities to complete.
Anybody else invited at this stage? It will be exciting to finally communicate with Air Services directly and meet some of the others passionate about pursuing this career.

carrotsticks 20th Sep 2021 06:25

Hi all, I also got the assessment centre invite today. Does anybody know if this is the first time they're doing virtual assessment centres?

le Pingouin 20th Sep 2021 06:45

mikewil, as Squigels says it's still limited to twice:

"You can only apply for this position twice, so if your first application is unsuccessful you can only apply one more time. Once your application is submitted it will be counted as one attempt."
