Are the trainees paid as of start of school or once on location?
Is this unionized btw? |
You get paid from start of course - fortnightly in arrears. The large majority of us are union members.

Has anyone that performed their full day assessment from March of this year onwards received notification as to whether they have been successful or not?
We are coming up on 3 months since I had my assessment and still nothing. I phoned ASA and they told me that they had some internal issues to work out which has caused the delay but, that I would find out in two weeks. That was 3 weeks ago... Just curious if I'm the only one or if we are all playing the waiting game... |
I had my assessment late march and references contacted 2 weeks ago. Its all a waiting game now!

relocation expenses
Does ASA pay or help at least with relocation expenses to Melbourne or Brisbane for the Ab initio course?
|
Conditions of employment | Airservices
Transfer assistance – candidates from other than Melbourne Airservices will provide limited assistance to interstate applicants while in Melbourne attending the Academy based training. Assistance will generally be limited to a maximum of seven days short term accommodation assistance (room only) and airfare to Melbourne. Further assistance may be considered by Airservices, however, this will be limited to removal of personal items that are considered essential for day to day living in Melbourne. Airservices will not meet the cost of relocating furnishings or vehicles to Melbourne. |
The accommodation in Melbourne is at the Quest Flemington. We managed to find a rental the first day we started looking. Other than that AsA will pay either airfares for you and your dependents, or fuel for you to drive.
|
In general, are people renting furnished places whilst in melbourne for training or just paying for the removalists out of their pocket?
|
Has anyone seen the new ad for the job on the Airservices website.
"Be the envy of your friends". I kid you not. |
I just tried to have a look at it steve but the website doesnt appear to be working for me?
In other news, this waiting is doing my head in! |
Going by the number of people posting on here that have had their refs contacted recently, they're probably trying to work out where they're going to put you all :ok:
|
Lets hope so! :)
The website started working and I saw the envy of your friends line, thats a good one haha. |
Just finished my assessment in Melbourne today, what a long day. Nothing do do but keep my fingers crossed.
I'm going to chat to my referees tomorrow telling them that they maybe contacted in the next 6 weeks. Does anyone know how long these phone reference checks calls go for, and what general kind of questions to expect? I want to let my referees know what to expect, as a courtesy, since for once they will not be asked technical questions about my career in finance per se. |
In other news, this waiting is doing my head in! I'm gonna give Jenni a call tomorrow to get the latest e.t.a. just to torture myself a bit more... |
Please report back with what she says, I was going to give her a call myself in the next couple of days however Im not sure where I put her phone number. (Any chance you can p.m me it?)
|

Torture
Good luck guys. When I did my ATS training back in Canada, we believed the torture was part of them testing our stress levels. All through the training we'd do exams and sims and sometimes had to wait a bit longer for the results...They'd come in and say that some people failed and then not tell us who for a few days. Next thing you knew, someone didn't show up to class and had moved out of the training institute. Was quite a reality check for us.

24 May batch
Good Luck to all, it was a good experience.:ok:
just wondering how to prepare for the Class 3 medical. GYM? Jogging? Dieting?;) Cheers |
Try some Line Dancing and Yoga.
Won't help you pass a medical but could be a bit of fun.....and get really good at it and you will be the envy of your friends! |
initial application and online testing
Quick question which may sound silly. I was curious to hear from someone who"s applied recently. Is it Ok to assume that once you've submitted your application, about 3 weeks later you get invited to do the online testing?
Is the online testing automatic? Or are there some people who don't even get invited to do the online tests? |
Hey Canadiangal,
Also being Canadian, the process is a little different for us. To succesfully submit an application, you need to provide proof that you have at least a grade 12 education with passes in Math, English and Science. Just providing a student transcript isnt good enough either, you need to have an original copy notarized and brought to a governing body (Im in NSW it may be different in other states) so that they can review it an and provide you with a document indicating that your education meets the criteria. Once you've gone through that and complete your application you get an invitation to complete the online testing. I haven't heard of anyone not being invited to do the testing although, I assume it must happen from time to time. I think the online test is the first marker to eliminate candidates who arent suitable for the role however; thats purely speculation on my part. Hope this helps. Oh, and it took around the 3 week time frame to get the nod to do the online test I think....its been quite a while so I cant really recall with any specific accuracy. |
grade 12 requirement
Hi Canuck,
I don't have to get my high school stuff notarized as I have a TAFE diploma here in OZ.. I checked and that is my "tertiary" qualification. Will be submitting that. Just got my permanent residency too. What evidence did you provide for PR? The email you receive, or a stamp in your passport? |
You wont actually need to prove your residency status until you make it to the full day assessment. At that time you would need to bring your confirmation letter. They also check that there arent any restrictions on your residency through VEVO.
|
proof of residency
Actually Canuck, I did have to upload proof of residency for the online application. Just finished it now. I copy/pasted my confirmation email.
Does anyone have any idea when the next all day test sessions will be held? Do they hold them every 2 months in general? I am just wandering as I am going to book some overseas travel and would hate to miss out because I'm away. I guess they'd schedule me for the next ones in that case. |
As a rough guide, I applied around June last year and had my assessment late September in Brisbane, so about 3 months. I'm sure that would vary quite a bit though.
|
Interesting, they must have changed the application process since I applied which is exactly 1 year ago tomorrow.
|
I put my initial application in about 3 weeks ago now. Anyone know how long I should expect to hear if I made it to the next stage? :ugh:
|
Im on the brisbane enroute course starting july 30 :D so stoked! now im scrambling around trying to organise my medicals!
|
well done! :D
When did you first apply mate? I am trying to get some idea how long the process is from start to finish |
Hey Cadetkid! Looks like I will also be starting that course! Can't believe I got Brisbane!! exciting times!:D:D:D:D
|
I applied at the start of January if that helps?
|
I applied in january as well harry.
Nice fifi, good work! Have you started organising your medicals? They havnt given us much time! |
No! I only got the call this afternoon. Figure I will do it tomorrow? The way the lady spoke on the phone it sounds like we are really going to have to harass CASA to get it in the 2 months!
|
Yeah that's the way she described it to me to. I got straight on the phone and booke ny dame visit and eye doc visit for the next couple of days, but I do already have an ARN. I think we wil be ok though.
|
Make sure you do push CASA and if there are any problems, push your DAME as well. It took me three and a half months to get my medical. It was a combination of paperwork not being sent to from the eye specialist and my GP, and CASA not bothering to let me know when they hadn't received paperwork. Then when I was finally approved, there was a stuff up in their accounts department which caused another delay.
Luckily I got my offer at the beginning of November and started work yesterday, so I had plenty of time. Just got back from dinner, paid for by the firm :ok: |
Ill definately be on their backs about it. I had to get a class 2 medical a few months back and that came back reasonably quick so I'm hoping it will be pretty much the same.
You would assume ASA believe its possible to get the medical in time or they wouldn't offer places on the course this close to the start day. |

Good to hear a few of you starting the course in the next few months! you will thoroughly enjoy your time training, especially with the trainers up here in Brisbane, good set of blokes.
Don't worry too much about your medicals..just get them done over the next week, CASA always seem to pull through a day or two before its needed, with a bit of a heads up! I have not long finished the college myself (in Melbourne) and now am fully operational in Brisbane, its been a tough year and a half but rewarding! so keep at it, and feel free to msg with any questions or worries you guys may have. |

Just wondering what is so complicated that it could take CASA that long to process? And does anyone know the average length of time it take to get a medical cert? I start the enroute course in almost exactly 8 weeks.
I have friends in the aviation business who have particular doctors they go to, so could I potentially go straight to that doctor or does it have to be arranged through CASA? |
