Flew Eastern yesterday LGW-NQY. It was okay, but despite booking directly with the airline and signing up for its website, there was no notification that the departure time was pushed back a couple of days ago from 1430 to 1510. (In fact, it still showed 1430 on the airport screens). Luckily, the time was not earlier or the flight might have been rather empty!

What difference does 40m make, you might ask? This being Cornwall, the only two car hire firms at NQY both close on the dot at 4pm, regardless of flight schedules. A £30 late-opening fee (levied on each customer) and a race across the full expanse of a remote, windswept car park ensued.

The flight was a further 40m late even on the later time. Anyone looking for an explanation of all this would be disappointed as there was not a single peep from the flight deck except "seats for take-off" and "10 minutes to landing". Cabin crew were pleasant and I had a cup of tea and a biscuit for my troubles, but unless the railway is closed again (as it was yesterday) then it's back to GWR for me.

What's happening with ATR 72 G-IACZ, its tried to fly to Teesside on a couple of occasions from East Midlands but diverted back to East Midlands, why Teesside and not Humberside.

From the BBC this morning:

Mr Bezuidenhout said: "Eastern Airways failed to deliver the services as contracted, which severely compromised Aurigny's ability to respond to the unforeseen weather and technical challenges during February and March 2024.

"The contract with Eastern Airways has been terminated."

Eastern Airways has been contacted for comment.

And now they have got a contract with KLM for the summer period. I hope KLM give them the chop sharpish when undoubtedly their on time performance is awful

The issue there however is KLM themselves are having peoblems, cancellations are currently commonplace even with a raft of contingency operators. German Airways and Transavia currently filling in on several rotations a day. It's probably going to be a bit of messy summer for KLM unfortunately.

Eastern do have a very poor reputation for otp and completion factor overall with a trail of very badly delivered acmi and franchise stints behind them. Not to mention an own route network that changes more than the weather.

I just feel sorry for the customers and that includes the airlines that give the work to them as it reflects on them too and causes brand damage.

I see Eastern really seem to be plugging recruitment at the moment, again I feel sorry for anyone who runs towards that burning building. They have been quick to cull the numbers in the past the moment work slacks off, they will have a wobble and send all the Embraers off into storage again no doubt.

It's such a shame really, for a once very respectable little regional carrier.

They have taken on extra crew and ground staff. Are they just contracted for the summer?

Eastern leave a trail of destruction following ANY lease agreement they sign up to.

I cannot comprehend why KLM have engaged Eastern given their RECENT track record. (Do your own research)

Place your bets now folks as to how long this contract lasts……………………..!!

I hope you’re wrong, but fear you’re right. I imagine this may be more lucrative than their previous though, and KLM Cityhopper haven’t been the most reliable in recent years. I just hope this isn’t just a ploy to manage to destruction!

Yep you’ve nailed it. All I can say is KLM MUST be desperate! EA is absolute car crash these days. Such a shame it’s like this compared to the once great little airline.

The schedule for the KLM flying looks like the same mess in the making as the initial Air France operation. Even if the Teesside crew end up in Newcastle every lunchtime, the Humberside crew land in Glasgow every lunchtime and then end up sitting there for 24 hours until the aircraft comes through again.

This will be a very hungry operation for crew resources and as has been seen lately, Eastern isn’t exactly flush with crews. I don’t think this looks especially promising.

Such a shame to see Eastern perform so poorly over the recent years. Word is that the future of the last two remaining oil/gas contracts up in ABZ is uncertain too. With the last major contract being up for renewal/tender in a matter of months. Performance to and from LSI has been troubled by tech issues of both ground equipment up in LSI and the JS41 aircraft going tech too regularly. The HAU rotation which is once weekly is now being operated by an EJET, probably due to the lack of 41s?
ABZ-WIC has been issued with contractual penalties due to poor performance last year too. There is multiple articles to be found online in regards to this. Makes me wonder what the future will bring for the Eastern ABZ base. Who doesn't remember the times where the entire ABZ apron was lined up with blue Eastern tails. Those times seem long gone unfortunately. I feel really bad for all the crew who try their best and give their all every day. Eastern has been very resilient over the past decades, and for the sake of their crews I hope they can use this and turn things around for the better.

Most on here pretty much knew this already, but confirmation that the CWL-ORY route has officially been dropped and will end this Saturday (30th Mar): https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/w...rdiff-28889840

They were supposed to be getting two additional E190s for the KLM operation. Less than a week to go and no sign of them!

Maybe the apparent lack of any dedicated commercial flying for their current frames was deemed sufficient.

Are Eastern flying every day from Aberdeen to operate the current oil/gas contracts........???

According to Jethro's one E190 is late out of mx in Germany so an E170 is covering on the KLM contract. Must be a deficit of at least 30 seats - I didn't think they would be delivering the famed Eastern service so soon!

Haha yes covering Teesside next 2 days atleast, let's hope those 30 seats weren't booked

If there famed service is anything to go by, it will soon be done on a Jetstream 41

Composed in MS Word before seeing post 318. I’ve not got the willpower to amend my post.

Both E190s are scheduled to begin KL summer leases tomorrow 31 Mar. However

E190 G-CLSN has been at Saarbrücken since 8 Feb for mx. Whilst many planned dates for its return have come and gone, it remains at Saarbrücken. Is this a problem Eastern were aware of, or is it something that has been sprung on them and they have no control over?

E190 G-CLYU ferried HUY-AMS today as planned.

Therefore, E170 G-CMPI ferried HUY-AMS this afternoon to replace G-CLSN until it’s available. Thus 76 seats replacing a contracted 100 seats (Willing to be corrected).

How many more passengers are going to be inconvenienced through their booked airline relying on the services of an airline with a very poor leasing contract history? That in turn reflects on the airline they made their original booking.

Furthermore, by this time, Eastern have gained a reputation within the aviation industry. Look back at TAP, Aurigny, and beyond. Why anyone wants to employ their services is beyond me. I can only think that such airlines are in such dire straits, as opposed to airlines which will not touch them.
