Without being disparaging, people with that sort of money to spend on a 'flightonly', as it were, wouldn't be naturals for routes such as Malaga, Faro et all.. believe it when you see it
Avoid imitations

I see the complainers are already in print about how noisy it will become at Church Fenton.
They obviously don't remember the time when up to five Jet Provosts were bashing the circuit five days a week.

It does seem incongruent. It doesn't say if it's £1000 return or one way, I'd assume baggage / sports equipment is included for that kind of money.
There are quite a few wealthy individuals with their own properties in Spain and Portugal, the more "exotic" destinations in North Africa and the East Med have fallen out of favour, so you never know. BA have done unexpectedly well to the med out of LCY with their Embraer jets - apparently with heavy club loads. It's not very comparable in terms of equipment or market but the closest I can think of.

737 commercial flights out of Church Fenton!!
Err I don't think so.
Need CAT 6 RFF (Fire and Rescue cover), some nav aids (!?) and to be a DfT 'Directed' airport for security screening purposes.
Unless the vegetable farmer has suddenly spent rather a lot on whopper fire tenders, employed an army of fire crew, bought in screening equipment and staff and had that all approved by the DfT, and spent a pile more on infrastructure, that's never going to happen chaps.
Oh, and Cannes won't take 737s so that's out of the water.

On the other hand DSA is up against LBA and therefore struggles to gain enough passengers from West Yorkshire to make the most basic of routes work.
LEA though is quickest airport to get to from South Yorkshire (if we ignore low catchment DSA) and yet is close enough to hugely populated West Yorkshire to be attractive to that population of passengers. It also sits on the busiest rail lines in the country. Please say you understand or I am going to lay down on the TDZ of 32!

But LBA is not attractive to people from South Yorkshire. Hardly anyone from South Yorkshire uses LBA [as a ratio of passenger throughput] - not surprising as it is a lot quicker and easier to travel the further distance to EMA from South Yorkshire. Also LBA in aviation terms is very very far from ideal.

Leeds Approach: To say LBA is far from ideal when we are comparing LBA with LEA- there's no comparision --- LBA is way ahead in all aspects. As for South Yorkshire not using LBA is nothing to do with it. Will Bradford consider using LEA over LBA -I doubt it.

All I'm saying is that watching this experiment will be interesting. £500 one way seems steep, but not outrageously expensive for peak summer.
I feel this is unlikely to be a tear away success, I don't know how big the market actually would be. I can't think of any short haul, point-to-point airline / LCC offering even business class out of regional UK airports? As I said, BA have proved their is a premium leisure market out of LCY and airports do well selling lounge access. But that's a long way from this.
It is a very interesting experiment in a market that dictates the "stack em high, sell em cheap (unless you can sell 'em expensive)" is the only route to success.
It will be fascinating to watch.

I doubt anyone who can afford 500quid one way to Malaga will be bothering with a train!. But York is on the ECML from which it is only 12 minutes to Church Fenton by train. The currency is not great at the moment at 1 per hour (ish with some gaps) but if a large market were to develop it would not be a killing matter to stop another couple of trains per hour out of the number shooting past to Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool.
