Thomas Cook Summer 2016
Thomas Cook are to increase the number of long haul services here next summer with:
1. New York increasing to 4x weekly departures
2. Cancun to increase to 4x weekly with a new departure on a Tuesday
3. Punts Cana will increase to 2x weekly with a new departure on a Thursday and
4. Orlando will be increasing to at least a daily departure during the peak weeks with upto 8 departures a week!
Also the article mentions that the airlines are understood to be starting Los Angeles from the 29th March 2016 2x weekly. Does anyone know anything else about this and if it's true?

Thomson have confirmed Aruba will be back for summer 2016.
I see from Travel News weekly that for summer 2016 BHX will have a new l/h to Dominican Republic plus 4 other new short/medium haul routes, and LBA get a couple of new routes with TOM. With the airline already serving such a wide variety of destinations from MAN, perhaps our best hope is for increased frequencies on some of those routes.

I would say Thomson's MAN short haul network is now quite extensive, with few gaps left to fill. I mean, there is basically just Northern Spain and one or 2 more Adriatic spots that could be realistally served
I would guess that any short haul growth for TOM at MAN would be in the form of capacity increases or frequency increases.

Thomas Cook Airlines Hits the Summer 2016 Sales :: Routesonline
There you go LAX, I saw it posted in the Thomas Cook forum earlier today, even though the article was posted in February this year and I couldn't remember seeing anything posted here about it

Stats are out. CAA Provisional put MAN at 22,303,307 for the FY.
9.7% growth in month with a rolling growth of 7.4%. Some of this will be down to Easter falling earlier than last year.
http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/80/airport...Statistics.pdf
A lot of data is currently missing so we can't compare growth to STN.

Turkish Airlines 3rd daily now fully bookable into the winter season on all platforms, including their website.
3rd flight runs Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun with B737.
There were some that were concerned the 3rd daily was a summer only expansion.
Iberia Express to Madrid is also now bookable into the winter at 3 weekly too, origianally only bookable until 24th Oct.

CAA Provisional Stats. March 2015
MAN pax up 9.7%
Not all airports yet shown but of those that have, increases varied from 3.4%
at LHR to 16.6% at EMA. LGW was 9.3%; LPL 7.7% and BHX 12.6%.
Easter falling 2 weeks earlier this year will probably have boosted results to some extent.
For Airlines at MAN:
EK 78,859 + 12% Average Load (AL) 424 (Is this a monthly record?)
EY 38,938 + 41% AL 314
QR 25,092 + 24% AL 202
SQ 8,288 + 26% AL 134
SV 7,065 AL 196
CX 10,808 AL 300 (LF 88.3%)
The US was more mixed but ATL and MCO showed increases from March last year.

IN terms of load factors, here is what I make EK:
Worst case: daily 442 seat 77W + 2 daily 519 seat A380. 85.94% loads.
Best case : daily 360 seat 77W + 3 daily 489 seat A380. 95.06% loads.
This despite having the perceived handicap of CX now offering non-stop Hong Kong services; prior to this EK had 38% market share of MAN-xxx-HKG according to CAPA. Time for other airlines who believe they are similarly affected by EK offering 1 stop strategies to their own hubs to re-evaulate their positions
In the meantime, a few more months like that and it's 3rd A380 time!

Ringwayman, an interesting point you make about the CX service having little or no effect on EK loads.
Looking at the other two MEB carriers, the picture is more mixed.
QR at 2 x daily and an average load of 202 only equates to a LF of 77.8% if the 260 seat version of the A332 operated each flight. If the A333 was used at all, then that LF is less than that.
EY is more difficult to assess depending on whether the B777 operated both flights on some days.
Best case of 1 x A332 (260 seats) and 1 x B777 (2 class 412 seats) would give a LF of 94%. Worst case - if the B777 had operated all flights, it would still be a LF of 76%.
Another good month for CX with an average LF in the high 80's. If the HK were to go daily at some stage, I wonder if that would start to make an impact on the 1 stop carriers.

While it didn't go into details, Emirates has said Manchester is its 2nd highest O&D market in the world after London. It beat places such as New York, Manilla and Paris.
Not a bad accolade to have, and shows MAN-DXB really isn't just about accessing the DXB hub.
In terms of Etihad, Manchester is apparently 3rd behind London and Manama for pure O&D traffic too.
Who would have thought it!

Depends if it's absolute volumes or % split of total passengers carried. #curious
Are there many more stations ahead of MAN in terms of absolute volumes of pax carried? Gotta be top ten surely?

Second busiest O&D market in UK maybe. If memory is correct last year or year before there was details and something like 60,000 was O&D

If it happens then I assume it wouldn't be before the end of the year. Their first 787 is slated for production a couple of slots after BA's 5th 789, which isn't due until November, so presume Saudi will take delivery around the same time. Would be a reduction in cargo capacity which is a slight surprise given the reports on how well that is doing.

Just merely an observer on this post but thought I would ask some light hearted questions about MAN,
Firstly, How come they have a "no bag" policy on any of their escalators?
the inside driving lanes of departures are closed (for good reason) would you think having an exterior bag drop/express check in similar to what they have in the states be a good use of this unused area? Or are we at a time where we re-open these roads in the UK after the glasgow incident many years ago?
If anyone remembers those magnificent chandiliers in T1 in the 90s? I would love to see those back as it was one of my earliest memories of the airport as a kid!
What makes an airline choose a certain terminal? Like do FR choose T1 because of the short taxi times to and from the active? Or is it the usual suspect of cost driven decisions?
Any answers would be great, having a boring morning so thought I would ask!
Have a good friday folks!

So your saying that over 600 of the 799k between MAN-DXB are O&D passengers then!
Plenty of articles on the interweb, so if you take exception to the stats, talk to Emirates if you feel they are wrong.

Im not saying anything Jamie, the info has come from the UAE itself. It didnt say 2nd highest in UK, it was talking about worldwide as New York, Manilla and Paris were all mentioned, to which the last time I checked, were not in the UK.
