It appears that once again Apron space is to be sacrificed on the stands at the far end of freight (71 72 etc) for car parking this summer even though the massive new car park is soon to be fully operational down at the Heald Green end.
Sorry to be facetious, but you can't help wondering if the current excellent growth in passenger numbers isn't a bit of an embarrassment for the airport in some respects.

I see on the airport website that a security screening checkpoint has opened on the ground level at T1. Is this where the Jet2 check in is/(maybe was until recently, its been a few months since I was through T1). The website is not clear where this gets you airside?

But the airport authority will know exactly how many stands are required
and will have accounted for these new services as slots will have been put in a while ago even if not confirmed.

I accept there is no point in having wasted apron areas and too much excess parking capacity, but surely an airport needs some wriggle room and flexibility if things go pear-shaped. Did you survey the apron and stands last summer between 6 and 7 a.m? It looked pretty full to me. What happens if delays of say 1 hour accumulate on departures and your arrival rush starts, such that your runway slots and stand planning goes to pot?
It's been said many times before but MAN has potential problems because of its severe peaks and troughs in traffic flow. We know there is plenty of room on T2 and elsewhere in the afternoons but the airport has to cope at its busiest periods even if schedules go awry.

dead right I am an optimist, if you believe it strong enough it will happen
I read a few other forums and my god they drive you potty with their negativity
Manchester is my local drome and I have seen it come from under 2m
pax to where it is now, of course things can be done better or different
I think it`s doing quite well.

@TSR2, those holding areas are normally empty stands. But if all the stands are full, where will you put the aircraft? There isn't enough space to put them at the runways, you could put one at U1 for 23L maybe, but if you're on 05s or 23R single there is no space (the JS1 holding bay is gone).
Manchester is not a place with a load of spare taxiways, you get room for a few aircraft to hold, but you quickly run out of space.
Also, since two taxiways (Q and P) double as stands, when there is a lack fo stands these are already closed, meaning you get even fewer places to hold aircraft waiting for stands.

UAE Air Force A330
Hi all,
Does anyone know why the UAE Air Force A330 was in today? It seemed to leave pretty heavily loaded and wondered if it was for painting or just a charter

Scheduled stop on the way to California. Will night stop on its return flight later in the week.
Used to be a regular, but, then had issues at MAN so started to use Brize, but, has now switched back to MAN. Will be a regular again stopping off twice a month.

Enter Air to base a 737 at MAN this summer for part of the week at least to operate charters to Preveza, Heraklion and Zakinthos. More may be added and operate some W rotations through BHX.

Its good to see a resurgance of Charter at MAN.
The smaller based operators now consist of Condor and Avion Express (for Thomas Cook but using their own crews), Germania, Enter Air and Small Planet.
Added to that the non based chrters from Evelop, Pegasus, Corendon, Air Baltic, Jetairfly, Nouvelair Tunisie and Air Europa.

Yeah great to see some charter variety and good news about Air Canada.
Possibility of EK 747 freighter 1-2 weekly flight to cover cargo loss from 2 daily A380. Apparently, currently running cargo through NCL and BHX.
And from MAN facebook group, not sure if anyone has any further info but in GDS, airline listed as 'unknown' has several MAN based flights. A few of them listed below and is not any of the previously mentioned airlines apparently.
MAN 1405 BJV 2015
BJV 2115 MAN 2345
Mondays
MAN 1210 HER 1830
HER 1930 MAN 2200
Thursdays
MAN 2030 CFU 0205
CFU 0305 MAN 0440
Thursdays
May be further Enter Air flights?

Wonder why ACr are still quite hesitant- would have thought a full summer daily would be up and running by now. Its the same, if not worst at EDI with a less than daily short summer only service.

MANFOD,
Im from Brum and don't visit MAN that often,
Surely there must be room to put some more stands in , you are doing so well must be time for a new apron somewhere or is there simply no area to put this ?

I can't see why any other passengers can't use the security route out of the Jet2 check-in area, but I haven't used it myself so can't be certain.
It brings you out in the corridor after the other security route, just prior to the currency exchange.

I can't see a reason either, but you never know. I suppose they could set the automated gates up only to let Jet2 passengers through, although the benefits of choosing to do this escape me.
