Interesting one, BA/sunair go to billund bt that seems like a biz-oriented flight to me. Are norwegian going for tourists to Legoland perhaps? Although in september can't be much demand for that?

"Just follow the guidelines and you can't go wrong"
I presume in TURINS world , as this is not actually fact yet, those who choose to comment will be red carded?
I will leave it to others to speculate like Burnham becoming mayor as to whether "strategically" its important or not, but lo and behold the HS2 station at Manchester Airport appears to be in more than a spot of bother.
Infact cancellation of the much discussed Man Airport station appears to be coming downwind of 05 left faster than a "...' Genex134".
Little doubt it's been leaked deliberately.

HAHA, yes! For once I have to agree with John Prescott. The agenda all along was to secure the Birmingham to London HS2 line. Releasing more capacity for commuter trains in the South-East on the route of the WCML. The rest is dispensable. Certainly the station for Manchester Airport seems to be. And who [at Westminster] cares about Sheffield? They probably won't get their long-overdue transpennine motorway link either.

Where is Cilla. .. "suprise suprise "
Manchester Airport HS2 station supporters who salivated on where the station would sit plus ideas about connectivity to the terminals should be rightly outraged nay apoplectic!

HS2 station at MAN
Unless the HS2 route into central Manchester has changed, the position of the HS2 station at MAN is unlikely to have changed.
It was always subject to third party funding and this seems likely to be a (possibly distorted) reflection of this.

That's not what the documents I've seen say. I have seen no distinction between funding for the station or access to it. It has always been that HS2 conditionally supports this station, that condition being the funding package to get value for the taxpayer.

Well I'm pretty sure like the Birmingham Airport interchange link it was "implied" it was a part of the HS2 budget.
HS2 LTD put out all the planning in terms of info graphs etc of their design.
It will certainly be news to a lot of people if we are now saying this was ALL due to be a "privately funded element".
"Given the potential for significant development around an HS2 station at this location, the government conditionally supports the airport station subject to agreeing a suitable funding package with the airport and the wider region in order to deliver a fair deal for the taxpayer."
So what form does that "support" actually take ?
A flimsy map, and a consultation document?
I thought the station was an HS2 ltd recomendation I must confess I took that to mean HS2 LTD would fund the station and MAG would fund the connectivity ?

Clearly The Times have it incorrect and it's a complete non story.

Norwegian to Billund
I am pretty sure that ACL have reported that the Billund slots were filed as 'sleepers' by Norwegian and will instead be used for services to Spain/the Med.

The comments were NOT political.
The current council make up are Labour? In my view they have improved Manchester as a City and its prosperity directly impacts the airport! A new mayor will have equal influence in certain areas, it is therefore equally legitimate to investigate the track record of a new incumbent. If you want an example see Boris and his claims of a new airport for London.
The appointment of a new mayor matters!

The Billund slots have been re-filed, as the timings for the Billund also don't fit the original Spanish schedule.
There should be 3 new routes for the winter, Billund, Tenerife and Las Palmas on top of the new Spanish routes this summer, which will continue into the winter.

Thanks LAX. Speaking of Spanish routes, any plans for IB Express to increase frequency this year or are they sticking at 3-weekly ? I recall there was talk of daily some time ago but seems to have gone quiet.

Iberia Express seems to be an 'as you were', as the winter period saw them apply for daily slow but they never used them.
Hopefully the Norwegian routes come to fruition, as it's nice to see them back on the expansion from Manchester. I suppose a lot will depend on aircraft deliveries, as they are already having to hire in aircraft to meet the summer schedule requirement.

HS2
The funding for the station is from MAN but the route might change if they drop the station so that it's not near enough to MAN to have a station anymore. That's the potential change.
IMHO, HS2 to the south of Piccadilly will need another station before Crewe just like we have Stockport now (and others). However, I've always expected that HS2 north of Crewe would be scrapped along with some of the Eastern side and have long been keen for MAN to not focus on it to improve rail connectivity but moreover to campaign for things like the western link to the Chester line for example.

The canny voters of Manchester voted against having a mayor recently, and guess what, they're having one imposed by the government in Westminster. Ho hum, so much for "localism".
Can't say the government hasn't learned from its masters in Brussels!
