Indeed, it could be a good way for them to get hold of larger aircraft for the heavy demand routes and Monarch serve a lot of the same destinations a Easy so a lot of synergy already. It does seem to be a proposal that could work.

Anyone with initial thoughts in terms of what it would mean for MAN? First thing to note is that they are T2 so would we see Easy make an early move to T2 as part of the masterplan?

I think it would be a shame if it meant the end of Monarch as a separate company as they have a great heritage and provide choice. They also have scheduled routes e.g VRN, that are not provided by others. I think it depends what EZY have in mind, if it means more expansion then that would be a benefit but it is good to have plenty of competition as we have now.

You appear to overlook the fact that some of the MON A321s are ex easyJet.
EZY acquired them from GB Airways and couldn't get rid of them quick enough.
The current which terminal speculation on MON is a little premature, and whatever happens, it will be more about Gatwick than Manchester.

People in the EXS thread seem to think that the dart group want the hangar, which would be interesting, i wonder if EXS would consider buying MON if they are indeed for sale

Do keep up - was announced on 29th March here.

Just because it appeared on airlineroute doesn't necessarily mean it's new news!

Manchester Boston featured on the Norwegian website but then the booking engine fell off a cliff at the point where you confirmed. Were they assessing demand ?

CHINA

The Chinese Dragon roars in the UK :: Routesonline

2 interesting paragraphs in particular: (my emphasis in bold)

"The most notable is a first scheduled link into a regional UK city from China. Hainan Airlines will debut a four times weekly link between Beijing and Manchester from June 10, 2016 and we can reveal that it is set to expand to a more frequent operation from the start of next year to support strong demand".

Manchester is also expected to welcome a new direct link Into Shanghai from Air China, although some final licensing issues are understood to have delayed its launch until late 2016 or even early 2017.

Good to see Hainan going daily so soon. By all accounts, they are not stopping with just a daily Beijing either.

Air China should be announced in the next few months for a late September-early October start. Apparently suitable slots at Shanghai have been the main hurdle to jump, all the authorities for the route were granted months ago.

Air China.

Do we know if progress has been made on the slots or is it still a hurdle to climb?

Apparently slots are now sorted. The airport seems confident at the start dates posted above.

Hainan have taken a few routes off sale from 1st January due to changes being made. Chicago and Boston have been temporarily removed due to an up gauge to the B787-9, Brussels has been taken off due a an increase to 9 weekly and MAN taken off due to an increase to daily. I don't know why the flights have to be taken off sale to make changes.

All other long haul seems to be on sale so definitely something going on. The 4 routes off sale are some of Hainans biggest profile routes.

Both Delta and American to continue B767-300 operations on the JFK route this winter.

This added to more TCX flights to JFK in the winter too, seems the JFK route is going from strength to strength at Manchester.
