The current council make up are Labour? In my view they have improved Manchester as a City and its prosperity directly impacts the airport! A new mayor will have equal influence in certain areas, it is therefore equally legitimate to investigate the track record of a new incumbent. If you want an example see Boris and his claims of a new airport for London.

The canny voters of Manchester voted against having a mayor recently, and guess what, they're having one imposed by the government in Westminster. Ho hum, so much for "localism".
Can't say the government hasn't learned from its masters in Brussels!
