New routes like SFO, BOS, LAX may dilute JFK transfer PAX but new entry points and increased frequencies into the U.S. and Canada (e.g. DFW) is the next logical development.
It will be interesting to see who pushes this agenda, legacy carriers like AA, DL/VS or new entrants like Norwegian.

Manchester does have to be mindful of Dublin re US growth.
Our increases are "significant"
Dublins are "Astronomical"
RoutesOnLine suggest it's now the most popular airport for self connection especially to the US.
Gains to the US are welcome but I can't help thinking they would be even more widespread and significant if we didn't have the spectre of IAG wholeheartedly feeding DUB from every regional airport in the UK.

I agree - Dublin is very much in the acendency - particularly heading west. I note that Manchester was notes as one of the top 3 connecting points (albeit self connection). I have a feeling Norwegian might see the point to point strengths of MAN to the U.S.
MANs core long haul is heading east, building on and developing Emirates, Etihad, Qatar, Singapore, Cathay as well as the soon to start Hainan and Air China is key.
If China Southern also start the only obvious gaps in the market are indian, Thai, Malaysian and Japanese airlines. Some of those have fairly fundamental problems to deal with but I'd hope to see some of these in the not to distant future.

Just a thought, but as the Indian market from Manchester is not served directly, and everyone says that it is unlikely that Air India will serve it as they fly into Birmingham, what about the potential of Jet Airways operating to MAN from DEL or BOM with their A330-300 equipment, as they have 12 on order at the moment. They also have an extensive domestic network to deal with connecting pax to the rest of India and even some other international market.
Xi'an may not seem the most obvious next choice. However a quick check reveals that whilst Xi'an is "only" the 9th largest conurbation in China it still has a population of nearly 14 million - that's double the size of Hong Kong SAR and almost three times that of the country of Singapore ! It just goes to illustrate the sheer size of the Chinese market.
Unlike some of the larger Chinese conurbations Xi'an also has attractions for the overseas tourist, being home to the famous Terracotta warriors. Xi'an has two runways, three terminals and over 30m passengers annually. It's a "focus city" for Hainan and apart from an impressive list of domestic connections they already have flights to a number of international cities including seasonal service to Sydney, so it could potentially become an interesting stopover on the way to Australia for those looking for something different. It will be interesting to see what actually happens

Flown both into and out of Xi'An airport and it's pretty nice. The city itself does have a lot to offer for tourists and I can see this being a good hub for connections within China as you say.
The big problem with connecting in Beijing is that the airport is really congested. Xi'An is far less so.
Hainan are also an inventive forward thinking airline. I preferred them to some of the other Chinese Airlines I flew on. I hope they do well at MAN.

Im hearing rumors of 9W starting at MAN. Again it could be pure speculation. Not so long ago it was Air India but nothing came of it. LAX is the man to confirm if true or not?

Jet not currently looking into MAN at the moment,
They have an extensive joint venture with Etihad and that is sufficient for Jet, as it works for both carriers to have that feed.

Shame about Jet. India is I think the most obvious major unserved market from MAN. It is probably a matter of when, not if, and as seen when the Chinese flight started it may be the tip of the iceberg.

We do have some flights to India, just not in the conventional sense.

What on earth have they done at T2 passport control ?. Had two arrivals on SQ328 in last 6 weeks, first one last month it took us 30 minutes to get through, which is bad enough, but last week it took us 50 minutes to get through, which is an absolute disgrace. It's not even anywhere near peak summer season yet.
Something has clearly gone wrong somewhere as I have been flying in and out of T2 on SQ regularly for the last 15 years, at literally all times of the year, and never had to queue for anything like that before. I had quite a queue off CX357 as well last month.
The only thing they seem to have changed on the last couple of arrivals is they no longer let you go down to the machines from the top, instead channelling everyone down the lines towards the manned desks then half way down splitting some to machines and some to desks. Not sure why they have done this but it's seems to be the only thing that could be causing these ridiculous queue's.

MAN Flyer
I had a similar experience at T2 recently. Lots of unhappy customers.
I put it down to the British obsession of trying to fix things that ain't broken and the constant need to justify one's job by chopping and changing things for the sake of it..
I know it will be of no consolation but T1 Border was a mess last week too.

Not a problem specific to MAN...I dread entering the US every time we go. We've stood in a 90 min + queue at MCO on a few occasions....I'd be well happy getting through there in 50 minutes.

and just watched, despite a build up of people at the scanners.
Veuling, Just booked a flight in November from TFS - Man cheap,
but very difficult to find on the booking engine.

Perhaps if they woke up and started providing a helpful service to the people who are paying for them to do a job through their taxes, they might just stand some chance.
