Summer 2016
Good point about the increase in movements being very similar to the increase in seats, with average seats per movement at 173. If LFs hold up, with an extra 2.45m seats in total over the summer per the ACL report, 25m pax for the year should be achievable.
The airlines with the biggest increase in seats (no real surprises).
RYR 522,995 (+21.8%)
EZY 492,078 (+29%)
flybe 241,902 (15.4%)
Jet2 189,818 (11.9%)
TCX 186,436 (11.3%)
One disappointment is there are no slots for Air China. Had they applied but then cancelled them? It looks as if we won't be seeing them this year and one wonders what their intentions are.
Pegasus include a daily SAW from 1 July. Is that still likely to operate?

Virgin Atlantic have just announced a 3 weekly SFO and 2 weekly BOS from MAN:
Manchester to San Francisco flights lift northern England tech - FT.com
Perhaps why TCX backed off?
The link may be bad and take you to a pay wall. Google the news and it allows you past for free.

Continuing from Roverman's excellent post, I have the following summary to add:
The ACL Report makes for very interesting reading right from the beginning:
Summary for Summer 2016 Start
1/ Air Transport Passenger Movements - up 12.7% on Summer 2015 Start
2/Total Available seats - up 12.9% on Summer 2015 Start
Air Transport Movement Allocation by Operator - Peak Week (Double digit changes)
Aer Lingus - plus 10
Air X - Plus 16
Austrian - plus 14
easyJet - plus 102
Flybe - plus 102
Jet2.com - plus 84
Norwegian - plus 16
Pegasus - plus 16
Ryanair - plus 88
SAS- plus 10
Small PLanet - plus 40
Thomas Cook - plus 27
Vueling - plus 16
Egypt Air - minus 10
Enter Air - minus 18
Germania - minus 26
Total Peak Weekly Movements - plus 495 = 71 extra movements per day on average
Combined Hourly Arrival & Departure (Total) Allocation
The chart provided shows the biggest increases in movements during the periods between 1000 & 1700 and also from 1800 to 2000 - all times at UTC. There are smaller increases at most other times.

VS nibbling at a slice of TCX's cake with BOS, or getting in there before NAX, or a bit of both maybe, you decide.
One thing for sure, there is not room for 3 carriers to BOS from MAN.
SFO, about time and will be a winner I think.
With the frequencies it looks like another based unit though, which at times will make T2 look pretty impressive.
VS doing at MAN what BA and BMI failed at...good on them...lets hope for more, which may well be the case

You only seem to get 3 free views of the article before it blocks you again, so, unfortunately I cannot copy and paste the link.
Basically article interviews a few business people who are thrilled with the link, Ken O'Toole and his bit, tells that SFO will be 3 weekly and BOS 2 weekly starting in March.

Ah, spannersatcx, while you are online: Any hints / suggestions / rumours as to if and when we might see an increase in those CX frequencies?
Interestingly, the ACL summer report shows a slight decrease in CX seats. Does this suggest we might see the A350 before the end of summer?

there are some cancelled flights in May, don't know why, lack of a/c or crew!
Cathay Pacific’s first A350-900 has completed its maiden flight in Toulouse, France. The six-hour flight over land and sea was conducted by the Airbus flight-test team.
The aircraft will now enter the final phase of production including cabin completion, further ground checks and test flights before being prepared for delivery.
The aircraft will be the first of 48 A350 XWBs acquired by Cathay which will include 22 A350-900s and 26 of the larger A350-1000s, for operation on long- and medium-haul services.

The end of the FT article concludes:
"Manchester is the UK’s third largest airport. It recently announced the first scheduled flights to Shanghai and Beijing of any airport outside London."
So.... when did they announce Air China's Shanghai service as I though it was all hush hush for a few more months?

Western and Eastern horizons open up.
Great news about Virgin, certainly didn't see that one coming. Whilst TCX are doing a sterling job to the USA from MAN they are non-aligned and very much leisure focussed. VS are a major brand worldwide, and with the Delta connection there's feed at both ends of these routes. Excellent.
Air China. I am told 'fear not', it will start in winter. Perhaps a good thing that we didn't have two new China routes starting the same month as there is bound to be some market overlap there. The delay will allow Hainan a chance to get some traction before facing competition direct out of MAN. I think Cathay's MAN-HKG market is distinct and different. Hainan/MAG do seem to be marketing the route - it keeps popping up on my laptop anyway.

Interestingly if you look at the Full Season Allocation you will see that there appear to be 7 less movements for Cathay in the season.

Travel Trade Gazette has this article
Confirms both routes as summer only. Virgin to codeshare with Flybe and the 1st time I've seen reported anywhere: "It mirrors Flybe’s partnership with Thomas Cook Airlines at Manchester, where the regional carrier accounts for 10-15% of passengers on Cook’s US flights. "

It's also nice to see Manchester now firmly shaking off the 'Gatwick fleet' shackles and venture ever more to 'Heathrow fleet' territory.
Along with Delta, this means Virgin customers now have direct access to New York JFK, Atlanta, Boston, Las Vegas, Orlando, San Fransisco and Bridgetown.
