Just heard some very sad news that ATC Lasham has gone bust. I had heard rumours about their financial situation for a while, and this just confirms those suspicions.

That is a blow to the staff, the airport and local economy. Stobart will now lose income from the business in fees and rents if they owned the hangars.

Lasham used to use one dedicated bay for Easyjet Work. Easyjet removed all spares from the hangar on Thursday evening.

Personal opinion here but I think it is outrageous that Stobart is looking for taxpayers money to subsidise a route where not only does Stobart own the airline proposed to run the service but it also owns both the airports that the service would run between. If Stobart has confidence in the route then by all means let them try it but with an hourly rail service that does city centre to city centre in 3 hours 23 minutes and a sparse population in Carlisle of just 71,000 people the route would never work without government funding.

As easyjet has found out, for whatever reason domestic services don't seem to work from Southend while they can be successful from other London airports. Logic would dictate that to maximise passenger appeal Southend would not get a look in if other London airports were considered but with Stobart owning Southend logic goes out of the window as they are thinking that the money would benefit all 3 of Stobarts enterprises.

Would anyone be able to list the name of all of the maintenance companies based at Southend Airport and who does the Line maintenance for Stobart Air?

many thanks

Despite me being a Southend resident and also relishing the idea of me being able to get to the Lakes quickly, I do agree with you LTNman that such a service with seemingly little appeal does seem an extravagent use of taxpayer money.

However if the governemnt of the day has put such funds up for application then I guess Sobart would be silly not to try, despite it conveniently supporting two of their airports and their airline.

I agree completely.

Supposedly an increase in flights between VCE and SEN from next April as a consequence of EZY's planned new base at Venice-Marco Polo (?).
From an earlier article EZY say they want to increase flights to London, so that could actually mean LTN, LGW or SEN. SEN is currently bookable at 4x weekly next year, but surely has potential for more.

The ch-aviation story certainly specifically mentions SEN as benefiting from additional VCE flights as a result of the new base opening. This would fit in with something I heard last week and with the S2016 schedules being released within the next 10 days we shall soon know.

I had previously suggested that city routes might be operated from overseas and it was a view that wasn't well supported. Let's see if this does come to fruition.

I also see it reported from the flybe thread that Caen is dropped for the whole winter and Munster is restored for Christmas.
