My apologies for my earlier post rubbishing your suggestion that CDG might replace SXF in February.
It's certainly an interesting choice as I didn't think I would ever see a new Paris route from a LON airport. It will be very interesting to see how it performs.

Yes, according to Flight Aware it took off from Bangor in the early hours (their time) and is due at SEN at 14:13BST. I suppose its actual arrival time will depend on the Atlantic conditions. However, it's "on its way!"
Are we due any Spitfire/Hurricane flypasts today, does anyone know?

I never thought easyjet would continue its Luton Paris service when Eurostar move to St Pancras as St Pancras is only a short direct train journey away with departures every hour for Paris. For Southend I can't see any reason why this new route would not work and will probably be expanded.

I know it's a long time ago, but Channel Airways had difficulty filling a Heron to Paris! I wish EZY good luck, but felt Copenhagen would have been a better choice. Paris is very expensive these days, and crime is on the rise, so everybody should be streetwise if they visit there. However, EZY do surprise me how they find their passengers. Here in Luxembourg, Luxair operated quite happily with their EMB145 twice a day to Milan. Then EZY jumped in with several flights a week. The result is that Luxair still keep their same pax, whilst EZY atract 130+ on nearly every flight. They are now doing the same thing on the routes to Lisbon and Porto....same story. I still believe there is a demand for Berlin, even if only 3 times as week, and perhaps the Krakow route again. (I dont think Frankfurt would be good; unless you use it as a hub for onward longhaul, but then it's quite expensive to buy two separate tickets; no codeshare).

One could suggest that with all the problems at Calais at the moment, more people are preferring to fly to France than risk Eurostar delays or cancellations. Whether those problems will still exist in a years time we'll wait and see. Let's hope it proves popular.

I agree..more to see in Paris (I have been to both)...but you also have to think of inbound pax (mostly to London perhaps)....There is a big student community moving about between Copenhagen and London; for them cheap seats would be an attraction....but let's wait and see.
TWS
Like me, I will be avoiding Calais in the future and flying in via LCY. OK, i will have to rent a car, but Europe is going to become worse over the next months and years I fear.....that's for another discussion group though

Cdg /Sen
I am sure there will be a huge demand for Parisians coming to Southend, the City of Light of Essex, for a romantic weekend.
I hope it works Sen needs all the help it can get right now.

No need to apologise
I'm sure most of us have seen routes come and go that we never expected. Goes to show, never rule anything out...

Skywork
I thought that Skywork commenced BRN-BSL-LCY flights in July on a 6 x weekly timetable but the provisional CAA August stats show LCY-BSL at 968 pax and BRN at 85 pax. Even if the BRN stats are inaccurate as a proportion of the split that's still only a total of 1,053 pax on 26 Saab 2000 rotations, giving a load factor of 40%. Meanwhile BRN-SEN carried 685 pax at a load factor of 53%.
I'm surprised firstly that the BRN-BSL-LCY service hasn't eaten into the SEN numbers more than it has and also that the LCY loads are so poor given that before Swissair gave up the route 5,500 pax per month were using it; and that was just to BSL. Or am I interpreting the figures wrongly?

AUGUST PASSENGER FIGURES
A total of 94,290 passengers used Southend in August down 22 per cent on last year. The rolling 12 month figure is 963,055 down 12.7 per cent - both disappointing figures unfortunately.

It wasn't that long ago that people here were commenting on Southend being the fastest growing airport in the UK. As I pointed out then, percentage figures from a low starting point have little meaning. Most of Southend's drop is the result of the withdrawal of just one easyjet aircraft so it would not take much to turn those figures around. At any other London Airport I don't think anyone would have noticed.

Paris? If I was going to go the whole St Pancras train the gard du nord etc is all part of it., having said that I go once every few years.. I can see the train out flight home as having some mileage as a Southend airport local
