So it's official. Something else in the airport and different aircraft type.

Harpenden aviation expert calls for independent review of Luton Airport?s flight path changes - News - Herts Advertiser
More moans about aircraft noise by residents of St Albans who like to fly from Luton as long at the aircraft flies over someone elses house.

Apparently 'aviation expert' Martin Keeping of Harpenden is particularly concerned about the noisier engines fitted to Wizz-Air's aircraft. I hadn't realised Speys or whatever were available as an option on Airbuses.

So he has made a living for nearly 30 years out of aviation and now slags off CAA, NATS, LLA, Wizz, even worked for a Luton based airline, not any more...

The airport posted this 360° view, where you can move your mouse around to get an idea what the airport will look like, near bus terminus area.

I had an interesting conversation today. It would appear that the airport to the east was not the first choice for the budget airline based in the north of England that recently made an announcement! My source is impeccable.

There is no way the airport could have accommodated a new base for Jet2 with eight aircraft from next summer. Unless Monarch or Ryanair were to suddenly leave the airport.
What's done is done, and highly unlikely Jet2 will move in the years to come, if the base at STN matures well and they get a good loyal customer following, which is what they seem good at doing, up north.
How many stands did the airport have before the expansion started and how many will it have once complete?

There would be nothing to stop the airline moving in a couple of years but with their Birmingham base just up the road Stansted gives them a whole new catchment area with not much overlap compared to Luton.

6 on the south stands
4 on the pond
2 extra on the eastern apron
1 extra on the hangar line.
Another 4 if you add the stands being used for Signature terminal 2
Only 2 of those stands will be walk on, all the rest will be bused.

Construction update
The new service road to the undercroft is almost ready for tarmacking
The ground is also being raised for tarmacking around the bases of all the passenger footbridges
Eventually the drop off lane will pass either side of the first support while the approach road and exit will pass beyond the second support. The cones mark the location of the posts that will protect the terminal from terrorist attack by cars
Also being marked up for tarmacking is the exist route from the exit barriers. The route has recently had kerbs and crash barriers installed.
Finally, the airport might be now heading out of season but the traffic is still queuing from outside the CTA to get into the drop off zone despite plenty of spaces during busy periods. The truth is the new drop off zone is going to be the airports Achilles heel for next summer as the approach roads are still going to be at a standstill due to the pedestrian crossing to get to the island. I really can't see this being left as it is as the airport heads for 18 million.

Basically yes apart from the planting of a few bushes or even a bit of grass.
The temporary fence that can just be seen on the extreme left is a new pedestrian crossing that has been closed as it was another crossing point that gridlocked the traffic. All passengers from here have to walk around the edge of the drop off zone to avoid holding up the traffic twice as they would also have to cross the inbound route as well as the outbound route. We will have to see if is is opened up again when the drop off zone reaches its full size.
Minor changes will be the cars that can be seen in the short term car park will be parking at 90 degrees but basically as far as I can tell this is just about as good as it is going to get. Also as already pointed out it is a three and a half minute walk from this point to the terminal. Only the last 60 seconds will be covered thus replacing the mud with a covered walkway would be a good idea.
