I also come from the Milton Keynes area and it is very difficult to get a nice travel experience out of anyway!

Luton is convenient but it's a hellhole and very busy.

Birmingham is very busy in the summer.

Heathrow is expensive and doesn't fly many leisure routes.

Gatwick is very far, especially battling traffic on the M25.

The only airport that is left to try is East Midlands!

Why does a leisure airport have to be a particularly enjoyable experience in peak summer ? I don't enjoy travelling on the tube in London during the rush hour

Most UK residents want to spend the absolute minimum cash possible on flights - perhaps an acceptance that to achieve holiday happiness while keeping to a limited budge, money is best saved on the flight and spent on other things such as an extra meal in a restaurant.

BHX/LTN

Giles

BHX arrivals is usually the main problem but from what I can gather it is the Cinderella of airport services especially for the 10 million plus airports and the focus is always on departures to make sure there is enough time to spend £££ in the shops.

I was panicking yesterday as our taxi was 30 minutes late picking us up for 06.55 departure from BHX but got there at 5.30 with a 10 minute bag drop and 5 minutes at sercurity (kudos) yet the airport was packed but it went beautifully. It was blatantly obvious where the airports focus is. The only person taking flak was me for picking a dodgy taxi company which stopped my 16 year old spending more money at the airport

One thing is for sure BHX will attract as much press attention as Luton if money is not spent on arrivals. Saturday's outbound Monarch fiasco seems to have been a coming together of several issues but it is the second major one of the season and it does little for the PR side of things.

Certainly enough going on to keep the LTN & BHX PR departments on their toes, not sure what Luton has next year but BHX has 4 Jet2 and one Thomas Cook extra based to throw into the mix so a busy 9 months of problem solving.

Flightpaths

Does anyone know if the westerly flight path out of Stansted has changed? Seems to have been a big increase in flights over Stevenage, and at that point they are in full climb so particularly noisy.
I think residents are mistakenly blaming Luton for the increase in noise, when generally volumes have decreased.
Any thoughts?

Agree totally Mike, plus the Heathrow north bounds all make for more noise, especially noticeable on a clear day when there are no clouds to help insulate from the aircraft noise.

Meh there will be one or two that it annoys so much they wont return. The reality is even the person having the worst trip this year. Next time the holiday time comes along and the flight from LTN is £50 cheaper they will be straight on it without a care in the world. Lets face it, Are any of "Londons" airports "fun" to fly from. I have been through STN and LHR countless times when it was fine and countless times when it was an absolute nightmare. Still fly from any of them that suit.

Apart from Copenhagen you will be hard pushed to find Luton with a price advantage over any of its London rivals.

With easyJet's new services to Tenerife, Lanzarote & Toulouse launching in 3 weeks, I was intrigued to see how forwards bookings were doing on these flights. Tenerife & Lanzarote have some good loads so far, but Toulouse has hardly anyone booked onto any of the flights in upcoming weeks. Is this worrying at this stage, considering Tenerife and Lanzarote are doing well for forward bookings?

Ryanair has announced a new five weekly service to Faro launching 1st May 2017, using away based aircraft.

That'd be the same Ryanair that was cutting UK growth post Brexit!

Eh "Brexit" won't even happen, Even if we do negotiate something different the likelyhood is it won't be in place for a good 3 or 4 years. (Doubt anything will change at all myself). Ryanair have plenty of time to play around.

Seems TOM are now dropping DLM for Summer 2017; has been replaced by NAP.

Ryanair
Faro route will make up for the loss of Bratislava.
If they keep five based at LTN for S17 could we possibly see increased rotations on some routes!

The Faro route is using aircraft that is based in Faro, so it will not take Bratislava's place, as it uses Luton based aircraft.

I think there is now an opportunity for Wizz Air at Bratislava. Ryanair has decided to pull off both Luton and Liverpool to Bratislava despite excellent load factors on both services.

How many passengers on Ryanair's Luton-Bratislava route over the yeara have been travelling to/from Slovakia compared to those using Bratislava as a proxy for Vienna ?
A few years ago, nonstop flights between London and Vienna were expensive - that's been changing more recently.

A few months ago one way BTS-STN tickets were available at 12 hours notice for under 100 euros. Perhaps high load factor but mediocre yield ?

Can't help but feel next year is going to be rather a struggle for the airport as a whole but in particular for Monarch. Every route they serve (save for Eilat) is served by other carriers, and with Thomas Cook arriving, easyJet expanding down to the canaries and Thomson increasing on some of their routes, Monarch will have to compete just about everywhere they fly. Also interesting to note that they're ending Rome as Vueling are rumoured to be starting and Lanzarote just as easyJet are commencing services.
