As I said a couple of weeks ago, if you want to expand at Gatwick, you'll have to purchase a rival. Sadly I fear the Monarch name vanishing from the sky and making Greybull a tidy profit.

Monarch
An asset, if a sales did go through would it be with MAEL, Slots at LGW a prized asset.
I would be sorry to see it go, too many friends over the years have benefited from a good start at MON. My thoughts to current employees who must be wondering what next happens....

A Luxair 737-800 just landed from Amsterdam. Any ideas of what it's doing at Luton?
Does anyone know if the new duty free is open yet?

I think the Duty Free is due to open at the end of May, I got confused with March! Also do you know how work is going on the drop off area and the dualling of the airport road?

In 2013 planning permission was granted for a 120 bed, 6 story hotel just down from the Ibis on the other side of the road which was never built. Another application for the same site has been submitted for a 215 bed, 9 story hotel to serve the airport. The hotel would be part of the Meininger hotel group.

"The choice of operating from and to London Luton can be regarded as particularly strategic now that Heathrow and Gatwick have been declared as potential targets for terror attacks."

I do not suspect we will see a lot more from Blue Air, maybe just some frequency increases on existing routes. They now operate to Luton from all of their current bases. They could be a potential new route from somewhere where they decide to set up a base in the future. I think that carriers like Vueling and easyJet will be the ones to be watching at Luton to see what more they have to offer.

Is that the first time in a while that Belfast has topped the domestic list?
Glasgow has dropped back a bit, I wonder why?
No surprises in the International List - I wonder how much higher Copenhagen will go in the coming year?

Belfast is doing extremely well from Luton at the moment. However the Glasgow route has definitely been affected because of Ryanair's Stansted flights. On the international side, most of the growth is with the Eastern European routes like Sofia, Vilnius, Gdansk and Katowice. It is also surprising to see that both Madrid & Barcelona didn't experience any growth in 2015, maybe because of timings or competition? Also Berlin was down, one of few out of Luton's network.
Some destinations that didn't make the list, but performed well were Rome, Basel, Lyon, Naples, Knock, Poznan, Milan and many others. Most of these routes were start by EZY in 2014/2015 and are performing very well.
I still think easyJet have so much potential at Luton and they make most routes the launch work, even Essaouira. I would like to see them operate Tenerfie, Lanzarote, Marseille, Gibraltar, Funchal & many more in the future. What does everyone think?

Barcelona is presumably set to grow this year with Vueling entering the fray. It'll be interesting to see the impact on the routes they'll be serving. Maybe it'll push Amsterdam to the top of the list next year?
I think there's definitely much more room for EZY to expand at Luton once the development works at the airport are complete. Some of the routes you mention definitely make sense. I'd like to see more Italy routes too.?

What Italian routes could they add? There Gatwick base already has many links to Italy and all of the ones that could sustain two services to Londpn have mostly been served. I think they could make Pisa year-round.
