Really like the look of that interior - looks refreshingly open and airy. Much better than the current offering.

https://vimeo.com/181682475 For a journey through the "new" airport. (don't forget to select HD) Got to say it does look good.

The video also shows the extension to the south stands, the new Taxiway Foxtrot, the extensions to the runway taxiways plus stands 16 -19 (pond) which are still full of biz jets! It's worth freezing the action for a good look but there is no sign of a station.

I have been monitoring forward bookings for easyJet's new service starting in under two weeks. Bookings for Tenerife are performing the best and Lanzarote not far behind. However, Toulouse is looking very worrying hardly any forward bookings and going on with an aggressive daily service hasn't help. I just think this was to dig at Stansted's new route from Stansted to Toulouse.

So more seats for LTN from Wizz. The A321 offers LTN 100 more seats compared to the A320.
A321
Budapest 3 daily
Bucharest 2 daily
Warsaw 1 daily
Only problem with more a321. Where will there all park in the mornings?

The video brings to mind some questions, of course. The top of the bridge/walkway looks more like glass than the (already much commented on) awful opaque plastic it is at the moment. Is pier B really going to have 5 aircraft stands? or is the last EZY actually on taxiway D? Maybe it is, although there seems to be another yellow stand centreline to the left of the Wizz. (Perhaps it's just for EMB145/CRJ operators). There also seems to be a lack of an airside road serving pier B (see my post 4851 if you really want my opinion on passengers and airside roads again....), only the road at the back of the stands. Servicing vehicles have to get to the front of an aircraft somehow. Glad I'm not driving that fuel bowser or the pushback tug! Which brings me to something else on my wish list which could/should have been included - fixed electrical power (like proper airports have). Save dragging GPU's around the airport which in turn would a) reduce traffic congestion airside b) cut the pollution levels (noise as well as diesel fumes/smoke) and c) ease the pressure on overloaded ramp staff. And of course airbridges would further help by reducing the number of steps being dragged around. Dream on.

Of course the video looks good - it wouldn't have been uploaded if it didn't. Let's hope the reality matches it!

@cj241101

All good points! The (at the time) Airport operations director actually asked for feedback from some company pilots when the plans were going in for the expansion. Top of the list were fixed ground power, parking guidance (other than the shambolic marshaling we currently put up with) and removing the service road/jetbridges. His answer to each was categorically no as it was either a) too expensive or b) 'too flashy for Luton'. He did say that all the stands would be allocated with it's own GSE in painted bays and not allocated to Ground Handlers (as was tried on the main apron last summer) and that this would be in place by April 2016. Obviously that hasn't happened but hopefully it's still on the agenda for some time in the near future!!

He basically declared that Luton would never be able to compete with the facilities offered by Heathrow or Gatwick so just wouldn't even bother trying. It's such a shame as Luton could become bearable with just a little bit of effort or money spent on it, but unfortunately everything is done on the cheap and so it remains as the worst airport in the UK, year after year.

Pier B should have 4 stands, as should the north side of the eastern apron which has recently been marked up. I had hoped they'd take this opportunity to renumber the stands to make it slightly less random but unfortunately they seem to enjoy the idea of confusing every visiting crew so have stuck with the L/R madness for now. Maybe once it's all done they could renumber everything to make it sensible?!

This could be down to the fact that the operator does not own the airport and will one day have to walk way from their investment if they don't win a new agreement. They might have the view that why spend say £112 million when £110 million will give them the same capacity with no added benefit for Aena.

A smoking area was installed and opened a couple of weeks ago for around 3 days until someone spotted that the weather protection the glass walls provided turned it into a room so smoking had to be banned and the area was taped off. After the removal of the glass the smoking area re-opened and as can be seen is very popular when it is raining but not so when it isn't despite the no smoking signs that litter the entrance.

Also noted is that the green netting has been removed from this part of the front of the link building.

According to the video the link building will be on stilts but what looks like rooms are being built at apron level

Work has almost been completed on digging out the new service road to the undercroft. A wire fence is being placed on the new wall.

The multistory car park is being fitted out with precast concrete to form fire escapes.

On a slightly negative note the heavens opened today and with rain drops hitting the lens it can still be seen that the drop off / pick up area is not a great place to wait when it is raining. The airport have not indicated that the drop off area will be protected from the weather.

The multistory will be opened to the public later on this year and will be used as part of the short term parking facility and all of the priority parking where the car is taken off you and parked by airport staff.

I would book now for the best deals, as prices go up the nearer the date. Bookings can be cancelled or amended.

https://secure-booking.london-luton....ntryPage.aspx?

Example 5am arrival 5 December, 8pm departure one week later so eight and a half days parking.

£44.99 long term
£64.99 mid term
£89.99 Priority Parking
£103.49 Short term.

I would pick either the long term car park as the mid term has no advantage or the Priority Parking which already uses the multistory for its parking but for their drivers only.

With the priority parking, by the time you have check-in, had your car inspected and then checked out again the time saving won't be that great but it is popular.

Whatever you do don't use the unofficial meet and greet company.

I would also avoid the short term car park, as it is too busy so you might well have a week of random cars parking next to you with their banging doors on your paintwork.

So no undercover walkways in the drop off area and no airbridges I can only imagine how bad it can be on a rainy day!

There will be a covered walkway from the terminal to the first core of the footbridge. Passengers will then be in the open for the drop off area.

I have stood under cover on a section of walkway that was erected as a way of keeping car park passengers dry while waiting for buses. I still got soaked as the rain was horizontal.

The walkway in the video looks a little different to what has been provided so maybe it will be replaced with something a little wider.

I'd highly recommend the external airport parking companies, especially Central Car Storage... Just past the train station, hardly ever had to wait to be taken up to the airport.

As they run transit mini-buses, they take up no more than 8-10 people up to the airport at a time and none of this waiting for a big bus to fill up. Never use meet and greet, but when you fly home, they have car waiting for you at the car park and in the cold weather engine running and car all de-iced on a cold night.

Only £39.99 for the same period as mentioned above.

No worse than Southampton where you can get absolutely soaked.
