As I said previously I am not sure whether the routes do not work or it is that the bases at JER and IoM don't add up to useful package. As Flybe are trying to consolidate opening at LTN base wouldn't make sense either - my guess is that they will consolidate on their strengths.

I can see BE just focusing on developing their network from a few key bases, I should imagine these being BHX, MAN, SOU and BHD. Airports like LTN could be served by BE in the future by W-pattern ops (BHX-JER-LTN-JER-BHX?) perhaps once they have finished re-structuring

For anyone who is interested, there is the second visit by the Thomson 787 currently parked on the south stand. Does anyone have any idea when it might depart?

I can't see BE returning any time soon. If the IOM & JER routes were seen by them as viable from LTN then they surely wouldn't have dropped them & could have found a way to integrate them into a W pattern originating from somewhere like BHX or SOU.

I struggle to see why these routes can't be made to work by another operator. JER has been a fixture of the summer schedule for as long as I can remember. Even if a weekend only, summer service was flown like in the old BD days there must surely still be a market for it (same with GCI)?

As for IOM, does BA from LCY & EZY from LGW really saturate the market in the London area?

Some STN diversions this morning due to an incident overnight there involving a Gulfstream 550 and the ILS together with low-viz conditions.

Been an interesting mix the last few days. Not including diversions. Spanish Metroliner, Polish Saab, Tend Air MD80? Arkefly 767, TUI 787.. Jet2 757. Titan airbus operating footy flight today I think. Didn't see any of them mind you.

What diverted in? I heard the saudis took down stansted lol.

Ah right, I was reading it on some other blogs/sites.. "Spotter mode" seems to be all we have at the moment unfortunately. Slow news in winter.

Monarch appear to have dropped Munich from Luton for W14/15. I don't think it will operate from any of their bases during that period.

Being a bit spotterish I know the Tend Air MD-80 brought in the Stena Bucharest team who play Chelsea tomorrow Wednesday and the Titan took the Arsenal team to Naples. Not a good time of year to have someone mess-up your ILS system - could be an interesting few weeks ahead and could be costly for some.

Don't know how bad the damage is to Stansted's ILS but when the Dan Air B727 took out Luton's runway 26 LLZ in 1974 we were without ILS for weeks. I was in the radar room at the time and the ILS monitor panel lit up like a Christmas tree! :-)

More fog tomorrow morning.

If there is fog in light wind conditions aircraft might be able to land in the opposite direction

I assume if STN ILS out for a few weeks and low vis overnight, EMA will gain with cargo, perhaps LTN with a few posties and German arrivals first thing.
Anyhow, these things happen and I'm sure will be fixed ASAP.

Damage is to the 04 Localiser and the 22 far field monitor.

The hope is to be fully operation by tomorrow morning.

The Far Field Monitor? Gosh, at Luton that is well off the centreline. Not necessarily at Stansted, of course.

I thought it has to be calibrated first by a special calibration aircraft. Not a 5 minute job!

No doubt the 04 loc will have to calibrated.

The only fault with the 22 system is the FFM which is not a calibratable (sp) part so no special flight required. I imagine the airport will be restricted to 22 ops in marginal weather

Update: both ILS system now fully functional and up to Cat3. Assuming all of the night flights manage to stay clear of it then there shouldn't be any bonus traffic for Luton.

That's pretty impressive they've managed to get both ends back up to Cat III so quickly. When we had significant disruption to ground base kit we ran it for several hours at Cat I before uprating it to Cat III.
