Says it all that that the biggest news for the airport so far this year, Besides the Atlas Jet flights I am falling asleep. You would think anyone operating summer routes would have announced by now so tickets could go on sale. zzz.zzz.zzz.
Driving past the other day I saw the cladding going up on the signature hangar, Doesn't look far off completion now.

Seeing there is so little news lets talk about me being done by the airports no stopping camera that is mounted on top of a mobile van.
I saw the van parked up by the entrance to the short term car park. One week later I am sent a parking charge notice.
No disputing the photo I haven't posted here showing my company vehicle passing the camera van but I enclose the evidence of the offense. You need to look at the two headlights at the middle top. The two cars in the foreground are parked in the short term car park.
Can you see the registration? Maybe you can tell what make of vehicle it is? Still no, how about if it is a car or a van or even its colour.
Oh and if you use the fence posts between the headlights as a reference the vehicle in the photos is actually moving as it heads for the camera van.

charge not a fine you say ?
I'm not a lawyer but I think that they have to prove you were the driver to make it stick.
Write back asking for proof that you were the driver and let us know how you get on.......

Yes it was a parking charge notice as they can't dish out fines. They don't know who the driver was so they have written to my company asking them to pay.
Why let the small detail of identification and evidence get in the way of trying to make a little bit of money

High Court rules that coach concession terms granted by Luton Airport Operations are abusive. On 28 January 2014, the High Court handed down a ruling in an action by Arriva The Shires Ltd (ATS) against Luton Airport Operations Ltd (Luton Operations). ATS alleged that Luton Operations abused its dominant position, contrary to the Chapter II prohibition, in the context of award and terms of a coach concession between Luton Airport and London Victoria. ATS had operated the coach concession for 30 years. At the start of 2013, Luton Operations invited various coach operators to bid for the right to operate that route and the contract was granted to National Express. In particular, ATS alleged that the tender procedure adopted by Luton Operations was unfair and discriminated against ATS. In addition, ATS alleged that the exclusive nature of the concession awarded to National Express amounted to an abuse, and that the concession discriminated in favour of easyBus whose service was permitted to continue as an exception to the exclusivity. The High Court concluded that Luton Operations did not abuse a dominant position in the way in which they conducted the tender for awarding the new concession to National Express. However, the High Court concluded that by granting a seven-year exclusivity period to National Express, giving National Express a right of first refusal on services to new destinations in London and discriminating in favour of easyBus, Luton Operations did abuse their dominant position. The terms of the new concession seriously distort competition between coach operators wanting to provide services from Luton Airport bus station without objective justification. The trial proceeded on the assumption that Luton Operations holds a dominant position in order to expedite the proceedings which will now need to be resolved. (Arriva The Shires Ltd - v - London Luton Airport Operations Ltd
166 page report here Arriva the Shires Ltd v London Luton Airport Operations Ltd [2014] EWHC 64 (Ch) (28 January 2014)
key point.
In summary my conclusions, on the assumption that Luton Operations are dominant for the purposes of the Chapter II prohibition, are as follows:
ii) By entering into the New Concession agreement with National Express, Luton Operations did abuse their dominant position because those terms, by granting a seven year exclusivity period to National Express, giving National Express a right of first refusal on services to new destinations in London and discriminating in favour of easyBus seriously distort competition between coach operators wanting to provide services from the Bus Station and there is no objective justification for that distortion of competition.
This judgment necessarily leaves a number of issues unresolved. The most obvious ones are whether Luton Operations are in fact dominant; the terms of any injunction to be granted; the quantification of any damages suffered by ATS and whether any other relief is appropriate. Since I have not heard argument on any of those matters, they will need to be addressed at a later date.

Italy
Indeed it is, Venice is a very welcome new route
We've seen a very good, gradual expansion of flights into Italy in recent years thanks mostly to easyJet & Monarch. I wonder what other routes we might see added in the future?
Florence, Verona, Palermo, Cagliari all spring to mind.

I'm a bit out of touch on how many a/c Easy have based at Luton these days, but am I right in thinking the number hasn't changed over recent years.
If that is the case then any extra routes are always at the expense of other routes.
With the South stands now available surely there is now space for more a/c to park up over night?

Level Bust - you are correct; the number of based EZY aircraft has not changed for sometime, although there has been a capacity increase as 4
A319's have been replaced with A320's.
Given Stelios' continued attempts to prevent the size of the EZY fleet from increasing significantly/at all, then EZY understandably allocate aircraft to bases which are going to be the most profitable. At the moment there seem to be more profitable opportunities elsewhere.

pabely, easyJet did serve Cagliari in the past but think they withdrew when they had a spat with the airport & downsized their fleet at the airport. I'd have thought it could be a good route for Monarch to expand with.
As for the easyJet fleet size at Luton, wasn't it once bigger than it is now? It would be good to see more planes at Luton to open up new routes. Hopefully as the airport improvements happen EZY will increase their commitment to the airport.

Sibiu
Interesting flight times re Sibiu.
Arrives back at LTN @23.30hrs, does that mean it's overnighting as can't see flights out around midnight.
Wizz did it a couple of years ago for the summer season for Split/Dubrovnik departures if I remember correctly , so I guess the CC will be back in the Airport hotels again!
