Aren't EI's cash reserves expected to start growing again, from later this year?

I have to say I'm surprised that, in this day and age, an article like this - so blatantly negative and biased against a particular company - can be published without anyone putting his/her name to it; how can we know it wasn't simply written by FR and faxed over? Certainly has that feel to it - and the Indo hasn't always been impartial in its attitude to EI.

shame about redundancies, i wish those involved the best of luck
They are all voluntary redundancies.

Well according to the same newspaper just a few days before then the answer is yes, the cash reserves are expected to grow.

even so, leaving a job in the current climate needs some luck, unless you have lots of cash saved up or your lucky and get straight back into employment.. unless ofcourse they are near retirement..

The vast majority of those leaving are nearing retirement, but it also includes some others who are taking up emloyment elsewhere.

You will be hearing rather a few Irish accents in the skies over Vietnam in the not too distant future.

LGW-DUB

Timetable seems to be changing with a Gatwick departure at 0640
every day.

Only tried a few dates in May but last in at LGW is 2200.

The strange aspect when I was checking was 9 departures
ex Gatwick and six ex Dublin but probably in the process of
change.

Aer Lingus Deputy CEO, Niall Walsh, resigned today.

One of the last of EI's original A330, EI-DUB (msn 055) was ferried from DUB-MAN on Sunday, for repainting and onward delivery to Vladivostok Air.

JetPhotos.Net Photo » EI-DUB (CN: 055) Aer Lingus Airbus A330-301 by John Fitzpatrick

EI-DUB was delivered to Aer Lingus in May 1994. Only EI-ORD (msn 059), of the first group, now remains in the fleet. EI's current A330 fleet now consists of four A330-300s (with a fifth to come in April/May, EI-ELA) and three A330-200s (one of which will be used for the UAL service to MAD).

Niall Walsh, the Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer is to leave EI

RTÉ Business: Another executive to leave Aer Lingus

Nothing wrong with a trimmed down management team I suppose.

EI-DUB

UB is the "flag ship" of the fleet, bearing the name St. Patrick/Padraig. I wonder will the mooted EI-ELA (msn 1106?) due in April take the mantle.

Could EI do well on a LGW BFS route or LGW CDG route ?
Or is their too much competition ?

LGW CDG route ?
Nobody likely ever to do a LGW - CDG route when train is so convenient.

Airline Alliances & Aer Arann rumoured link up...

So the media has been reporting earlier this year that Aer Lingus and Aer Arann will in some way work together, either code share/Aer Arann operate on behalf of Aer Lingus in particular markets/fully fledged franchise. It has also been suggested that Aer Lingus will look to join a Global Airline Alliance Grouping.

2 Questions-
1. Will Aer Lingus announce anything re Aer Arann prior to March 28th when the new season starts? I would have imagined that this would come quick enough given that they already do some interlining and ticketing arrangements on Dublin Cork for TA connections and the fact that Aer Lingus need to improve their situation.
2. The second probably more debatable issue is will Aer Lingus join an alliance and if so will OneWorld be the natural Choice? One would expect but what about Star or Skyteam?

Star-
Would the link with United pave the way for Star Alliance? Working with Lufthansa via Frankfurt (now given the reduced capacity on Dublin London Heathrow means not as dependent on BA for connections via LHR, although realise ex ORK and SNN they do need this more)
And Sas (who they dont compete with on CPH anymore?) could be good for some of Sas' longer routes?

Besides all this Aer Lingus could well maintain their relationship with BA for connections at LHR while at the same time joining Star. I would imagine One World would be the 1st call and Skyteam not likely to be a credible choice, with the importance of Cityjet on the main Dublin France route oppossite Aer Lingus. Any thoughts or comments? SAA joined Star some time back and I think the commentary was in the media that OneWorld would have been a better match for them?

Aer Lingus are joining Star Alliance from 28th of March 2010. First signs of this alliance are already visible with the announcement by BMI of a reduction in services to LHR. Aer Lingus Business Class to be introduced on LHR and Key short haul business routes from March 2010 also.

Aer Arann are operating a franchise agreement with Aer Lingus from March 2010 on current UK routes from Dublin except LHR & LGW. A new route to Newcastle will also be operated under this agreement. 3 Aer Arrann ATR-72 aircraft will be dediicated to the operation. Some details are still to be finalised but contracts have been exchanged. This will free up 2 Airbus 320 units from the summer schedule which are planned to be redeployed.

An announcement will be made within the next week or so.

Aer Lingus are joining Star Alliance from 28th of March 2010.
This is huge news!!! The time frame seems rather short though.
Star Alliance will permit code sharing with BMI, Lufthansa, Swiss, brussels airlines, Air New Zealand, Continental, US Airways, TAP, Air Canada, SAS, LOT etc.

But will this jeopardise the current code shares with British Airways and KLM?

Is there a spare A330 at the moment? Like -DUB? BA seemed to able to find a 744 to do a ferry flight to Haiti. Any chance Herr Mueller would do the same? How did the Irish reps get to Haiti?
A bit late perhaps, but Aer Lingus will have a special flight from Dublin to the Dominican Republic tomorrow, carrying GOAL volunteers and aid supplies.

Aer Lingus Business Class to be introduced on LHR and Key short haul business routes from March 2010 also
By bringing back business class is just reversing what Willie Walsh abolished. He abolished it for a very good reason too. This is counter productive. Looks like Mueller is getting it ready to hand over control to the lufthansa. Would rather see EI be run by MOL than lufthansa. I wonder how much it will cost EI to join Star. This will add costs and put EI back into the GDS systems. Be interesting to see what MOL will have to say about this. Would rather it had been Oneworld.
