It's something done by several airlines around the world - BA, Iberia and Lufty among them. I don't see any harm in it; it's kind of hard to argue that two letters on the tail somehow clash with an airline's branding.

Incidentally, EI-CPC is being flown to Bordeaux today for refitting and repainting, for onward delivery to Ural Airlines; possibly other A321s will follow suit?

EI Tail registrations

Spotters are always happy to see part of the registration on the tail as it makes tying up easier when the aircraft is parked at the gate and surrounded by vehicles, air bridges etc - I have tied many up this way over the years

i see there's an extra flight out to JFK today EI2107 from DUB, wonder is it titan operated B763 or is it EI metal.

Edited - i see it was operated by the B763 - must have been the Titan Aircraft

As a very frequent flier I would love for EI to tie up with the *A or ST but for the moment they don't so I drive to Dublin from Ennis and fly with LH or AF. Anyway way the new Premier on EI is very disappointing all because you cannot sleep on the new "nearly lie flat bed".
It seems that a decision is still a little way off. Although, with an overhaul of the GC program currently live, I'd expect more significant developments inside of 6-9 months in relation to an alliance choice.

You mention the EI C class product. What exactly is wrong with it? 167 degrees is easily obtainable from the seats, often a little more. Yes, there is a lack of floor space when the seat is in the full lie-flat mode but that's to be expected.

I think the product is excellent overall. Coupled with great crews I've found the product to be excellent to exceptional during every C class TA flight with EI inside of the last 24 months.

You mention LH - their own C class product in the main is inferior to EI, with a much reduced lie-flat angle capability on their seats etc.

My only criticism would be the lack of updating of the Music section on the AVOD system. But really, that's being particular beyond all reasonable expectations and even at that, it is updated intermittently.

So overall - I really couldn't fault the product in any way at all.

Regarding the Tail Regs on the EI aircraft - I can't see how they take from the overall colour scheme or branding? They are a bit of a ''shock'' to see at first - but the white colouring correlates well with the overall colour scheme I think.

Whats the big deal about the registration on the tail? Its not "huge" writing and as already said, it blends in with the EI paint scheme.. unless your examining the paintwork from top to bottom, your not going to easily notice it..

Just a few little notes on EI fleet developments:

The new Aer Lingus A320s being delivered next year will be in the EI-DVK-N sequence. The third of these, EI-DVM, for delivery in April, will carry the retro livery.

Two more A321s will leave the fleet next year:

... and EI-CPF in April: JetPhotos.Net Photo » EI-CPF (CN: 991) Aer Lingus Airbus A321-211 by John Fitzpatrick

No word yet on the other three.

What is the decision on removing the 321's from the fleet? I would have thought that the 321 is perfect for high density routes like LHR. are the remaining 320's all the same config?

I know I will get shot down, but keep the 321's and reconfigure for operations from SNN to BOS or something like that, in the exact same way that US, AA or CO have used a 757 on thinner routes. Tell me again, why thats not doable?

I too question the disposal of the A321s. Perhaps EI want to get rid of the older leased A321 with an eye to replacing them in the medium term future. Most other A320 family operators operate several variants. The A321 arrived initially in 1998 so perhaps MX issues were a factor in this.

As for using the A321 on TATL ops.....I don't think the A321 can be used as successfully as the B757 for this. I am under the impression the A321 would be a lot tighter on range. The proposed A321 NEO will address this gap in capability.

As regards the reg on the tail: Lots of airlines do this. It makes airfield ops easier if you can spot the reg amongst a cluster of EI tails. Previously EI had the reg on the nosewheel cover and under tha back door. Both locations can be hard to see if their are 5-6 shamrocks parked up beside each other. Flickr has a few pics of multiple EI tails to illustrate the point. and using white is more in keeping with the livery than the black used by airlines with no black in their livery.

With a revenue payload, they would drop out of the sky before getting there. Isn't that a splendid reason? Now I enjoy risk as much as the next man however.....

EI still have chartered some Titan Aircraft. Their B752 is operating the DUB - MAD EI594 service at the moment. See it on Casper. Still must be some backlog and then with the first A321 away, they must still need the extra capacity

I agree that it's disappointing to see EI contracting rather than expanding. 321's ideal for LHR routes where there isn't a hope of extra slots for years into the future.

EI are contracting in terms of the size of aircraft, ie 321 to 320, however theyre disposing of 3 321's as theyre the leased aircraft out of the fleet of 6, and replacing them with 4 A320's. Having a standard fleet of 320's is easier for crewing/catering apparently. However, 321's are utilised perfectly on LHR and other busy routes.

The new 321 with improved range would be ideal for SNN-USA and additional frequencies from DUB to build a hub, as they have spoken of.

And the Titan aircraft are operating as EI are chronically short of crew

ESOT

I see where EI have bought out the staff value in their ESOT shares
This means that the 5000 staff actually have the shares in their possession and are free to sell them. Up to this the shares were held in trust and the staff could not get them.

While EI could always count on the support of the ESOT shares during takeover attempts, I am not so sure this will happen from now on.
A windfall of several thousand euro(16000)? to each staff member will be accepted now by some staff with pressing needs.

If I had any(and I dont) I would be happy to hold them for a potential larger profit in the future.

I wonder how MOL feels about it all?

I've been wondering about this too! Really is a disgrace that T2 still isn't being utilised!

Tuesday Jan 11 will see all Heathrow flights moved over

One week later in Jan 18, Gatwick flights will move,

and one further week later on the 25th Jan, all short haul EI flights will have moved.

Still nothing for the Transatlantic flights, or DL, CO/UA, or US. AA we know will start back at T2 when flights resume in April.

Giving everyone involved the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they decided a BA/BAA style terminal switch over might be a tad embarrassing.
