Ah, you're right, my mistake.
I didn't realise it was reduced at the weekends.
Works out at 81% then (104 rotations in August). Still good loads. I'm sure we'll see an increase with the better timings in the new winter schedule as well.

At the time of the results being issued, the airline said its Shannon- New York service “remains under review”. The Government is thought to view the route as important, however, possibly leading Aer Lingus to suggest a compromise that would see some Dublin-New York flights stopping at Shannon.
Might it not be more cost effective (and less disruptive to DUB pax, unless they decide to actually use the SNN clearance facilities on a stop over) to just wet lease a couple of US based 757's, spay them green, use Irish cabin crew and flying them JFK-SNN. The could potentially even run the odd W pattern into Cork and Belfast.

If that nonsense starts all over again their T/A aircraft will be even emptier!!
The Government should (thinks of a nice word) buzz off.

Correct me if I have heard it wrong but are not Delta and U S Airways returning to snn again next March so there ought to be no shortage of connections to get snn passengers to the New York area even if the U S Airways pax have to go via PHL. It also goes a long way to show that the 757 is the job for a lot of U S East Coast to Ireland services? Whether the market turns quickly enough for EI to consider acquiring a few used higher maintenance 757s or not how about the idea of a small number of new 737-900ERs? Could well be a part of a solution to keep EI long haul in snn? I am sure Boeing would do a deal in order to get a former valued customer back on the books?

They might then come to Cork too but I guess that is my wishful thinking!

Well, EI is currently staffed towards an all Airbus fleet (maint, flight crew and cabin crew).

Wet leasing a cost effective, mid sized narrow body (paying for someone else to provide the ac, flight deck and maint) that can operate TA to New York and/or Boston at a profit rather than running a half full 330 (or dumber still, bouncing the 330's around two or more airports before jumping the pond) would seem to me to be an option.

Perhaps it would free up one or two 330's for other routes while maintaining (hopefully profitably) existing TA routes (but that's just my speculation/musing). It might also allow T3 to get his wish and a service from Cork or maybe even Belfast.

Buying in one or two non Airbus AC makes little sense with the resultant staff training costs, especially if it all goes very wrong and the route traffic collapses.

Yes it will run into opposition from the unions. But EI needs to not only drop legacy work practices, but also legacy management though practices.

Wednesday D-Day

The New CX is to meet all the EI staff to-morrow in a series of meetings from 0800-2200. I would be very worried if I worked there.

How many of these 676 are likely to be pilot jobs? Hopefully not too many. Any news on how the operation is going in Gatwick?

Knowing the management all 676 will be pilots.
Only next week will they realise that they needed them to fly the planes!

SIPTU are just adopting a bargaining position, as are Aer Lingus.

How many of the SIPTU members would be earning more than €35,000 and liable for a pay cut anyway?

Does this mean that the ground handling will be going independent? eg to servisair or a similar independent company?

My guess is that it will go independent in Cork and Shannon, but that they'll keep it in house in Dublin.

Unions lacked the brains to do something about this a long time ago by coming up with suggestions to help.

unions

Racedo, would these be the same Unions that delivered €15m in savings from Cabin Crew alone last December?
