So if things haven't been finalised between the airline and LBIA how are you privy to this information out of curiosity.

The train line exits the bramhope tunnel about 2km away and about 50m lower than the airport by my reckoning - that is 1:40 which should be fine. If you need to save the train a bit of strain, put the track in a cutting at the airport end and terminate it in the car park (which is a lot lower at least at the LS end). Probably 10m height saved at least that way.

Then run covered escalator / travelator to the terminal. That could also get rid of the daft little buses that always look too much hassle to bother catching to the LS car park (until you've walked halfway to the car and remembered that it is quite a long car park after all...).

I wonder if lba will achieve 3 million passangers this year ie 1st jan-31 dec, what with the credit crunch and fuel increases this will have had an effect on the figures.

All staff have known about this over at the PIA side for a while. Even pre-Shaheen withdrawal announcement. Told to keep schtum.

PIA

Was known by Midland Asian speciality travel agents even down to the days as per previous post.

Good move by PIA and I am sure it will be a winner. It gives a good UK covering, LHR, BHX,MAN,GLA and LBA.

Not a serious airport

LBA has come a long way since dodgy Dennison but, unless you or your family are Pakistani or Kashmiri, the apparent excitement about 2 rotations a week to Islamabrad is sad or, in airport terms, rather insignificant.
Regional services are still 'patchy' i.e. often not daily or impossible to day-trip and, apart from JET2 to some common holiday destinations, the international services are pathetic. I cannot see any prospect of improvement with Man & Robin Hood stealing a major part of the traffic from the populous parts of Yorkshire. Unsurprising, when LBA services and transport links are a joke.

A bit harsh!

For an airport the size of LBA,I think a twice weekly widebody long haul service is a bit of a coup!.Who knows if this Islamabad route proves popular,it may lead to increase in frequency or other destinations in Pakistan.

I think the choice of destinations from LBA has dramatically improved over the last few years.

I live in Leeds and like to support my local airport,am flying to Dusseldorf next month and Ibiza in Sept from LBA.However I have flown from Liverpool,Ryanair to Riga,Easyjet to Madrid and Palma,Doncaster to Gdansk because these options weren't available from LBA,I'm sure many other Yorkshire folk do the same.

Lets wait and see what the new ownership of LBA brings in terms of new airlines and destinations.

I love posts like this one.

Can I just add that not only is my airport better than your airport, but my Dad is also considerably harder than yours.

also BRS (and NQY/PLH) and IOM, and slightly further afield AMS, DUB, BRU and CDG - all possibly to 'day trip'.

Infact, domestically I can only think of EXT and INV which cannot be done in a day.

I think LBA does fairly well considering all the bad points. (don't get me wrong they need to be addressed, then the skies the limit). maybe thats why nothing seems to be done actually, because LBA continues to grow and prosper without spending any money addressing them

The service is confirmed. It is normal for the LBIA website to be somewhat slow in response.

As usual they are flippin' useless!,you would think they would want to shout good news from the top of the tower. The only way to find out anything is via this forum.Great to see a proper airline coming to do the Islamabad after the farce that was Shaheen.I am sure it will be a big success, and will hopefully lead to additional rotations, and maybe Lahore?

Calling Shaheen a farce is a bit strong. Certainly there were learning points and teething problems but they certainly proved that the demand is there, and valuable lessons were learned by all concerned about operating in a different league. Personally I think they did far more good than harm, and let's hope PIA are serious about developing the market.

Also, DSA is hardly stealing traffic; it's a ghost town in comparison.

We're Leeds and we're proud of it.

Day Tripper

20 years ago, you could day trip to LGW, CDW and, OK it's 'foreign', DUB, in addition to all the domestic routes quoted above.
Since then, LBA has come a long way, in a backward direction !

Think Shaheen were just 'testing' the water, And PIA watching in anticipation.

I have always said, This has come 15 years too late.

PIA could have done all this years ago, But never went the extra mile.

Maybe it was again down to the LBA management's 'non' negotiating procedure that has always stopped it from expansion??

I remember when EZY wanted to base 4 733's at LBA back in 1996, And the LBA management would not negotiate a deal.

I just hope PIA are here to stay the course.??
