extra flight to Southampton and Aberdenn
Yorkshire Travellers Benefit From Additional Services
1 February 2008
UK regional airline, Eastern Airways will provide Yorkshire business travellers with even greater choice of services to the south coast of England and north east Scotland by offering more flights from Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA) to Southampton and Aberdeen.
The Humberside based independent operator, which is one of the UK’s most punctual scheduled airlines*, will increase Leeds Bradford services from three to four flights each weekday to Southampton and from three to four flights each weekday to Aberdeen from 3 March 2008 to meet demand.
Southampton is steeped in maritime history with a world class port for cruise liners and has strong business links with the north east, particularly in the petrochemical, pharmaceutical, finance, insurance, automotive, manufacturing and construction industries. Aberdeen is Europe’s energy capital with the buoyant offshore oil industry.
Chris Holliday, Eastern Airways’ Chief Operating Officer, said: “We are offering the best business led schedules to Southampton and Aberdeen from Leeds Bradford providing Yorkshire business travellers with greater flexibility and choice of services to help them maximise their day visits. Seat capacity will be increased by up to 33% and our convenient flights save business travellers valuable time as they are significantly quicker than road or rail alternatives.”

Fascinating posts
Great posts over the last few days (ils32, a320fan, skyman, amongst others)- sorry i was too busy to get involved. Firstly to the person who says we should not get like football fans over our respective airports - why not? - it is called passion. Look what liverpool was doing a few years ago - nothing. I've watched friendships and 748s not too long ago at yeadon and every passenger we stop crossing the 'boarder' nowadays makes me chuffed. Support Yorkshire and its airport and be rightfully proud. As for jet2 they are always top notch when i fly with them and i will always encourage people to fly with them - even if their fairs are a tiny bit more than toms unrealistic (we are struggling fairs)[100 uk shops to close]. 36 destinations from leeds. Their website is even better than any other airline after just a few years. The bottom line is that they are top of the league and should be whole heartedly supported. The destination list will hit 40 then 50 within the next few years.
I too am torn as to whether to allow another low cost at the airport. Look at some of the destinations that are served from the new bristol base. I really think ryanair can be successful and yet not impact too much on jet2s LBA growth. It is better not to have all your eggs in one basket - even though each basket is very safe.
Regards,

easyjet to LBA, they are doing a pretty good job at GLA against GSM, pushing them into expensive long haul markets leaving them with a "?" for a future...do the same at LBA against Jet2 and remove the UK with these awful airlines "playing" at IT/Lo Co...
Leave the UK with a quality low cost airline brand with a huge european name...whether you spotters like it or not...Jet2 has a cloudy future...

easy jet are in serious trouble!
I can understand your post but you should not be on the leeds thread. I predict easy will have fiscal problems within the next 18 months. Ask the banks (and ryanair). Jet2 do not owe.

And which huge european branded lo-co with 'quality' would that be?
Remove the competition, and what are you left with ? higher fares, less of a service than their already is, and considerably less choice of airports to choose to fly from, not to mention the job losses, should Jet2,GSM , easy, or any other airline go under, theres always someone out there looking and thinking they, can do a better job and start up a new one. Jet2 i think will survive as they always seem to be changing or evolving their service, Just look at how easy(especialy) are pushing a flight/hotel combo now. ryuan have been at the forefront of gettin pax on seat thru cheap flights, and should be applauded for that, although some of the pax leave lot to be desired like...lol but thats a whole different thread!!!!!!!!

Dare I say, that when carriers start to divert too far from the reason that made them successful at the start, this is when things can go badly wrong. Happy to be corrected if wrong but I had heard that Thomsonfly reported to have lost close to Ł25million in the last financial year. There is alot of capacity within the UK tour operators at present so I'm not sure it'd be a game I'd be getting into, but providing they steer clear fo the seat only market then its a good way to guarantee income I suppose. I'm just not sure how sustainable it is over the longer term

Im a 17 year old PPL pilot, training at LBA. I live up the road in Harrogate, LBA is a wonderful Airport, so unique to fly from/to. I'd be bored with somewhere like Liverpool where wind is constantly down the runway, sleezy jet littering the place.
I hope LBA just grows and grows, as a passenger and a pilot from LBA i can't stress how much the people of West and North Yorkshire need.

If you are saying that airlines should stay in their niche, then perhaps Jet2 should still be called Channel Express and have green and white painted aircraft. All companies have to move forward in order to standstill if you understand what I mean. History is full of examples of industries that failed to take advantages of evolving markets.

I'm not saying that airlines shouldn't expand, afterall you have to in order to survive in the market place.
What I find odd is that Jet2 are approaching a market (charter) which is currently experiencing significant consolodation. If they believe that there is a gap in the market for what they offer then good on them. I'm not saying that they are wrong to do so, but you need to have a 'unique selling point' that is significant enough to make people fly with you rather than your competition. I'm just not sure that Jet2 have this.
Discovering that 'USP' is always fraught with danger as it is very much trial and error at first. I'd like to think that Jet2 are already heading in the right direction with the 757 and developing routes further afield to TFS, LPA etc and to the Greek Islands etc. Lets hope that this is profitable for them going forward. If it isn't then they could be caught out!

Yes, the charter market has had major consolidation but how many companies are selling truly 'dynamic' packages? I mean Thomson/Thomas Cook are gearing themselves to win back the traditional package, however Jet2Holidays are doing the opposite. Which for a lot of people is just making the whole loco airline even more simple. Before you had to book your flight, hotel, car seperatley for the duration you wanti i.e or book a 7 night package. Why not combine the bset of both worlds? I guess someone at Jet2 has the same idea I do, or I guess they wouldnt have spend millions on setting Jet2Holidays up?
I also believe that Jet2Holidays has another good USP, and that is their main slogan "The whole package for less." They are incredibly good value holidays compared to the mainstream tour ops. I fear the only problem Jet2Holidays will come across is exposure. If you say 'Airtours' to most people they associate them with package holidays whereas if you say 'Jet2' they associate with an airline. I feel for Jet2Holidays to be truly successful and profitable they should maybe think of offering all their destinations. They could really make good use of 'empty' seats.
I guess only time will tell what happens!

A320fan - not sure Jet2 holidays has the USP you mention, I can for example go into a high street travel agent state I want to go to NICE for 2 days and they will book my loco flight and a hotel. And the chances are my local TA will have access to a much wider choice of hotel.
As you say though time will tell if this side of the business proves successful.
