Come on Otto,
A bit of reminiscing doesn't do any harm...sounds like our past had a lot more diversity than the present. Today at BFS, I saw A320s and 737s...a bit humdrum!

You have to get up a bit earlier..we also had a NPT Electra (went off 25 like a rocket), a SSV 757 and a TOM 738 hows that for diversity

I drove around BFS today, by the west side of the hotel. I saw EZY, JET2 tails parked beyond the international pier nosed in to a grey coloured pier. Is this a temporary pier, for work being carried out elsewhere. Its very difficult to see whats going on up there, as the gallery is closed and unless you are flying, you aint got a hope.

When I came to live in Northern Ireland as a child there was no BHD and we used to fly from Aldergrove to Glasgow on Viscounts.
Viscounts also flew to Manchester and the Heathrow service was operated mainly by Vanguards.
One set of grandparents came to live in Northern Ireland with us and I can remember seeing them off on a Vanguard as they went to visit family members in London.
At that time people could still access the roof terrace built above the walkway which provided access to the departure gates.
As a treat we then had dinner in the waiter service restaurant which I believe was called 'The Aldergrove Grill'.
The terminal was much smaller then. The restaurant looked out over the tarmac and was located roughly where the central security check is now.
My first experience of jet travel came when Tridents were introduced on the Heathrow service and BAC 1-11's on the Manchester route.
My first widebody experience was indeed the Tristars which BA used between BFS and LHR for a time.
As I remember we were given a fold up leaflet with a cutaway plan of the aircraft showing where the toilets etc were.
For a number of years you could only access the terminal if you were travelling which involved queueing up in a series of huts and having your luggage taken to bits and put back together again before you could even get to check-in.
After an attempt to bomb an aircraft en route from BFS to LHR passengers had to give up their hand baggage at the gate where it was put into strong polythene bags.
You then reclaimed it after disembarking at the destination airport.
Then, of course, you had to run the gauntlet of the detectives who met every flight from Belfast at every mainland UK airport.
BHD opened and the Viscounts, Vanguards, Tridents and 1-11's disappeared to be replaced by ATP's, Boeing 757's, 737's, A321's, A320's, A319's, and various makes of Dash.
However, the detectives remained a permanent feature until very recently as did the attitude displayed towards people travelling to and from Northern Ireland.
My parents and sister moved back to the North West of England and I travelled through Manchester frequently with Mrs. Frequent Flyer first as my fiancee and then as my wife.
Only a few years ago as we entered the Causeway Lounge at Gate 3 one of the detectives insisted on seeing our boarding cards.
He peered at them, looked at us over his glasses and said: "And what were you two doing over here?"
Remember, we were a married couple in our early 40's but he sounded as if he was addressing a couple of primary school children found somewhere they shouldn't be.
As usual I bit my tongue and explained we had been visiting my parents.
Let's hope those days are over for good.

That Electra is usually parked in cargo, but for some reason it was on stand 9, it usually doesnt take off during the day.. so it must have been tech or something like that.. unless it was chartered for an extra cargo flight
Gate 22, its not a temporary pier, but it does look like it from the inside and outside.. there is also talk of extending it further down into the cargo end, and create a new cargo apron... but plans no doubt have changed... the actual desk for tickets to be scanned is in the same block as gates 21-27, but its 1 hell of a walk... usually A/C are put there if they wont be moving until later that day, although the Jet2 that you saw was more than likely their cargo plane that does mail runs
was defo a day which saw a wide variety of a/c at BFS.. but like BelHold says if you want to see different a/c then get up earlier or later in the evening..

Very much doubt it with the restricted operating hours. Many TCX flights arrive back in Belfast late, off the top of my head, Heraklion, Larnaca, Girona, all late night / early hours of the morning arrivals.
Also with the peak season flights they do to Cancun, Dominican Republic, and season long Sanford; wouldn't make sense to split the operation I would've thought. Economies of scale and all that, tour operators desks etc...
Where'd you hear the rumour???
As I stated in earlier post, think FlyBE may be doing a peak season Saturday run to Reus, for Thomson, so as an airport for extra capacity maybe, but moving all operations to BHD, would severly doubt it!!!

There is no smoke without fire with rumours.
Perhaps.....but it might be a way to squeeze a few quid out of the contract they have with BFS...discount ..or we move.
Anyways it couldn't possibly be true or else ALLMCC would be on here trumpeting it.
