BFS Viewing closed

I too noticed the Viewing gallery closed recently.

However my brief investigation indicated that the access to the gallery was through an area where some sort of minor construction was taking place.
So the reason is Health and Safety, not the aforementioned power-crazed security department.
Always happy to be corrected by someone who DOES know the truth.

Gate 22 I agreed with your suggestion that BCA should concentrate their efforts on BD/Luft and BE in order to consolidate.

Investing all this time, effort and money in a longer runway for FR is senseless unless like I have said before, they have some ace up their sleave.

Besides, what vaule does facilitating the expansion of FR in Belfast add? Long term it will only serve to reduce the choice that NI travellers have. Why would anyone want to fly to "Barcelona" with FR when EI and EZY already offer this service to the real Barcelona not Reus or Girona.

Just to add to a previous post about FR and cattle class. Only on Thuesday 2 friends were due to fly to Liverpool with FR, at the last minute, one decided to bring a case that had not already been paid for before arriving. When they arrived at BCA and attempted to pay the extra for baggage the RYR machine would not connect and bill the friends card. They were told 15 minutes later the flight had closed and they would not be flying (40 mins prior to departure). After complaining to a supervisor they were transferred free of change to the first flight on Friday morning because RYR accepted it was their fault. However this was promptely followed by "the flight is full so we can only put you on standby."

Anyway Friday came and 20 mins before departure I received a txt to say they still hadn't been told they were going to get on the flight. Eventually they got on 15 mins prior to departure and the bag went in the hold. My question, for anyone who knows is, why were FR able to put my friends on a flight on Friday 15 mins before it left when on Thursday they were told no 40 mins prior to departure? Surely putting them on Friday would have caused more delay to the flight than having allowed them on Thursday nights?

We don't need this pathetic level of customer service in Northern Ireland and most certainly not at a primarily business traveller orientated BCA!

EGAC your comments are probably fair enough, however, Flybe do not seem to have any intention of expanding any further at BHD. A couple of years ago Mr Rutter stated that Flybe were considering "selected Continental Destinations". Apart from the seasonal ski flight charters to Chambery, Salzburg & Geneva, all that happened was Paris which was started and withdrawn within the space of 3 months. Since then there have been no new routes apart from the Loganair franchises to DND and IOM (which is yet to start).

So, in a way, BHD can't be blamed for working with Ryanair, for example, Bristol which starts shortly was a route ditched by Flybe a couple of years back and one which there is obviously a demand for. I suspect there will be further new routes from Ryanair even if the runway extension doesn't happen.

As for BMI, it will be interesting to see what happens in the next few months when the Lufthansa influence takes hold. I would be very surprised if there were any new routes from BMI and not at all surprised if there was a significant reduction in the LHR service.

Was Bristol not starting at the cost of a prestwick rotation. Is it not the case that FR cannot really start any other routes because :-
1. The runway length is too short for their operation to continental europe, unless they reduced the seats for sale on each flight.
2. BHD will not let them supersede any other route currently operating there.
3. To cap all this BHD is operating at maximum capacity and will have to cut other operators to let FR get extra flights.

There must be a card up BHD's slieve that allows them to raise the cap after the runway extension. Surely if this is not the case why lose business passengers for the 'rif-raf' who refuse to buy a paper at the airport.

Maybe I am delusional but my understanding of the cap is that it was to sell no more than 2 million seats inbound and 2 milloin seats outbound so in effect a cap of 4 million which everyone was quite happy about as it plenty of room to grow the business. To be honest I`m really quite surprised that we are still talking about it!! Another quiet News day?

CaptJ, i think your right that its down to health and safety, not only because of construction work but the viewing gallery is notorious for leaking when it rains (puddles would actually appear inside...)

It doesn't mean that BHD can carry 4 million passengers per anum, it means it cannot put more than 4 million seats up for sale up. The only way that BHD could carry 4 million passengers per annum, under the current agreement, is if every seat, made available, on every flight was sold, which would be impossible. Last year it went over the allowable.
So how can you grow if you are at the top of the cap?

Servisair handling Jet2, Thomas Cook, Thomson, Star Air, TNT and the vast majority of charter operators, I think Dubrovnik airlines and Eurocypria are with Menzies and Aviance. No change with the TNT as far as I know could be wrong though.

752/763 today?

I know it's sad when I start asking about individual flights, but humour me!

Noticed a larger than normal arrival heading for BFS today around 1pm...looked like it was in the TUI colours, and possibly a 752 or maybe 763?

Anyone confirm? It got me thinking, we probably won't see too many 757s anymore, except maybe the CO daily...

Hi all
Caught a bit of the Aldergrove ATIS yesterday (listening to ATC in prep for PPL RT exams), it said rwy 25 was out of service & 17 was in use.
Any idea why 25 was out of service?
Just curious, heading up there on my next nav flight.

Rwy 25 out of service

Hi madgav,

At around 1500 yesterday, an area on Rwy 25 near Bravo Txy was found to be damaged. A repair was made but it took a while before the runway was allowed back in service.
Runway 17 and 35 were both used during the closure. Apologies to the residents of Crumlin and Antrim for the noise.

"Apologies to the residents of Crumlin and Antrim for the noise."

Especially on behalf of one particular departure that had the Bunnies stop mating and almost made me spill my tea

Wish I could eastern wiseguy, but I live in Newotwnabbey & can't get line of sight. Can hear the a/c on approach though. Work in east Belfast & could just about hear the ATIS there. Other than that I have to make do with listening to BHD

Long time lurker on this thread BTW.
Oh, and no worries about 25, 17/35 should be long enough for the 172
