Security

Does anyone know any facts as to why this is happening?

From the outside it would seem that the airport have failed in one or more key areas:

Training of staff
AMD/x-ray maintenance
Procedural failings

Whatever anyones' views are of the DfT, they would not impose this disruption to the travelling public without real reason/s.

From a laymans view point, I went through NCL security last week and it there were no noticeable differences from before, no noticeable differences from security at LGW or any other I've been through over the last few months.

Devil NCL Security

God, hope NCL doesn't end up like Manchester secrity!

At least you get a 'Good Morning' and a smile from the NCL Secruity Staff.

Manchester are pure evil! (Sorry if that sounds OTT!)

With the expansion and ever increasing ques, would it be worth having a seperate staff secrutity area??

And once thats done, someone can get on and sort out the staff car park!!

Anyone any ideas why a C9 (cirrus air) has just landed on the departure boards?
I would have hoped it would fare better on the runway .

Reference C-GOAF - anyone know what day it got it's hole? I flew into NT on it 2 weeks ago today, and was pleasantly suprised that we arrived 20 minutes EARLY, yup EARLY - and it was XLA!

I see NCL has had the busiest summer on record so far with passenger figures going over the 600,000 mark for two months running;
May 529056 3.5% increase
June 596022 3% up
July 636680 4.2% up
Aug 640387 9.5% up
And September looks to be a good month as well!

Running 12 month total 5702232

Includes transits

CAA web site will give you break down of figures for each destination look for Airport statistics.
I see GSM have further reduced the winter program at MME!

Has anybody thought that BA could launch JFK flights form next summer when they introduce services from the NYC airport to Europe?

I know they will be serving BRU, CDG etc. but a normal layout on a 752 with a daily service to the big apple would surely work?

My view is that given the facilities currently available at NCL and to the extent that they are stretched, then possibly it would make sense if 2008 were to be a year of consolidation. Possibly you should be more concerned with the likely conditions that pax are to suffer if there was to be further growth, rather than in simple numbers

Sorry Brad (and your other screen names) but the airport did not nearly get shut down last week it was merely subject to a DfT five day inspection. In this day and age unfortunately these are a very necessary event! Yes things got disrupted but when the DfT say jump you ask how high! I guess from your posts you seem to have it in for the management at NCL? Did you part company with the airport when JP arrived??

BA - NCL - JFK - possible schedule.

I've just stopped laughing!

...on another note.

I see that the schedule for appointing the new CEO is set for October.
It will be VERY interesting to see who they appoint.

Will DL get the nod?
Watch out for a W(B)S.
and a blindside run form one RH.

I only hope that whoever they appoint gets to grip with some rapid terminal upgrading before the peak time experiences turn passengers off.

Air rage smoker jailed for attack

From the BBC website.

A 53-year-old Darlington man who terrified fellow passengers on board a holiday flight and assaulted an air steward has been jailed for 12 months.

Stephen Robinson clambered over seats to hit his victim after being told to put out a cigarette on the Thomas Cook Turkey to Newcastle flight in March.

He admitted endangering the safety of the aircraft and causing actual bodily harm, at Newcastle Crown Court.

The 53-year-old of Hope Town Lane, forced the plane to be diverted.

The hearing on Friday heard how Robinson clambered over other passengers in his row of seats.

In the melee an airline steward was hit in the face and his teeth were damaged.

The packed Boeing 757, from Antalya to Newcastle, was diverted to Frankfurt, where Robinson was removed from the aeroplane.

Delta announced JFK-EDI months ago when they chopped the ATL. Plus Delta's JFK hub is mainly inbound New York with not that many connections EWR is where you want as a inbound US hub.

Just a quickie. Would it be worth allowing more time to check in for a 0945 dep owing to the recent security inspection or would the usual 2 hrs suffice?

Cheers.

If its an IT I would say min 2hrs, some ask for 3hrs! This would also mean you going through security after the early rush but before the next outbound rush of departures 0930-1030.
