The QC aircraft are very easy to re-roll either way. I watched one in BFS when the concept was new and a pax to cargo re-roll was completed in 11 minutes. The reverse took a little longer as, at that time, a bulkhead partition was put back in and this always took a few minutes longer to assemble than breakdown.

I've also watched the NCL operation, albeit a few years ago when Servisair were handling. Again, done in a few minutes.

its just a shame that the wear and tear in the cabin and on the carpets shows where seats are rolled and rerolled 5 nights a week, carpets stuck down with velcro that dosnt last long.
not to mention the fact that fwd cabin is so loud, its always a bit nippier on QCs and that ramp into the cabin always catchs passengers out (and its a bugger to get a cart up as well!!!)... and if it been raining over night the pax in rows 1-5 on the left will get a little wet as the water gets in the cargo door and comes out of the ceiling on take off... its a tad embarrasing! im suprised the 757s havnt been hacked into QCs yet but if my memory serves me right there is only 1 example of these in service with a french airline. just wish jet2 would stick to using knackered old 737s for freight and mybe try getting some -700s/800s for pax operation (or airbus yippee - id love to work on 319/320)

There is a rumour flashing around the southside that Samson Aviation has changed hands.

Truth?

Shifty,

Thanks.

I would not want to have a GA aircraft based on the SS if the Airport are taking responsibility for AvGas fuel.
I wonder who they will get to run it?

Maybe this is the start of their plans for the SS.
Get rid of the Bellman (about time); refurbish the old terminal/aeroclub as an Exec terminal, build a few more exec hangars and try to attract some high revenue.

I noticed it wasn't available in the Winter Timetable. It had already been reduced from 4 to 3 wkly and loads haven't been too good (CAA figures).

Very disappointing, had been good to see a new operator at NCL

I understand that the Bellman will be gone by the end of the year . Not sure what will be built in its place, or if anything will

Outrageous Parking Charges

Newcastle won't have any routes left as pax will use other airports if they keep screwing passengers on parking. Just paid £35 for 3 days parking in LONG TERM - Absolute disgrace. The 5 minute limit on the drop off is also just pure greed.

I agree and they're even advertising the parking on the radio!!

Someone has to pay for those busses

While i'm in a grumpy mood, when is someone going to sort out those stupid revolving doors. Twice I've had to call secruity to come and open the double doors because passengers have been queing into the baggage hall. I know others have had to do the same too.

Surely, Newcastle must be the only airport that's harder to get out of than get in!!

Can't the airport inform security when pax no's are expected to be high? It only takes two 757 loads and you've potentially got well over 400 people in the baggage hall. That equates to around 390 people who can't use their brain when it comes to guiding themselves and their baggage through a revolving door!!

Alledgedly (), those revolving doors at international arrivals will be removed in the near future, as part of minor works within the terminal building. The airport have never bothered to listen to staff complaints over passengers getting trapped . Surely replacing them would free up the security staff who have to constantly man the doors whenever 1 flight arrives. The are apparantly going to be replaced by air lock sliding doors, which to be honest should have been used originally. I am not sure whether the entrance doors to terminal will remain, as the same problem occurs then. Oh and mostly they are either broken or wedged open, as the "terminal is running to capacity"!

Other works which, again alledgedly, are going to take place is the relocation of the information desk to the old greggs, with the out of gauge security desk being enlarged. Not sure this is required - the space could have been used to add 3/4 extra check in desks.

Oh and does anyone know if the staff are going to get their car park back? Again it would save money on the amount of bus runs, as staff used to walk the short distance?!

Just back from hols today and yes, huge group of pax not able to get out of the baggage hall because of the doors.
Also the queue for passport control had the beginning and end in different postcodes.

On the plus side, and quite amazingly for me, my flights went completely smoothly, so thumbs up for EZY.

Return of viewing facilities.
Dave Laws added: “With our 75th anniversary only two years away, we hope to be able to refurbish the original terminal building and restore it to its former 1930s glory. Our hope is to turn it into a new visitor centre with an outdoor viewing area overlooking the airfield.

“We know there’s been strong demand for this type of facility ever since the viewing gallery in the modern terminal closed in 2003. Hopefully our plans will help us give something back to the local community and will be welcomed by those who wish to come to the airport as visitors and spectators, not just as passengers.”
