The last time the drop off area was moved to the area inside the short term car park people just used the roundabout as they didn't like the long walk.

Its simple really.
Maglev link from Parkway station to the Mid Term Car Park.
Have the drop off area there-plenty of space-dont need to come under the taxiway.
Then Maglev carries on to terminal.
The way the financial world is going ,should get it done for a few million.
All we need is vision!!!!!

Mind you ,thank god the taxis will be moving. So many times they caused the tailbacks-too many licensed me thinks!

The taxi's will remain in their current position, albeit i think all the red and white race track barriers are being replaced with some nice shiny permanent bollards 50+mph safe.. the corrrect distance away from the terminal building so the current drop off zone will be entirely for taxi's and valet meet and greet.

Grrr

If you look at the tunnel with the taxiway above, the 'People mover' was due to fill the third lane (currently redundant) beneath. It was to link the Tinminal and the Parkway.

Passengers arriving by train would have checked in at the Parkway then proceeded to the airport via this transport link.

All were 'cost engineered' out of the project.

What's valet meet and greet and who would run it???

I would have thought that after the terrorist attack on Glasgow airport the town taxi’s would have been kept well away from the terminal.

Perhaps if a bit of extra thought had gone into the original planning of the new Terminal, the old access road could have been left open!!......

The newish ATCO in the tower has an interesting foreign accent! (anyone know where he's from?)

The redevelopment of the Central Terminal Area has to be welcomed, the whole area has been such a mess for ages. The start of works here must surely be an improvement and an enhancement to the customer experience. Let's face it, it can't be any worse....can it?

It will be interesting to see how Joe Public react to any changes. I guess most only come to Luton once a year and as they know where they are going will not look at any signage so will attempt to get into the existing drop off area, which will be controlled by some sort of card entry system.

The last time the airport authority tried to direct drop off traffic away from the terminal they installed railings all the way around the roundabout but that did not stop Mr and Mrs Passenger using the roundabout instead.

So how many flights per week will Wizz have into Luton next summer?

I believe the new ATCO arrived from Bournemouth....Seriously! Mr Bust will know from where he came prior?

On a final note, heard from a reliable source that route expansion at LTN is still very active, surprisingly, with several new routes likely to be confirmed to commence between late March and early May 09. Apparently one in particular, if finally confirmed, would to a destination, one would not normally associate with LTN. The carrier also. Despite persistant hassle of my source, more than that, he would not say

This wouldnt be the much rumoured twice weekly to Canada by any chance?

Wizz

Buster -

Flights for next summer are not yet released. However, going on currently-public information, I have worked out the following:

Increases next year already announced:
Kiev 7 per week From 28.3.09 New destination
Timisoara 3 From 27.10.08 New destination
Bucharest 10 From 1.5.09 Existing route, more flights
Cluj 6 From 1.5.09 Existing route, more flights

Flights being operated this week to other destinations
Bourgas 6 per week
Budapest 10
Gdansk 13
Katowice 13
Poznan 7
Sofia 7
Warsaw 15
Wroclaw 4
Zagreb 4

I make that 102 arrivals per week, and it seems that further expansion is also on the cards.

Wizz

If they operate 102 flights per week, that's a capacity of 1.8 million seats per year! At an 80% load factor, they are carrying 1.45m pax, about 14% of Luton's total, and significantly more than our oldest resident airline Thomson/Thomsonfly/Britannia/Euravia.
Their 102 flights is equivalent to 14.5 arrivals per day, and based on their sector lengths, is the equivalent of 5 based aircraft - more than Ryanair.

Gulp.

Wizz have certainly been good for the airport, both in terms of pax numbers and destinations served, so long may it continue.

My understanding is that, at the present time, two additional new routes are "flagged" to start to LTN during 09, in additional to the Kiev route just announced.

Canadian service?

I would think looking from further afield now that the Canadian flights which are rumoured would probably be operated by a Scottish airline trying to take up the slack from Zoom etc but only guessing. Memories go back to the 1970s when there was a service to Toronto but for only one summer. There also seems to be the odd Thomson/First Choice charter this winter to unusual destinations - all griss to the mill in these challenging times.

Canadian Flights

It was rumoured back in June/July that the company "Canadian Affair" were interested in starting twice weekly Luton-Toronto for S09.

It was thought it would be Air Transat A310s or possibly Thomas Cook 757s operating the route.

If this has progressed further then it is a possibility.

Does anybody know if Thomsonfly will drop the Tel Aviv Flights for S09?
If so i wonder if the airport will try and get another operator as i believe the route has been quite successful.

Great news about Wizz but rumours still circulating about SkyEuropes future
Appears York Capitals has pulled out from investing in the Airline and Bank Rothschild has invited potential bidders to come forward by this Thursday.
Figure being quoted is 70 Mil Euro.

Passing through the airport quickly this morning, it looked like diggers had already started work on what was the disabled car parking area, in the short-term car park. Is this part of the area, destined to become the new coach drop off/pick up. Anyone confirm?

They have already painted the new disabled parking bays, what they are digging at today is the new drop off zone, although by the looks of where they are going to lay the kerbs, the guy with the spray can of yellow paint marking it out must have been drunk!!
