Has Rijeka Survived for Summer 08?
Anyone out there know if the Luton to Rijeka summer route operated by easyJet is coming back this summer?
On the website, Rijeka is showing on the timetable but not to where the flights are operating to/from... The route has operated for the last two years quite successfully.
I was just wondering if the likes of Pisa and Jersey being added to the timetable may have forced the route to be scrapped.

Apologies, just had an update from contact advising the route has been discontinued. (Tried deleting the posting but would not let me?)

Just noticed again a massive delay on the Wizz Bucharest service (10hrs +), same as yesterday and the day before.
Wizz are normally pretty good at timekeeping, so what's the problem?

Be good if the airport operator started to show some real determination to progress matters, in the same way as the local footy team did against Liverpool in the FA Cup, some 3 hours ago. Well done lads.

Where has my 1967 P-51 picture gone mods, I wanted to know more about why a Mustang was Luton based 40 years ago? LTNman probably knows and I bet Vintage remembers it?

Apologies if you already know this info, but typing the reg into Google brings up the following:
The aircraft was owned by a Charles Masefield (now Sir Charles). The aircraft was sold to him in 1966. Further info about him is available on the net.

The reason for posting that image was the same as replying to the 'Where to live around Luton' thread. Both are as relevant or irrelevant and the mods make them? Nostalgia, news, help RRUmoUr....?
I guess 40 years ago a Mustang based at Luton was a normal as wanting to live in the town is today?

Anyway, back to reality.....Access to Luton from the M25 via the M1 is looking really good. Having travelled thought the mire of roadworks recently, once they have been completed, and the access into the airport sorted by the two 'famous Percy Roundabout Builders', Luton will be on par with Stansted.
Sadly the M1 is to be widened North of Jct 10 right up to Milton Keynes over the next 8 years.
2008 will be a tough year for all of the Luton based airlines, REAL inflation bears no resemblance to recent price hikes and wage increases. Buster has been predicting for ages a 'bubble bust', thankfully both easyJet and Ryanair have spread their exposure right across Europe. Jeans and Monarch know their markets, Britannia are re-assessing their, but I predict at least one major failure, hopefully with no Luton damage.
Folk have borrowed heavily and now they cannot lump it on their mortgage, so multiple trips abroad will be reduced. Will the BoE reduce interest rates enough to stimulate demand this year, will Oil move well above $100 a barrel? Key factors affecting Luton and every other airport.
The growth of the number of flights flying through UK airspace is also contracting for the first time in ages!

The P-51 was briefly owned by Mike Keegan (Of Trans Meridian/British Air Ferries fame / and he was also the K in BKS). He had it repainted at Luton if I remember correctly.? I recollect meeting a guy who was involved in the painting.
It was I think also involved in an accident at one of the Biggin Hill air shows when a parachutist landed nearby and got entangled in the moving prop-not sure of the outcome now-as the memory is fading fast!

The proposed services by Shaheen to Leeds have now appeared on the Leeds Airport website, with a link to a Luton-based travel agent. This agent specifies flights from "Luton & Stansted to Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, Leeds and Birmingham to Islamabad and Lahore, Glasgow to Faisalabad". Still nothing on Luton Airport's website.
According to Wikipedia (clutching at straws here) the Luton services start on 30th March.
Does anyone know the current situation? If all of the above flights come to fruition, the two A310s leased from Turkish carrier Saga Airlines are going to be busy!

JET aircraft are causing a nuisance to residents in Stevenage.
Planes flying into London Luton Airport have been waking people up in the early hours of the morning.
On Sunday, Keith White of Lonsdale Road said that planes were flying over his house every three minutes until 3am.
He said: "This always happens after a holiday period and as a result my family gets very little sleep.
"There's a continuous stream of planes every day but not usually at night because they are supposed to have a ban on night flying over Stevenage after 11pm. But it seems as if this is being ignored.
"I'm a physicist and I know that aircraft can go over the countryside and turn much later. There's 10 miles between us and Luton so they could turn five to seven miles from Luton so they don't have to come over Stevenage."
A spokesman for the environment department at Luton Airport said: "The airport has a 24-hour licence to fly into the airport. We have checked our monitoring system and can find no unusual flight activity that night to account for increased aircraft noise disturbance in the Stevenage area.
"The period in question coincided with westerly operations when Luton arrivals were on final approach over the Stevenage area, but this is not unusual and occurs on average 70 per cent of the time.
"One possible reason, however, may have been weather conditions on Sunday night. Our meteorological database identifies very strong winds from a westerly direction, with gusts up to 35mph with low cloud cover. This may well have exacerbated noise levels from airport operations in that area."
l Anyone with concerns relating to aircraft activity should contact the airfield environment office so that it can carry out a full investigation.

Amazing how many of these "experts" there are nowadays. Makes you wonder how the industry managed before these people were available to help out...

I remember the P51 well. If my memory is right, there was a US-reg. B25 Mitchell around for quite a few months in 1966-67 as well, painted red and green. I've also got vague memories of a Douglas A-26 Invader around this time as well, used as an exec. transport believe it or not. Lucky suits, they must have been deafened by those massive P & W R2800's roaring away inches from the fuselage.
On a different topic,is LTN still the busiest airport in Europe for foreign-reg. business jets. Just wondered because on my last visit there could have been around 50 on the ground, not counting those inside the hangars.
