Danube Wings cancel all UK flights.
Taken from their website.......
Danube Wings upon agreement with Czech Airlines will terminate lease of their plane with crew starting 7. March 2010. Flights in March and April are definitely cancelled. We expect that all the other flights to Great Britain and republic in Ireland during summer season will be cancelled as well.
We apologize to all the customers from cancelled flights for inconvenience. Please follow the instructions in the Danube Wings email of February 24th. If you bought ticket to any of the cancelled destinations and you did not receive our email, please contact us on the address ......
The reasons why Danube Wings decided to revise the flight schedule were high investment costs of operations in the Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland. This decision is closely connected with allocation of company sources towards summer flight schedule 2010.

Sad news but they have probably realised what they had taken on-leasing costs etc.They are after all a small regional airline.
The summer rotations for the leased 737 appeared only to be to Luton and Dublin (4 flights a week in total i think) as Manchester had been dropped, so what was planned for the remaining days we will never know.
I wonder if Wizz might consider taking up the route as loads appeared good when Sky Europe were flying to Tatry.

Funding for Guided Busway approved
Transport Minister Sadiq Khan announced an £80 million government funding package for the new Luton Dunstable Busway at Luton Train Station this morning.
On a flying visit to the town, the minister confirmed the investment which will pave the way for a 'guided busway' which will cover a seven mile stretch from Houghton Regis to Luton Airport.
He said: "When completed, this scheme will benefit the entire community by easing congestion and encouraging greater integration between services."
Following further detailed design work, the main construction of the busway is due to start in December with completion of the project due for April 2012.

£80 million on something that the locals do not want. It is okay saying it will link Houghton - Dunstable - Luton - Luton airport, but you can only get on/off at designated stops. Even though it would pass within yards of my previous house, I would have needed to walk an additional 20 minutes to get on it. Having taken that into consideration, why bother, go by car.
What this Government is busy doing is announcing new spending in marginal seats, to give them a chance of winning the election. If Luton wasn't marginal, or there was no election round the corner, this project would not have been announced.

Exactly, no local wants this, a complete waste of public money.
Don't suppose they would ever commit monies in real projects i.e. A505 road around airport south boundary so that there was great access from M1 to A1M.....which would open up incentives for more companies to relocate/locate and generate more jobs....

Difficult to see what could be done about the gradient given the level of the original 'main' apron and the levels of the north apron and twy D. Silly place to put an airport but I don't suppose they thought much about it in 1936.

What is a balls up is the service road under the terminal. Lorries with trailers can't turn around in the tunnel so only small lorries can deliver to the shops if they use the service road.

I don't know the truth of such rumour, but I heard that the slope was actualy outside the limits stipulated - specific dispensation had to be sought for use.
Most/many airports are building sites, it's the nature of the beast.

I think a history lesson here, Luton has been prevented, since the 70s by successive Government interference of the councils spending thus preventing the required capital investment.....correct me if I'm wrong. SASKATOON9999, being LTN based for a good number of years you should know this.
The council has made mistakes and I'm sure will do again in the future.
We all have to use/work and function with what we have, I think this is true, more so in the current climate or any job at the moment.

Could not agree with you more Pabely. Went through the arport last Thursday morning on the way back to Spain and found the airport reasonably busy for a Thursday in early March - no queue at security and pleasant staff.
As for Saskatoon is the word camparison a play on words regarding Heathrow or a lapse in the art of spelling!

February Figures
Figures for February have just been published and show that 554,912 passengers used the airport during the month a rise of 1.1 per cent on 12 months ago. The rolling 12 month figure of 9,078,235 shows a decline of 8.6 per cent. Air Transport movements for February were 4,710 an increase of 1.1 per cent on the corresponding period last year. A quick look at the figures and it seems that Luton is still holding on to fifth place in the number of passengers using UK airports. Any comments would be useful please.
