Then Ocean Sky arrived and a Controlled Zone reappeared, making life difficult for anyone else needing to go to the South Stands.
So how come the 150 passengers are fine there, but the 6 crew and one Menzies chap all have to go through security again to get to customs?

Are passengers exempt from the security rules at LTN? And the bus drivers?

All very odd...

Are; South Stands, and if you went via the Signature area then you would have been outside customs area and have to pass full security again.
I think when Harrods was in this area then it had full Security Gate but since Ocean Sky does not have one, you have to route all round airport. Any based ground crews confirm?

Pabley, yes you are correct. As we parked on the south stands we had to be taken from the aircraft through security again before we could go home. But the passengers didn't.

If I remember correctly, back in the days of Harrods on the South Stands .....
Security would attend any live a/c needing to park there to ensure nothing untoward happened, and therefore everyone could go straight back into the Restricted area.

Quite what was achieved by the experience HPP had to go through is beyond me.

HPP, perhaps Menzies can query why, with Luton Ops for you?

Dec Pax & 2009

Source: CAA

December 2009 564726 -11.7%

2009: 9116057 - 10.4%

For interest BHX 547511 - 8.3% & 2009 9093787
EDI 580211 - 4.4% & 2009 904402 +0.6

BHX was dismal considering few diversions away compared to Jan 2010.

EDI I assume suffered due flyglobespan and weather cancellations as
they had two extra Ryanair based units compared to December 08.

Pete,

Interesting figures. The battle for fifth place is hotting up! Luton will suffer badly in January due to lengthy snow closures and few inbound diversions. Summer 2010 will be difficult for Luton as EasyJet cut back, but Wizz grow (hopefully). Birmingham will suffer the loss of Baby flights and EDI has lost FGS.

? December Figures

Interesting figures indeed. Just quickly looking at the individual destination figures I see that the Danube Wings Tatry/Poprad service do not seem to have been included and also I think there was a couple of flights to Ovda in December operated by Sun D´Or which would probably add another 2,500 or so pax - maybe somebody could confirm please.

Yes it seems all three are suffering in their own way.

Some of BHX's business routes are showing signs of life
although today BMI Baby have removed BHX - GLA from
sale as of 28/10/2010 and in the last few days Ryanair
have reduced frequencies on BHX - PRG/KRK/KTW/LDY &
NRN for summer 2010.

The outlook for the rest of 2010 at BHX is grim.

New Services

Blue Air are moving their four times weekly service to Sibiu and daily flight to Bucharest to Luton from London Stansted from the start of the summer timetable (end of March).
Also strong rumour Wizz are to commence services to Belgrade in the not too distant future.

Will be interesting to see how Blue Air will do competing directly with the Wizzair to Bucharest...

Seems like BlueAir are switching their whole programme from STN to LTN, which is a bit of a coup!

The Thessalonika service does not seem to be continuing from STN after March, so I wonder if this will be switched or if they are discontinuiong this service altogether?

The frequencies to Sibiu and Bucharest have also been increased compared to them operating at STN.

Signature at Luton & Border Control

Looks like a way in enhancing the 24 hour facilities for VVIP's.

Private jet passengers at Luton have been recently forced to queue in the terminal with the great unwashed. This put Luton at a disadvantage to other airports where they were given special treatment.

Summer Schedule

Just had a look at Ryanairs summer schedule for July.
Interestingly Dublin is only twice a day now with early morning and late night departures on Mon-Thurs.
Friday and Sunday still have three.

As the Kerry(Tue/Thur/Sat) and Trapani Flights are by non LTN based a/c will we see RYR add new/old destinations or will it be wishful thinking on my half?

Ryanair

Look out for Bratislava.

Not surprised by Dublin, the Irish economy is in trouble, FR are reducing at DUB, and the euro is too high.

So what is the state of play with Harrods & Ocean Sky?
In late September Harrods became the only FPO at Luton to regain immigration staff within their building putting them at an advantage to other Luton FPO's

Premjet

Seems according to their website flights from Manchester have now been dropped from their schedule but Luton is still listed as their primary base.
Not much else has happened to the site ,big question is will it still happen!!

Ryanairs schedule for the summer appears to leave slots for a 2.5-3 hr rotation-dont think Bratislava fits in but maybe wrong. How about French destinations or maybe Cork??
