Transavia Move To Gatwick
I see the move from Luton to Gatwick of the Transavia operation to Rotterdam does not seem to be a success at the moment with over 500 less passengers not using the service to Gatwick than Luton 12 months ago.

The positive year-on-year figures for February end a run of 15 straight months of negative results, which must give some grounds for optimism.
However this small recovery is from an all-time low in Feb 09, when movements (-25.6%) and passengers (-23.9%) showed their greatest decline on the previous year's figures.
Taking a longer view, the latest figures are well below the numbers reported for Feb 05 (-11.0%, -10.1%), so perhaps it would be premature to crack the champagne!

The 20% easy reduction kicks in at the end of this month, so pax figs will head due south again.
He commented on the airport could see further reductions if an agreement was not reached.
Hopefully with a new CEO due soon at easyJet the icy relationship between the two of them can defrost and start to love each other again.
In the mean time, I will enjoy the quieter more relaxing terminal!

Italian Charters
Scheduled to be a Boeing 767-300, two A321s, an A320 and a Boeing 737-800 - around 1,000 pax in and out. Should help the figures a little bit. Also regarding a quieter terminal personally I do not think it is going to make that much difference with Wizz, Monarch and Blue Air adding some extra capacity. I know it will not take up all the easyJet shortfall but every little helps as they say!

Another Hotel for Luton, might help to make prices at bit more keener....
A former flight simulator centre at Luton airport is to be converted into a new £6m hotel after planning permission was granted last week.
Developers Office Villages Ltd has drafted in Liverpool architects Falconer Chester Hall to design the 120-bedroom hotel, which will also incorporate 370sq m of adjoining commercial space.
The former warehouse will have new floors inserted around a central lightwell to improve its function as a hotel, while a bright contemporary exterior will mask all its former features.
Project manager Lee Bailey, said work was likely to start on the development in June now Luton Borough Council has approved the build.
“The development will take around 10 months, so we expect to be completed about this time next year,” he said. “ We are currently in talks with a management company for the hotel, which won’t be announced until we start work, but the hotel will definitely sit in the budget end of the market.”

This purpose built flight simulator building was the European HQ of Flight Safety Boeing and was a prestigious business to be associated with the airport when it opened only a few years ago. So why did they move away from Luton?
So the airport is to get another hotel. This will be in addition to the new Hilton hotel that will be built at the back of Luton Airport Parkway.
I guess the Ibis, which is full of Easyjet trainee flight crew will have to cut their rates if they get undercut by this cut price operator.

Wow thats a lot of hotels for the airport...
I don't know many airports with three hotels within spitting distance of the terminal!
Then if you add the new Hilton being built at Parkway Station and the Premier Travel Inn near the retail park, there is actually five hotels within about a mile of the terminal!
I remember the Holiday Inn Express had a big extension to their building within about a year of it opening, so I suppose their must be substantial demand. Hotel operators don't go building multi-million pound hotels om wimm!

And with Luton easyHotel near Luton station (10 min coach ride from the airport) with rooms for 20 pounds per night even the most price sensitive travelers are already cared for.

BA strike to benifit LTN....
Israeli airline El Al has stepped in to try to help out people travelling to Israel for Pesach as a result of the threatened British Airways cabin crew strike, run by the Unite union.
El Al has decided to run seven extra flights, between London Luton Airport and Tel Aviv between March 22 and March 27.
A British Airways strike is also planned for the following weekend, but BA will not give details of which flights have been cancelled until the beginning of next week.
A spokesman for El Al said on Wednesday: "El Al has answered the call from passengers to get to Israel for the Passover celebrations. The airline has added both extra flights and capacity to meet the demand following strike action by British Airways cabin crew and its cancellation of flights to Tel Aviv."
The spokesman said it was possible that some people would be transferred from BA but that most people would have to buy new tickets "and they are likely to be sold very quickly". A bigger aircraft , a Boeing 777 rather than a 767, will be deployed for El Al's regular Tuesday flight.

The Blue Air news has been on the cards for quite some time, as they have transferred their ops from STN to LTN, but the LTN website is a little slow at announcing the news!
Shame Blue Air have decided to discontinue the Thessalonka to London service, which they have operated to STN for a while. This seems to be stopping altogether...

BA Strike
Some other carriers booking upgraded/extra/one off flights as well to pick up demand if BA strike goes ahead, not all Luton regulars!
Luton could have 3 El Al's on some days.

B777 at luton
Quite right Pabely, BA have used B777s on charter to the England football team and I think the Arsenal team which went to Cardiff for a FA Cup Final. One of the aircraft used was the one that came to grief at Heathrow.
Regarding the BA dispute and El Al as they say every cloud has a silver lining!
