With Wizz giving up on Bratislava airport (I know they don't fly to Luton) it does link another country so good news for Slovakian customers, who might have hoped for a Wizz connection in the future.

Not surprised Wizzair or Danube Wings are looking to offer a Bratislava service to LTN.
Even though Ryanair don't have a base there, they have a good route network there feeding from many of their European bases, inclusing Stansted, Liverpool and Bristol...

From a passenger perspective I think the reduction in passengers is a good thing and makes the terminal far more pleasant and tolerable at peak times...
I travelled last summer and the airport was chaotic and terminal seemed to struggling with the number using it. But last week when used it was such an enjoyable and relaxing experience! Reminded me of the way LTN use to be!

Threads gone a bit quiet so heres something to think about.
Noticed the Easy CAG flight previously stated as stopping next year has transferred to STN from March.
Luton seems not be able to keep destinations to that part of Europe for long ,especially Italy--Windjet gone,Rome went as did Venice.
These should be routes that are popular with the public.
The other part of Europe that surprises me is southern Germany.
After Debonairs demise no other Airline has taken up FRA or MUC.
And why no scandinavian destinations?
Anybody in the know have the answers why

Cagliari Switches From LTN to STN
easyJet have announced a new daily Stansted to Cagliari service, seems like this is replacing the LTN service as this service starts the day after the LTN service ends at the end of March...

I assume easyJet are going to base an additional unit at Stansted to cover the Cagliari flight? My guess is - no!
The airline industry is in a cyclical decline, passenger figures are a statistic, the key is profit. if easyJet partially move out, it will only be a a result of slots at Gatwick becoming available.
If you think Luton is in mortal decline, you wait for the winter stats from the CAA covering all UK airports.
The art is to keep the profit, that is what easy and Abertis are doing?

Remember the good old days, when passing through an airport was a good experience? Then things went bad with the rise and rise of the low cost airlines, long traffic queues just to get to the drop off area, long queues to get airside, nowhere to sit, and just crowds everywhere.
Well for Luton anyway it has gone full circle. For passengers on the EL AL flights who are using Luton for the first time Luton must seem like a breath of fresh air compared to Heathrow.
Yes we all want to see Luton hitting 10 million passengers per year again but then we will all moan about Luton being a bad experience airport. For the passengers who are travelling today Luton it can only described as a pleasure.
Talking of good experiences I was in London on Monday and got to St Pancras just in time to catch the 16:30 East Midlands train to Nottingham. With the first stop being Luton Airport Parkway the train arrived on schedule at 16:50, just 20 minutes later.

Luton Airport has been nominated for the Best UK Airport category in the Business Travel Awards. The airport was recently evaluated by a panel of judges, including leading business travel journalists and top customers.
Luton Airport’s nomination reflects the upgrades that had been installed at the air terminal over the previous year. The airport is reviewed based on several criteria, such as value for money, quality of service, and range of offered services and products.
Currently, the airport’s modern car parking lot is located just a short hike away from the terminal gate. In addition to the enhanced parking facility, the mass transport interchange and the drop off zone at Luton Airport have been improved as well.
Luton is one of the biggest and busiest airports in the UK, after Heathrow and Gatwick airports. In 2008, over 10 million tourists travelled through Luton Airport, which serves as a main air travel hub for various destinations worldwide.
Employing more than 500 workers, the airport is a major base for low cost airlines. Budget carriers like Aer Arann, Blue Air, EasyJet, El Al, Flybe, Monarch, Ryanair, Thomson, Wind Jet and Wizz Air operate from Luton Airport. LUTON-6
Hoping some of you local Luton chaps could tell me what the traffic situation is now between MI and the airport.I know when the new road layout was first opened it was reported as pretty grim most mornings and the reason i am asking is i am flying out on the 07-20 Easyjet to Zurich in a few weeks and am travelling down from the north on the MI.Thanks for any info and help.

No jams now at any time of the day as passenger numbers are low. Allow 5 minutes from the M1 to the drop off area between 6am and 8am. There is a tail back to get off the motorway which peaks at around 9am.

For anybody interested one of the Thomson 737-800s will be rolled out of the Hangar 61 on Monday with xmas decals including the red nose ,smile and reindeer on winglets etc.
Its leaving for STN to fly children on two charity flights to Lapland then will be around the Uk airports over the xmas period.
Get your cameras out.
Staff at Thomson have all given their time in aid of the charity to organise it so a big thanks to all.

Airport Experience
thanks LTNman I had a similar experience last Saturday (the 28th) when flying back to Malaga after a unfortunately long and prolonged stay in the UK due to a sudden family bereavement. I left rainy Dunstable at 04.45 am and was sat down ordering a cup of tea in a restaurant airside at 0518am! I could not believe it, no queue at check in, could choose which isle of the security to go through! it was like flying some 25 years ago! but I must admit by 0615 it had got quite busy with a lot of East Europeans waiting for the Wizz flights. Although good for me and my partner I was talking to an IFS on the Monarch flight and they have cancelled numerous flights from several airports due to poor loads. Do hope everyone gets through a very difficult winter period and if passenger figures are only down some 8.5 per cent in October to me that is not too bad looking at some other airport statistics.

Regarding EZY's winter cutback of LTN based airframes, are any of the flights that were previously operated by these a/c now covered by a/c from other bases? Just wondered as a quick glance at the arrivals for Sunday night seemed to suggest a requirement for 16-17 aircraft. Or am I missing something?
Compared with previous recessions (I can remember 1974-1977, 1980-1982, 1989-1991) LTN has escaped relatively lightly so far. At least no major based carrier has gone bust yet, as did Court Line in 1974, and no major carrier has transferred most of their operations, as FR did to STN in the late 80's.
