Been no ILS at all through September on 26, being replaced along with 08 - see earlier in the thread around September time....

26 Now Cat 1, will be cat 3 after few weeks.
08 is fully cat 3 and has been all summer. 08 will be replaced once 26 is Cat 3.
LTNMAN. there are many issues with replacing two ILS systems. The timeframe that has been chosen is best for the airport. There has been excellent progress in replacing the ILS so far.

Wind Jet
It looks as though Windjet have decided not to transfer to London Gatwick after all and are stopping at Luton. After a break of several weeks at the end of the summer timetable services recommence to Forli in early December and run through into January on a twice weekly basis although a new Sunday service could be a possibility.
They have found out probably to their cost that most Italians and relations of Italians live in North London and the northern home counties i.e. Bedford, Peterborough etc.
As someone who remembers the regular charter flights operated by Britannia, British Midland, Altair, Mediterranean Express etc. to several cities in Italy from Luton up to the arrival of the low cost carriers you would have thought someone would have done their homework.
They have found out probably to their cost that most Italians and relations of Italians live in North London and the northern home counties i.e. Bedford, Peterborough etc.

In recent years I do tend to disagree and don't think there is that much of a demand for services to Italy from LTN...
We have seen Ryanair drop their Venice and Rome services, and Bergamo is now flying a greatly reduced timetable compared to the 2x daily service it use to operate.
Turin use to operate year round with easyJet and few years back this was reduced to a winter service only for the skiers.

Italian Routes From Luton
Sorry to disagree with you Giles but Ryanair are dropping the Bergamo service because easyJet have started a twice daily Milan Malpensa service. The main charter routes were to Milan, Rome, Palermo and Naples - you will find this is where most of the “UK/Italians“ have relations. Ryanair drops routes as you well know for a variety of reasons not only because they are not getting enough passengers.
At the moment you can fly to Rome, Milan and Palermo from Stansted. Turin is mainly a winter destination and not a visiting friends and relations area. i lived in Bedford for 20 years and I can asure you that their are many people of Italian descent who go back and forth on a regular basis to various parts of Italy as I am sure the Polish community in Bedford does the same. A bit of good news for Luton anyway with Wind Jet stopping.

Unless you know otherwise, it still looks like Windjet's intention to transfer to LGW from the start of the S10 schedule.

Windjet flights from LTN are due to finish on the 22 October and transfer to LGW. However, it seems the LGW flights for W09/10 have been withdrawn, until at least April 2010. Interestingly, between 6 Dec 09 & 10 Jan 10, Windjet will restart Luton-Forli flights to cover the Xmas & New Year period.

It is just what I have been hearing, the airline are said to be very happy with the service they get at Luton, so we will just have to wait and see.
On another topic, El Al are contemplating using larger aircraft on the Tel Aviv route - i.e. B747 and B777 when loads warrant!

Was getting my hair cut this evening and the barber is this friendly Moroccan guy, he was going on about how expensive the flights are for him to go home and see his family...
He was going on about how he will be pleased when flights to Morocco start from Luton to Tangiers and Casablanca where his family live in March next year... He was going on about this airline called Jet4you who will be operating them.
I never heard on them and just looked them up this evening and there is no mention of flights to Luton or any other UK airport, but they seem to be owned by the TUI group, and suppose if or when flights are launched to the UK. Luton could be a likely airport with Thomson based here.
Anyone else heard of them or starting flights to Luton?

Changes to how UK APD is calculated means Morocco falls into the lower zone from the end of this month! Same for Ukraine too (I think) as Wizz's flights from Luton to Kiev have gone well done in price.

easy charges
Seen the advert - a bit unfair I think. They say there charges have gone up 25 per cent of the last three years but from what starting point may I ask? Also as I have said before no other airline seems to be complaining about the passenger charges at the airport but I suppose you have to try and get a good a bargain as possible.

September Passenger Figures
Just been released - they show that 868,573 passengers passed through in September a drop of 10 per cent on the corresponding month last year. The rolling 12 month total is 9,296,716 down 9.5 per cent. Luton is still in 5th place in terms of overall passengers at UK airports keeping its nose in front of Birmingham by some 50,000 passengers at present.

It is a shame actually, was a very popular route from quite a few UK bases, particularily for FCA before the merger, I noticed EMA dont have it this year either. If you have to go to LGW which as you suggest may well be the case, the best bet is BA.

Airport Charges
It seems that easyJet are still very keen to cut a deal with the airport over the charges but there comes a time when the airport authorities have to say enough is enough i.e. Manchester with Ryanair, and say sorry this is what we can offer and that is it. The operator which runs an airport has to make money on its investment to reinvest on infrastructure and to pay a dividend to its shareholders. According to the Sunday papers the deal to sell Gatwick to a Canadian consortium is about to happen for around 1.6 billion pounds and they will want to see a return on their investment quite rightly. I wonder how long it will be when they say to the airlines sorry we have to put up our prices. As I think Gatwick is easy“s largest operational base what will they do then - maybe the deals offered by Stansted and Luton weren“t that bad after all. What do you think Buster being a bit quiet of late.

Belfast City Flights
Looks like it is a double edged sword!
As well as the flights being switched to Belfast City, the route is only going to be operated twice daily compared to the current timetable to Belfast Int that is still bookable as four flights a day in each direction.
Belfast Int is also owned by Abertis so it hurts the company at both ends of the route!
I have flown Belfast City is a great little airport and very convenient for the city centre... But if travelling elsewhere in the province, this isn't necessarily all that convenient and these flights operate during peak periods and traffic around the Belfast City Airport at these times and to get on the motorway is not good, with regular long queues.

Understand your points fully but the question has to be asked as to what improvements have been made recently to LTN.
And i use the word imrovements,the access road was government funded and there is a massive arguement going on between the council and Birse over a overspend of £10 mill on that project.
The new set down area was a joke.
The inside of the Terminal hasnt improved,still leaks from the roof,tiles cracked and not repaired
It appears that Albertis are just running the clock down until they can withdraw from the contract in a few years time and are trying to get as much out for as little investment now.
On a different note the old tui building(the one at the end of the old access road with concrete pillars-sorry dont know the building number)
was lined up for demolition to widen the taxiway link to enable the 787 dreamliner to gain access to the thomson hangar when they finally receive it.
Understand Thomson want it to be able to come straight in passed the Easy hangar to prevent turning.A section of that Hangar will have to go to enable that to happen.Interesting times ahead!!

Am surpised that Thomson dont do this more often with airlines in their Group fleet,ie scandinavian ,german etc.
