LUTON - 6
If 'true', my guess is that it won't start.
Of course it could be a press version of "Low-cost carrier easyJet has also announced plans to launch flights to Sofia from London's Gatwick airport this fall."

Agree with you LGS6753. Almost certainly a "journalistic mixup" and really relates to easy's announcement to start Sofia from LGW earlier this week. Besides that, Wizz already operate Sofia 4 x weekly from LTN, and that is to continue throughout the winter, so doubt they would compete.
Interesting to note that Wizz is to start Katowice flights from LGW, meaning it will serve the route from LGW, LTN & STN.

Silverjet to Denver ???
Have family in Colorado Springs and the only direct UK flight is BA's LHR to Denver.
An unfortunate monopoly, as BA make flying with them (not to mention the security staff at T4) a most undesireable experience fraught with problems.
Have heard a rumour that Silverjet from Luton may start a direct Denver next year although looking on their web site there is no mention of it and I wasn't impressed that they cannot even run 2 flights a day to Newark without anouncing a delay in starting to do so. Note from above this has given their shares something of a bashing
Is this an outfit to be trusted with ones travel plans ... and is there any substance in the rumour ??

The drop in Silverjet's share price was based on their announcement that they are dropping the Flyjet European charter business. The Daily Mail reported that wrongly, and I guess some City types misunderstood the implications, and marked the share price down.
IMHO it was the right thing to do. The European charter business is crowded and in turmoil with the four majors amalgamating down to two, and competition from carriers based elsewhere in the EU (like Malta, Spain etc) as well as the proliferation of low-cost-base Turkish airlines. Flyjet was always going to be a poor relation to Silverjet, and potentially divert management attention.
Silverjet's US services seem to have started as well as can be expected given that their original aircraft was (is) a bit of a shed, and caused problems due to unserviceability. Hopefully the next four (all ex-Britannia/Thomsonfly) are in better condition, and will permit the planned growth to happen.
I would be surprised to see Denver as an early destination. Silverjet are a niche player, and need to get established on major trunk routes where they can cream off premium traffic. NYC was obvious, the only rumour I've heard of a US destination is Chicago, although I would anticipate volumes being sufficient on SFO and LAX to accommodate Silverjet. Both of those would stretch aircraft utilisation to offer a daily service (c 20 hours flying per day).
But of course we'd love to see you flying from Luton....

Luton now equals low cost, both in terms of investment and facilities, but that is what its airline customers want.
Anyone asked the fare and airport fee paying passengers what they want?
Probably swift customs and immigration on arrival and less queuing prior to departure?
I would rather a £2 fee for this, than the new easyJet hold baggage fee!

I don't think anyone can 'turn it around' with the Council/ACDL impasse?
ACDL have the cash to invest, but will not commit unless the concession period is extended to recoup the massive capital investment over extended years.
LBC won't extend the concession as they might have to put it out to tender, then ACDL might not get the renewal?
It is like a roundabout spinning faster and faster. So who will be the first to fall off?

XL, Possibly a based aircraft for the winter?
Anyway, there will be loads of apron capacity once North Weald becomes another Farnborough
