Lufthansa summer 2011

The Frankfurt of course will have added capacity with the BMI A319/320's but Munich is in line for a seating capacity increase as well.

The booking engine shows that the aircraft in use from Monday 25/7 is
three daily 195's (weekday only, 2 daily 195 at the weekend). That is an increase of 30 pax per flight on two of the three services.

The current 195 is just the afternoon only but this switches to the morning
inbound in summer until 25/7.

Dusseldorf sees a second Sunday service added from 27/3 but the
morning FK100 seems to be reverting to Eurowings CR9 for summer.

Per the Manchester thread Lufthansa pax at BHX added 13% in 2010.
That was achieved with seating increases but no extra flights.

QR (@MAN!)

QR have announced double daily DOH from MAN from 1/6, rumour is that LGW has been canned as a result, MAN certainly is on the up again. Is this the end of the long running will they/won't they do DOH from BHX? Or a precursor to more UK growth?? If EK dont get another rotation in at GLA I reckon QR will be at EDI soon, can't see BHX coming online then. Time will tell, here's hoping......PS were EK double daily at MAN before they launched BHX or did that happen after?

A meaningful new route at BHX you are really having a laugh. A switch of carriers on routes is the best to hope for. The attraction of new business is dire, a few more passengers on existing routes seems to be all that can be shouted about in the press relases.

Re: QR (@MAN!)

From Qatar's press release, it appears they are indirectly quashing any notion of them going into BHX:

“I am pleased to say that from June 1, the extra flights will be introduced offering passengers from northern England and, indeed, the Midlands the opportunity to fly to Qatar and beyond.

Isnt it equally as likely that if there is a EK double daily ex GLA, then QR EDI will follow ?

I'm beginning to wonder if it would not be a good thing that FR dropped all their flights from BHX.......it's been nothing but bad news on the routes front since they arrived (i'm not blaming them in any way of course for BHXs lamentable lack of recent route development but pre FR things seemed well a lot more rosy or is that just me being nostalgic?). Then again who would fill the void, er no one......thats the worrying situation BHX is in......and now its rumoured that Mahan could go as they are switching ops from ATQ to DEL therefore a huge drop in demand for their flights from BHX is predicted.......happy days!!

FR/W5/Charter

FR

The Girona Monday went off-sale the day after the announcement by FR stating that the base was going to be reduced.

It was always going to be the Monday flight, as it was operated by a GRO based aircraft. I was hoping for summer the Tue/Th/Sa gap in schedules would be filled by Barcelona for summer but I suppose there is little point in having GRO/REU and BCN.

The last time I looked GRO on Mondays operates during April.

I am still amazed that there are still gaps in the BHX schedules from late March although to be fair BMI Baby don't operate their three aircraft on a full schedule to late May and similar with flybe. Not so with Monarch Schedule who actually operate more flights in April than May.

Mahan

Posted on another site and if it does happen then the best BHX can hope for is a reduction in services but I too fear for the service. I can't see pax flying to Tehran, then to Delhi and then a car/train/taxi to Amritsar.

IT traffic (not Kingfisher!!!)

At present there is a very healthy looking Travel Service schedule, mainly for Olympic and if these actually show up it should help stem the losses. However it all seems very ambitious and a similar things happened last year and the flights eventually disappeared.

Also if the extra Monarch aircraft as rumoured turns up then this would also provide a big capacity increase, alas that just seems to be a rumour.

I think the route development strategy consists of Kehoe typing out letters in support of the HS2 rail link on behalf of some credible West Midlands business leaders. I assume that's how he managed to get his signature on the one to the FT!

Dont worry.

You still have Hassan13 spreading his petitions about on other forums.
You will soon have flights to JFK on AA and DL, ATL on DL, ORD on AA, DOH on QR, MNL on PA and which ever other petition he decides to start!

Mind you, we may laugh but he seems to be doing more than BHX route development!

New Routes (or lack of them)

I think Hassan13 might actually BE the BHX route development department!! His petition wish list is worryingly similar to the pie in the sky ideas that they have about having flights direct flights to West Coast USA, China etc. Whilst focusing on these pathetic dolly daydreams (without yet even having got anywhere near started on the extension needed for the runway) BHX seems to have completely forgotten about the fact that most people simply want to fly direct to/from major cities and towns in Europe which is a feat getting increasingly more difficult as the years go by.......anyway I thought that BHX had employed some super duper route development agency to get new routes. Money well spent at a time of major cutbacks? What a joke

Handling

So swissport take the TCX contract.

The rumour that menzies are coming just won't go away. I would presume that they are just waiting to get a contract.
