BHX-Frankfurt three daily for Lufthansa is the rumour .
That is it as far as I know.
Rumour of Munich in winter and the Saturday Brussels is a BMIR 145.
No other routes rumoured at present.
Still not "official" although the handling agent have been advised
or so I believe.

Enough about the second city stuff!
Now, Glasgow's runway is 2650m long, 51m longer than BHX's and yet they can handle a 747. I'm not comparing the two.
Also, there are concerns that Etihad cannot be at BHX due to the fact it's too close to MAN and LHR, but they operate into LGW with no problems.
About AI, there have been discussions going on about a relaunch, and I would prefer more than 6 flights a week. If it was more profitable than the LHR-India route then it's stupid to worry about slot protection, as they have enough airlines already, and enough Air India flights. Seems the furthest you can get with a 777 from BHX is India.
Now PIA, they have a codeshare with Turkish coming up, and they would be expanding their UK routes. I would hope that expansion should be made on the BHX and LBA routes, as I think the MAN and LHR routes are large enough.

Of course Etihad can operate into LGW with no problems despite having LHR routes. The market/catchment is much larger to tap into (Qatar Airways and Emirates also do the same!).
For PK, BHX and LBA may be profitable but it may be that adding too much frequency would render the route into losses; may be limited to an extra flight a week.
For AI, you've got to pitch the route at the right frequency to begin with and then increase steadily. Perhaps part of because of what they did and so still flock to LHR. Have a 777 if you want but don't be too surprised at 3 weekly services to start off with but using the 777-200s.

Hassaan13,
Talking about GLA and B747's you're getting in to aicraft performance again which you know diddly squat about ..... at what TOW's do those B747's operate out of GLA?
I can recall circa 30 years ago, before EMA had it's runway extended, a DC10 or few operation (direct) EMA-JFK ..... now do you imagine for one minute those DC10's operated at MTOW and/or with a full payload?

747
Just for the 747 record.
Wardair flew direct from BHX to YYZ for several years, the aircraft often had full passenger loads, but as they were only using part of their range the fuel load was lite, even if full of cargo this usually bulks out before weight anway.
The PIA 747 when they opened the route to ISB had to stop at CPH due to weight issues.
During the days of the old Manchester strikes, B airtours operated BHX Orlando direct.

Eithad@LGW
Eithad @ Gatwick is not a great example to use!
Wasn't it dropped in 2007 in favour of more Heathrow flights?
As posted on the BMI Thread - BMIR 145 now bookable on Saturdays
this summer on SN2039/40.
Not an extra flight but a downgrade from the RJ85- downgrade in terms
of capacity of course, a bit more subjective if it is a downgrade aircraft wise.

Centre cities,
You're making me laugh, the MAN strikes were the reason behind the EMA-JFK operations, even LPL-LAX operations except those DC10 operations needed to route via PIK for a pretty obvious reason!
No prizes for guessing who I previously worked for ... 30 (ish) years ago

You couldn't make it up!
Due to a 'last minute change of the rules' by the Government, the grant which BHX and the Council hoped would complete the Finance package for the Runway Extension will not now be forthcoming.
Much more urgent requirements mean that the two requests submitted jointly by Birmingham & Solihull Councils will now be for the car maker JLR and the Football Association's National Football Centre at Burton on Trent.
JLR is owned by Tata which is the biggest company in India and Burton on Trent is 25 miles away from Birmingham.

BMI Frankfurt
As expected and after a prompt from another thread
Not quite the seat increase as expected (but still an
increase) for BHX as it is the A319 (MAN is A320 but
it does carry more pax).
Starts Sunday 27/03/2011 with LH959.
Times are as follows: -
Now daily so this is an increase with Saturday inbounds
more than doubling capacity.
LH959 06.55 DEP BHX 09.30 ARR FRA
LH954 12.45 DEP FRA 13.15 ARR BHX
LH955 13.50 DEP BHX 16.20 ARR FRA
LH956 17.30 DEP FRA 18.00 ARR BHX
LH957 18.40 DEP BHX 21.10 ARR FRA
LH958 22.25 DEP FRA 22.55 ARR BHX
LH952/3 09.10 - 09.50 Remains LH 735.
Although a tad repetitive for the crew unless as rumoured Munich
goes the same way next winter, but there are some decent turnaround
times in FRA with 50 minutes the shortest.
Will the 13.50 departure be the same crew back at 22.55?

I understand Thomson are considering launching flights to Pukhket when the 787's arrive. I wonder what the chances of BHX-HKT are - correct me if I'm wrong but I believe EK do quite well with passengers connecting onto Thailand out of both BHX and MAN.

Aviation Experience
The Aviation Experience shop at the airport has closed down.Shame lots of nice books and stuff, but never seen anyone buy anything, hence I guess that time has finally run out.How ironic all the cra**y shops there that you could find in the high street and the one niche shop closes.

I believe it's set to be completed in May. Will Ryanair, Flybe and Air France still stick to the Eurohub side and everything else at the old terminal or will everyone by everywhere? I was under the impression that eventually the old Eurohub would be knocked down and a new pier would be built in its place. The one terminal concept would allow Ryanair and Flybe to operate from what is currently Terminal 1 without too much hastle.
