India

S78

Yes I have been keeping an eye on the Armavia booking engine and was surprised to see it on sale but even more surprised that Amritsar has disappeared completed and the Delhi departs on Tuesday when the BHX arrives Thursday.

I suppose it will take them a while to sort things out but was surprised ATQ was removed completed as BHX has remained all through even if it was not bookable.

I have seen the original a.net post re Air India and it is from one of the more reliable members. Lets hope it is ATQ-DEL-BHX without a plane change.

If a new Air India service does come off I bet Hassan13 will be doing cart-wheels!

Lets hope this rumour turns out to be true.

GayFriendly:-

I'll second that - and not just the BHX rumour, ditto Manchester!

But then again AI is driven more by politics than economics so you never know.

It`s quite interesting that the info has come from both ends at the same time with details of flight times and specific aircraft types for MAN at least ( 2 different models to be used ) also CEO of Manchester has just specified India in name as one of the countries that they were in deep talks with.

I almost hesitate to mention this but there was something else in the Birmingham Mail article.
Mr Kehoe also said, and I quote, "Air India is keen to move its European Hub and we are in the mix to to pick that up".
Whistling in the dark or something more?

Air India is keen to move its European Hub
I genuinly dont understand what is going on with this one, as all flights are now direct from DEL.
Besides, there is no European hub to 'move' anymore, so god knows whats happening?!

Air India

wanna_be_there

Yes this comment is a surprise and not helped by various articles with alternate views. It was reported on the Dublin thread and on another forum that the new Delhi directs were shipping money and the European hub idea was back on.

I have not seen any direct quotes from Air India sources to back this up and some of these rumours were back in November and December when the direct Delhi flights had hardly started.

Another case of I believe it when I see it.

I hope the idea of the hub doesn't see the light of day, especially as reports are that Jet are considering altering their Brussels hub (in a negative way) although nothing has happened as yet.

ATNotts sums it up in my opinion but as Ian has said, at least this time stories have appeared from both the UK and India.

Aircraft availability is not a problem if you believe the Indian source as there are often three 77W's spare at Delhi.

Delhi - Melbourne by Air India is also back on apparently as well.

Taken off another forum, its seems AI at BHX is going to happen, 3 weekly:

AirIndia - Cargo Capacity#

(24 flights weekly – 21 to London & 3 to Birmingham)

I dont recall the ATQ-BHX-YYZ flights being 3 weekly, so cant be a left over from those days.

Good news is on its way to BHX it seems. (no manchester though )

TK/AnadoluJet/United

Well to try and counter all the doom non-route news at BHX here is something a bit more positive about existing routes. Based on conversations I had with reps from the above airlines at the Destinations Holiday Show today at the NEC:

TK: Introducing the 320 from end of March for all BHX flights this summer and daily service (quote) 'will be launched later this year'. I pointed out that I have flown this route a few times every time with low loads, he told me that they still get many pax from the West Mids flying from MAN and LHR......big advertising campaign starting next month to raise awareness of BHX route and connections, lets hope this does not mean its last chance saloon for BHX-IST!

AnadoluJet: Not sure if spelt right but North Cyprus Tourism stand were advertising flights to Ercan from BHX with this airline once a week starting June, not sure what aircraft type

United: Well, its CO for now but not much longer, rep said reviews of all regional UK flights being undertaken but BHX service is (quote) 'safe' and aircraft upgrade to 763 being 'considered'. Rep also said to hold onto anything CO branded (I myself have timetables, a set of Business First glasses and menu cards) and stick it on ebay next year to sell as name will have totally disappeared by then.......

Oh yes and found out that SATA Air Azores starting weekly flights from MAN in April to Ponta Delgada on 320, BHX was considered as well but sadly not for this year, MAN going great guns with route developments

Shame not to see a BHX stand at the show (which was very busy indeed) in lieu of any new routes shouldn't the airport be pushing what it has got in terms of destinations as well as advertising the terminal revamps and changes that have taken place??

This route has been running for 2-3 years now? Unless its now direct as it has run via LGW since it began?

AnadoluJet: Not sure if spelt right but North Cyprus Tourism stand were advertising flights to Ercan from BHX with this airline once a week starting June, not sure what aircraft type
They do a bit of flying for TK, and only have the B737 in their fleet.

When AI launched BHX in 2005:
"The new flight introduced by Air India will be operated with standardized timings on the routing Delhi-Amritsar-Birmingham-Toronto-Birmingham-Amritsar-Delhi with state-of-the-art, fly-by-wire Boeing 777-222 ER aircraft on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays"

AndaluJet is part of Turkish Airlines.
My guess is that one of the BHX-IST services will continue to Ercan (all flights to North Cyprus are via Turkey).

AnadoluJet don't serve IST IIRC. If there are BHX-IST-Ercan flights they would be on TK mainline probably not AnadoluJet. AnadoluJet are mainly focused on Ankara, and to a lesser extent SAW. Though I guess a Turkish coast resort (AYT/BOD/DLM/Izmir) would probably be the best stopover point?

Air India

Must admit the same link mentions LAX, which I believe stopped last
year.

UA

You would hope that a summer 763 would be viable and that rumour
has been circulating locally for a few weeks.

Monastir

Restarts tomorrow with Thomas Cook. The last time I looked the summer
flights were still bookable not like some per the Thomas Cook thread.

TK

Certainly can't complain at TK's patience although some have said
that marketing has been indifferent at times. Fares seem reasonable
and the onward choice of destinations is getting better all the time
but pax figures remain flat but ideal of yields though. I would have
thought the new Istanbul Bangladesh connections would help
although I believe there is a stop in Pakistan on the way on all
for 4 flights per week.

The 73W is a rare visitor on the flight now with mainly 320's turning up
although today it was the 319.

Unless things have changed flights to Northern (Turkish) Cyprus are illegal because it is an illegally occupied region.

Flights need to be via Turkey, perhaps IST or AYT, whereas one can connect with a 'domestic' service to N. Cyprus anyway, so, unless things have changed, advertising BHX to N. Cyprus would be hogwash advertising!

And as Cyprus is a country of the British Commonwealth, should BHX handling agent staff be seen to be supporting an illegal occupation of a country of the British Commonwealth? ... Think about it!

BHX has had seasonal flights to N. Cyprus for years - they route via AYT for reasons given by PF, this would just be a change of airline.

TK - the last time I checked one of their inbounds about 70% of pax were connecting from other flights - including a few from Bangladesh. I'd expect to see PAX originating from China on it soon.

Turkish PAX

OltonPete

Whilst waiting (interminably yet again!) for an arriving PAX from FRA to come through the baggage hall last Sunday I was struck by how many of the inbound TK PAX seemed to be Turkish. I hadn't realised there was such an apparent demand for Turks travelling to / from Birmingham.

By the way, why is BHX so slow at processing inbound PAX. Is it really acceptable that passengers arriving from outside the EEA should take 90 minutes plus to get land side. Where's the hold up? Baggage or the UK Border Agency?
