It's been up for some time now but what a great revamp! the video is excellent, highlights points of interest very well and fair play to them for pointing out the big name employers in Cork something which is sometimes forgotten.

I note the marketing team is eager in pointing out that routes from Cork to Budapest, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, London City, Madrid, New York and Prague are needed and the statistics provided for each route just shows how much work the marketing team has put into this, well done to them and I hope there hard works pays off.

Very well thought out wish list although I'd also include Vienna in it as loads were very good on Sky Europes Bratislava service as there is a fairly sizeable Slovak population in Munster. Vienna would be very marketable as a City break destination and would attract inward tourists. Prague and Budapest might struggle in that regard.

Aer Lingus update

Cork to Brussels to operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays for Winter 12/13 with times to be changed to evening departures ex-Cork/Brussels. Speculation also that the Cork-London/Gatwick route will be dropped towards the end of October and replaced with a 5th daily LHR service from March '13 depending on the availability of slots. Plans for 4 a/c at Cork from October have been shelved, I believe this is due to the Belfast base remaining unchanged from this Summer at 3 based units this obviously has to do with Aer Lingus taking up the slack from bmi's exit of BHD-LHR. Belfast plans are speculation at this point.

It would be nice to think Ryanair might up service to Gatwick, but I can't see it happening.

What if Aer Lingus don't get the slot at Heathrow? Do they retain Gatwick?

There are a very small number of slots freely available at Heathrow without having to indulge in trading. Mostly, they are not ones an airline would want (e.g. a late arrival and early departure that would cause overnighting and the need for 2 crews), but if I read them correctly, there is one available with an arrival into Heathrow just before 7pm and departure just before 8pm that could be worked with. Although, that would leave the aircraft back in Cork quite early, but late enough that it couldn't be used again that evening.

Have no idea I'm afraid. About LHR I think Aer Lingus are looking to get the same slot as they had the last time (LHR 1205-1325 ORK 1440-1555 LHR).

The website does look excellent. Great work.

Sad to see the LGW service may be gone. I have felt that it really needed to be a twice daily service, allowing for day returns. I know the early morning service into/out of LGW was not hugely popular, but on a regional ATR it might work? Potentially operating an early morning AT7 flight each morning and an evening A320 flight might work, but obviously EI feel the aircraft would be better used elsewhere. I imagine regional's growth will be slowed unless RE take on some extra aircraft soon.

At the airport I noticed that Subway has closed down. The loss of Starbucks (replacement with CCR) is also a blow, IMHO. Clearly it is a boon for HMS Host, who are charging Starbucks prices, but won't have the huge licensing fees. Is there a plan for the Subway unit?

1. "A different kind of hub", yeah we force the majority of our arriving passengers up 3 flights of stairs.

2. Sad news about ORK BCN if true.

DAA

some detail about cork, it lost €14 million in 2011. A rise on 2010?

and will the flight that operated Dublin-Cork-Florence be a regular charter flight operated by titian and what aircraft was it.

Titan to Florence was a once off Pilgrimage flight. There is no way that Cork can be pay for a terminal of that size with a throughput of just 2.4m per annum. They'd want to be over 3 million to Pay their way. Opening 24 7 is very convenient but can anyone make a business case for it?

It will be difficult for Cork to make money at passenger volumes of less than 3 million - I think it will also depend how aggressive the DAA would want to be in using Cork to compete with Shannon once it leaves the DAA group. Look at London, LGW has been very aggressively marketed and does seem to be hurting STN, but also LHR to a lesser extent. It will be interesting to see how the DAA will compete with SNN.

These days airlines want charges to be as low as possible - so airports need to be aggressive with ancillary revenue. In my opinion there is significant room for growth of Duty Free and retail spend at ORK. The food court is underused and should be airside to get people through security as soon as possible. While it is nice to be able to relax with friends/relatives before a flight, from the airports perspective it is a massive source of potential revenue. Manchester terminal 1 is a great example of airport retail, it is a bit of a labyrnth to get through, but the environment is nice and the products are really well merchandised. Dublin T2 is also better than ORK in this respect. Food options are limited and getting worse, both Starbucks and Subway are gone, the food court closes early, as does duty free. There is a lot more that could be done with the available space at ORK on the first floor, which was poorly designed and laid-out from day one. ORK needs to utilise that space, because in the current enviornment airlines do not want to pay their way.

I totally agree with Brian, the land side food court is a total White elephant as passengers generally make straight for the Search area in order to get airside as quickly as possible. The food court is mostly used by staff on tea and Coffee breaks and is almost deserted in the afternoon and evening.

The deliberate decision to discourage meeters and greeters to visit the airport by not including a viewing area has thrown away a considerable source of revenue. The old terminal was often packed with non passengers particularly at weekends and this considerably boosted ancillary revenue. Lowering the charges in the short term car park would also encourage people to spend. At present meeters wait in their cars near the terminal until the passenger phones to say they've retrieved their baggage.
