I totally agree with Brian, the land side food court is a total White elephant as passengers generally make straight for the Search area in order to get airside as quickly as possible. The food court is mostly used by staff on tea and Coffee breaks and is almost deserted in the afternoon and evening.
The deliberate decision to discourage meeters and greeters to visit the airport by not including a viewing area has thrown away a considerable source of revenue. The old terminal was often packed with non passengers particularly at weekends and this considerably boosted ancillary revenue. Lowering the charges in the short term car park would also encourage people to spend. At present meeters wait in their cars near the terminal until the passenger phones to say they've retrieved their baggage.
