@Jaq
we need RFID in boarding passes, so that when a chav is too busy buying duty free rather than board a big ole spotlight can be tracked onto him to single him out for security to bundle him on board. A bit Big Brotherish (ok a lot) but it means stress one pax rather than the entire load.

LCY
The bomb is actually nearer Bromley by Bow and is massive, 2000 lbs of explosive. Being defused tonight, they are closing some tube lines near it. As read in my free Evening Standard collected at the airport!
It also occurred to me that they could have altered their flight paths to avoid the exclusion zone.
LCY need to sort out their bus drivers as well! Have just arrived from Dublin and we were bussed to domestic arrivals and free to walk in without passports.. unfortunately the luggage went to the European arrivals bit.. because 'ze buss driver he make a mistake'.
But CityJet seem to be getting their act together, with more staff around (and the biscuits have improved as well).

FLYING PHILL. You seem to think you know so much about LCY OPS but...
Have you never notcied that DUB and JER never have passport control but collect their luggage from the international reclaim.

quote - I find this difficult to accept. Outbound aircraft from LCY do indeed normally pass over Stratford at 3,000 feet (which seems way beyond any connection with the round) but then inbound Heathrows pass over them at 4,000 feet and they seem to have been unaffected.
But even if it was closed, was it beyong the wit of all to do a non-standard departure turning left out of LCY. What happens when there is a thunderstorm over Stratford ?
yes I was thinking the same, why not just vector the a/c around the exclusion zone. Also werent they on 10 at the time? the 10 departure doesnt go even over the area ?? I dont think so away Saying that If the discovery was made near to rush hour it would have caused chaos with all the movements

TCOPs - relax! -the point I was making was that we were deposited in one place and our luggage went to the other arrivals hall.
the first person I approached said "don't blame me, its ground ops" and legged it.
We were finally led through a connecting door to find our luggage,,,

LCY Departures - 6th June
My office is in Canary Wharf, so I'm use to seeing the planes take-off or approach LCY on finals. Anyway, this afternoon all the deparures from 28 were taking a much longer straight out deparure from LCY before they commenced their righthand turn. I presume this has to do with the exclusion zone over the bomb find @ stratford, but can somebody confirm this? From my view, most aircraft seemed to start their turn about half way between Canary Wharf and the city.

All LCY departures from 28 were climbed straight ahead to 2000ft and were then vectored around the TRA, which was clearly marked on our radar screens, and was active up to 7000ft. Heathrow inbound traffic was also being vectored around the TRA. Some LCY aircraft were given a left turn out when clear of Canary Wharf, but this was on a tactical basis depending on the traffic situation at the time, particularly the increased activity at Biggin Hill in connection with the air display this weekend. Thames Radar workload was very high on occasions, hence the reduced in bound flow rates.

I live in wapping, which is in the approach and departure path of City. Yesterday's departures were definately different, and the outbound flights did not take their right turn until over wapping.
Too mean to buy a long personal title
From my office near Blackfriars/St Paul's I was getting a view of a fair number of LCY outbounds yesterday, turning right just before reaching me. An unusual sight.

frankdjs and globaliser - I tried to explain the reasons for the unusual departures in my reply above! The position of the TRA meant that outbounds had to climb straight ahead to around 4nm West of LCY before they could be vectored clear of the TRA.

I saw one of the left hand turn outs... wondered where it was going! Im so used to the SID was quite suprised to see a 146 heading south over Deptford thought it was a missed approach at first! Thames radar do a great job (I sometimes listen in!) Keep up the good work

Suppose it's time to bump the Fun Day on 5 July.
For those who have watched Dennis Kenyon's amazing helicopter display here in past years, I have to record that Dennis had a little accident last week with his routine
http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=331128
and the good news is that Dennis is OK but I fear we will not see him this year - certainly not in the aircraft he was flying at the time ! Worth looking at the YouTube in the link which shows the ground impact.
I see that one of the sponsors of the Fun Day is Airbus. Maybe this raises the likelihood that an A318 may come in for the day.

I was slightly dubious about the DC-6 report but apparently it's true. And it's not just an overflight, apparently it's landing.

"The DC-6, will land at London City Airport as part of its European air show circuit for 2008."
Well that should be an interesting sight. I'll definitely be under the Connaught bridge for the departure.
Also a shame to see this page, which previously had a couple of paragraphs on Dennis Kenyon's display, has had to withdraw them. Good on you anyway Dennis, your previous years displays were fab.

From WHBM's link above, describing the DC-6:
Had no-one told them the war was over?
(Sorry - it's been a long day!)
...a piston-powered aircraft that was built sixty years ago for World War II.
(Sorry - it's been a long day!)

Over by 13 years actually (this DC6 was built in 1958). So not 60 years old either.
Hey ho, if the organisers are going to organise a Six to land nearly at the bottom of my garden I'll allow them a little latitude
